About this property

200+ private wooded acres to explore onsite, with DirecTV, WiFi, & Pet Friendly

Centrally located for all the Hocking Hills parks or enjoy exploring our private acreage for year-round nature loving . . .this is a great location for all the activities you want to enjoy.

We are just one mile south of Route 56 on State Route 93 and here, you’ll find a convenient setting to explore, sited on over 200 acres of land — in a naturally rough and hilly setting and undeveloped since 1978. If you want to explore our acreage, note that the path up the large hill behind the home is NOT paved and can have deep crevices, wear hiking boots or sturdy shoes. There may be high grass so prepare for that and dress accordingly. During spring and summer the natural brush/grass and wet weather cause quick growth and mowing does occur on a semi-regular rotation, however, it is a "rough" path. Feel free to explore and get lost in nature while there.

The land offers a natural and wooded setting with 2 lakes/ponds (created from strip mining prior to our ownership) along with high hills and the terrain to attract lots of wildlife. Deer, turkeys, coyotes, foxes, rabbits, frogs, snakes, many birds, and pheasants have all been spotted on our property.

For a more maintained path hiking experience, there are several nearby Ohio Department of Natural Resources (Lake Hope, Tar Hollow, and Lake Logan) parks with fishing available are located within easy driving distance mostly about 15-30 minutes by car from our homes. If you prefer excursions in the public parks, we are just a short drive to Lakes Logan, Alma, and Hope along with convenient access to many others including John Glenn Astronomy Park and Wayne National Forest. Public swimming is available at a few of the parks and at the Logan Municipal Pool. No swimming, fishing, or hunting is available on our property.

A 3-bedroom, 2.5 bath home is fully furnished and is located convenient to Old Man's Cave, John Glenn Astronomy Park, Ash Cave, Lakes Hope, Logan, and Alma, and Wayne National Forest.

Most of the acreage is behind the home which sits on St. Rt. 93 just one mile from Route 56. The home is located conveniently off the highway, please remember that retirees built this so it is not "in the woods", our acreage and woods to explore and enjoy are all behind the home.

No smoking (of any kind) inside the home. If you choose to smoke outside of the home, please remember to be sure the ashes are extinguished and properly dispose of ALL debris.

Dogs are permitted with an additional fee and prior arrangement. You will be responsible for pick up and removal of animal waste from the area around the home. The pet fee is per dog and is not refundable. There is a dog limit of 2 (two) total. If your animal is a service animal as defined by the ADA, we will need documentation provided to waive the pet fee.

This home provides:

Please bring your own paper towels and ICE (we do not provide ice trays).
• Some of the small electrics include: Crockpot® slow cooker, ice-cream maker (bring rock salt), toaster, handheld mixer, 4-cup electric water pot, one-cup coffee drip pot, 10-cup drip coffee maker and 10-cup percolator (usually plenty of coffee liners are there) [no Keurig®].
• We do provide kitchen dish soap and kitchen towels (no dishwasher). You’ll be responsible for washing and drying by hand and putting away.
• Bed linens, towels, & bathroom tissue is included - bring your own toiletries (and paper towels, if you need those). One bath towel and washcloth per guest/stay (found in bedrooms) and hand towels in the bathrooms.

The adjacent property is owned by members of our family, it has a cabin in the woods that is also a short-term rental. The home you are renting is where the map we provide of the rough hiking path begins for both rentals. The cabin home rents to groups of up to 6 people.

The total guest limit on both properties at any one time is a maximum of 18 people over the 200+ acres. Please be aware and practice proper physical distancing.

Please ask if you have questions BEFORE you book, we are happy to answer your inquiries.

We do NOT permit hunting on our land. We do NOT allow group events, bachelor, or bachelorette parties at our homes. We do NOT have a hot tub. The home IS close to the road, the acreage is behind the house, please view the photos for reference.

Great place

Close to nearby attractions like the falls and trails of Hocking hills State Park. Outside is a little dated, inside is beautiful reminds me of a grandparent's house. Only complaint was we had to go out an buy a new skillet to cook breakfast in. The ones provided were a little rough. Otherwise we had a great time, cooked home cooked meals pretty much all weekend long

Lovely spot!

This house was perfect for our annual family gathering. It's only a short drive from many of the natural sights in the Hocking Hills area, and we enjoyed the open layout of the first floor while preparing meals together. Both the front porch and the fire pit were great for hanging out in the evenings.

Hidden Gem near Hocking Hills

We planned a girls trip to explore Hocking Hills and this house was perfect for hosting us all. The kitchen is AMAZING to cook in, although, I will say the stove was a tab bit too advanced for me (100% operater error lol). There was plenty of seating for all of us and the kitchen counter made it so easy to host dinners. The house has everything you could possibly need. Some things we found super helpful were crockpots, storage containers, cooking spices, tons of plates and cooking utensils. The house was super clean for the most part. We did have to rewash a few utensils we pulled out of the drawer, and the coffee maker had moldy grounds in it, but it wasn’t a huge deal. The host, Mary, was so pleasant to work with and was extremely responsive and helpful anytime I had a question. The yard was beautiful and a blast to explore. I couldn’t recommend this Vrbo enough! We will defintely book here again next time we travel to the area. Thanks for everything!

Family Trip to Hocking Hills

This place had plenty of room for 3 generations to stay close to Hocking Hills park. The rooms were comfy and roomy enough for us to fit parents and 2 kids in one room. The house was close enough to get to Hocking quickly and even had some trails and a little pond for evening hikes. We would definitely stay here again

About the host

Host profile image
We are family owned and built.

Our dad and mom had a vision to retire to the country after the last of their 13 children finished high school, with that in mind, they (along with about half of the thirteen) purchased approximately 218 acres of land in northern Vinton County in 1978 and began building their retirement home in 1984.

When completed in the spring of 1986, they moved to their “home in the country” and started a journey that ran 25 years and created many happy memories. With the passing of both parents in 2010 and 2011 – the remaining 12 of us decided to embark on a new path with the same home.

Why they chose this property

The home our parents (and a few sons and friends) built with their own hands through a lot of creative ingenuity, the love mom and dad had for the land brought an idea to share it with other nature seekers. Visitors and friends include those who might enjoy time spent bird watching (like our mom) from the large picture windows salvaged from a restaurant, exploring the woods behind the house (like dad who made it up the steep hill at the age of 88), spending time in a quiet setting up in the woods, and discovering the deer and wildlife on the land. The house is comfortably furnished with all amenities for a tranquil stay in the country.

WiFi internet service is available (max speed through ViaSat is 50 Mbps) and for the most part, you'll need to use WiFi calling if you want to use your mobile phone. We do have a VoIP phone available for your use because cell service without the WiFi is SPOTTY. If you want, you will be able to truly disconnect and enjoy nature in the woods behind the home.

What makes this property unique

We do offer the ability to hike our land, keep in mind, it is not a public park and is not maintained as such. Please bring tick spray or use clothing that is tick repellant treated and/or check yourselves for ticks if you hike the woods.

Please note, both of our home's guests may be hiking the property, however, on 200+ acres it should not be a problem to physically distance.

We do not permit guest hunting on our property. We are not a barrier-free/physical handicap accessible home. We do NOT have a hot tub.
