Fantastic Pet Friendly Retreat

Welcoming from the very beginning the hosts couldn’t go out of their way to make us feel more welcome. Property had everything required and the enclosed garden was thoroughly enjoyed by our schnauzer. Hi-Spec hot tub with a great view was looked forward to at the close of each day of our stay. Nearby dog walks through Galloway Forest (Blackcraig car park <5 min drive) are all well marked/gravelled so accessible in all weathers. The entire experience couldn’t have been better and I can’t recommend this any higher!

We enjoyed a relaxed holiday in this lovely cottage.

We enjoyed a relaxed holiday in this lovely cottage. The hot tub was a delight and, as with other things, maintained to the highest standards. The location and detached status suited us and our dog really well as did the location well away from any road. The closeness to Newton Stewart and to various walks was also a great asset. We would have no hesitation in recommending The Dairy House to others Paul, Michele and Digby dog!

Perfect family break

Fantastic property, gorgeous conversion with a lovely big garden and hot tub. This was the perfect place for our family break. Some really nice extra touches left by lovely host Isobel, who was super helpful. The house was so cosy and comfy for a winter break with the hot tub as an extra treat. My little one loved being able to see the cows and there’s loads to do in the area when you venture out! We will definitely be back.

Sitting room was dead cosy with the stove, dining room very comfortable, kitchen well equipped and bedroom had the most enormous king size bed. All in all, very pleased with the cottage for our stay.

Beautiful cottage with attractive and tasteful decor. Well equipped kitchen and good supplies of extras . Owners very friendly and helpful. The hot tub was delightful, always available and on a private patio in the secluded garden. Very peaceful location away from roads but well placed for exploring Southwest Scotland. We would recommend to anyone.

We stayed at the Dairy house September and must say it was the best cottage we have booked for many years, The owners George and Isabel Could not be more welcoming and helpful for local knowledge, The cottage has all the amenities you could need on holiday, The hot tub is private and very well maintained, The rear garden is large enough to exercise the dog, Lots of local walking and shopping, I would not hesitate to recommend the Dairy house.

Having booked cottage holidays in recent years, we have never had such a warm welcome as we did from

Having booked cottage holidays in recent years, we have never had such a warm welcome as we did from Isobel and George. Before we arrived we were contacted to ensure we knew how to find the cottage which was a first for us. On arrival we were shown around the cottage by George who was welcoming and friendly. The cottage has been beautifully renovated and has every comfort you could think of. The bedrooms are spacious and extremely comfortable. The bathrooms are excellently fitted. The kitchen has everything you could need with a dishwasher and washing machine neatly behind a cupboard door to reduce the noise impact. There is a very comfortable lounge with enough TV channels to keep two children occupied. The garden is fantastic. Enough space for the kids to run around, and safe enough for the dog. The hot tub was a huge hit with everyone. Both Isobel and George were extremely friendly and informative about the area, and although we did need it, we knew they would be there to help with any thing. Thank you so much both of you. Probably the best cottage we have ever stayed in.

Fabulous well equipped cottage.

Fabulous well equipped cottage. Great location. The hot tub is amazing. The garden overlooks the field with belted Galloway cows and sheep, just so tranquil. We sat there watching the swifts dart about. The garden is completely safe and secure which is a bonus if you have a dog. Isobel and George so welcoming. Nothing is a bother. You know that they are there if you need them but they’re not intrusive. Very enjoyable.

We had a fantastic time in The Dairy House. It is clean, bright and welcoming and the hot tub was a highlight, especially after a day on bikes or on foot. It was so peaceful on the farm and Isobel and George are a lovely friendly couple.

The Dairy House was perfect for our relaxing holiday with the dog.

The Dairy House was perfect for our relaxing holiday with the dog. The well tended garden is very private and fully enclosed. The hot tub was an added bonus for us even though the weather wasn't too kind. The stairs up to the bedrooms are quite steep which may be a problem for some people but were fine for us. The accommodation is lovingly and tastefully decorated and furnished and we loved it all. Everything is new and very clean. The owners are delightful and so welcoming. We have no hesitation in recommended this area for lovely walks and beaches nearby and for the Dairy House for the comfort of a home from home in beautiful surroundings. Thank you.

We have been house-hunting in Dumfries and Galloway for a year or so and this was the fifth "cottage

We have been house-hunting in Dumfries and Galloway for a year or so and this was the fifth "cottage" we'd stayed in there, and definitely one of the best. Given that it is on a working farm, the owners, George and Isobel, were very welcoming and happy to pass the time of day despite being knee deep in lambs 24 hours a day while we were there. You couldn't get any closer to the A75, which means you can easily find it and it's easy to get away from, and in D & G you soon realise how important that can be if you live at the other end of the country. The cottage is spacious and well appointed. Unlike a lot of holiday rents which feature furniture cast-off or chosen for cheapness rather than with the comfort of guests in mind, the seating, beds and other furniture were excellent in both comfort and function. We were always comfortable with recliners and efficient heating - a must in April despite our being very lucky with the weather with the sun shining throughout our stay. The house was spotless, no mean feat on a farm, though you would be well advised to keep the bathroom window closed or dust and plant detritus quickly accumulates on the window sill. Happily, the house is big and airy so there's no problems in ventilating the bathroom by leaving the door open when not in use. A big plus point was that the cottage has its own WiFi hub. Others we've stayed at are shared with the owners in the main house and often reminiscent of early 1990s dial-up. On the downside, mobile coverage (at least for ID) was patchy at best, but you don't go to stay in the country to make lots of phone calls. The kitchen was well equipped and the appliances all did what they were supposed to, again, not always the case elsewhere. The property is an old house and so the layout is somewhat idiosyncratic, but workable. Packing and unpacking the dishwasher in the pantry rather than the kitchen was a bit tedious, given that dishwashers are supposed to make life easier, but still better than washing up! The stairs are steep and best tackled with crampons while roped to the bannisters. One of us had a knee replacement recently and could not have managed them a couple of weeks previously, so if you have any doubts about climbing stairs then this isn't the place for you. As we were among the first guests to rent the cottage, there were a few things that we spoke to the owners about, but these weren't things that were wrong, rather things that would make life easier, and our suggestions were positively received. Our overall rating reflects that it wasn't quite perfect, but nowhere is. Value for Money for us wasn't an issue as such because the house is near where we needed to be, but as there were only two of us, it was quite expensive, though not so for a party of four. Neither of us sees the point of having a bath in the garden so we never tried the hot tub :-)
