Provencal Style Villa with pool in rural Provence. 5 minutes walk to the village

Les Rays is within walking distance of the medieval hilltop village of Callas with its shops, twice weekly street market, bars and restaurants.

Incredible Stay
I had a wonderful stay at this place with my family this summer. The views are stunning, especially from the pool. It’s quite a climb up the steps but worth it! One of our favourite aspects was the fact you can easily stroll to the village from the house to buy fresh croissants from the local boulangerie or for an late afternoon glass of wine in the village square. We tried all 4 restaurants which were very good. The house itself was clean and is a mix of Provençale and contemporary styles. The location was great for us as we visited some of the lovely villages in the area as well as Ste Maxime and Cannes. The owners, who were very helpful, suggested that we took the boat to St Tropez to avoid the traffic. I would definitely recommend this villa to anyone who wants to experience authentic rural Provence as well as have easy access to the Cote D’Azur without the expense or the crowds.

A thoroughly enjoyable vacation in a wonderful property.
Les Rays has rustic charm, local character and is set in a wonderful location with fantastic views. Whilst the small village feel of Callas, with a few small shops, restaurants, boulangerie, tabac and a Saturday market in the village square, just a 10-15 minute enjoyable stroll down from the property, although a car is highly recommended due to the hillside location and terrain, which then opens up some beautiful villages in this idyllic area of Provence. The property does have quite a steep drive but then reveals this wonderful property. On a large landscaped plot surrounded by its own selection of olive groves and grape vines, there sits this lovely house, mostly on the ground floor, but leading to a first floor master bedroom with dedicated en-suite bathroom and own private balcony. Breakfast from there provides excellent views of the whole region, with the tolling of the bells across from the village church. There is a large lounge and dining area and well appointed kitchen, but for our stay we enjoyed our evenings at the outside covered family dining area through the large glazed double doors off the lounge. Behind the property rises via a series of steps to the elevated large swimming pool, with a dining and sunbathing paved area surrounding the pool, and changing / toilet facilities. The property is ideal for a family or group, with 4 good sized bedrooms and the 2 bathrooms, and a separate WC. Families with Infants, pushchairs, or perhaps elderly or disabled wheelchair dependant members should review the collection of photos for suitability, as the pool area would be difficult to access. This is a perfect way to see Provence, and to feel at peace with the region. Character, charm and a wonderful vacation with wonderful friends. We shall be sure to return again.

Kitchen and bathrooms need to get renovated. Dangerous drive way to the house.
The house is located on a beautiful spot in the Provence. When we arrived the drive way is a steep ramp situated right in the turn of the road. If you don’t pay attention, your car can get damaged. The kitchen and the bathrooms need to be renovated. It is a large house with plenty of space. Also the house was clean. But the AC did not work. And ants were everywhere, outside and inside the house. When we had breakfast outside, ants were on the table and on the wooden beams above you. I did not like this at all! There are 35 steps to the swimming pool which the website did not mention. The garden needs work, especially beside the stairs and at the petanque area. We did like the village of Callas but the house did not meet our expectations and the price is not worth paying.

Gorgeous villa in a lovely village
Les Rays is a gorgeous villa with everything you could possibly want for a relaxing stay. As we were travelling around for a few weeks, we were looking forward to a relaxing week and that is exactly what we got. The house, pool and grounds are obviously all really well looked after and we enjoyed all it's different elements - sitting by the pool, breakfast on the balcony, lunch under the olive tree and fantastic meals on the terrace. Also, Callas is lovely and has all you need - bakery, little supermarket, a bar where we watched the football with the locals and 4 restaurants. We managed 3 and they were all lovely! Everything was brilliant and we would love to return one day.

Lovely property with excellent pool. Owners and property manager were very helpful
The accommodation was very clean, comfortable and tidy. Pool excellent size and with handy access to a fridge/ freezer at the pool house. Lovely scenery and very restful place to stay. We tried two of the local restaurants which didn't disappoint. Temperatures were very high at times so a bit hot at night although the fans did help. Good communication with the owner, Mike, and with Fiona, the property manager.

Lovely property and pool
Enjoyed our stay in this lovely villa with beautiful views over Callas and the surrounding countryside. The property was well furnished although we ate all our meals on the terrace at the front of the house which offered shade. The pool area was excellent although it did stand some twenty steps above the property. This however didn't cause us any difficulties. The village had several good restuarants. The location meant we could reach Cannes, Nice, St Tropez within 75 minutes or driving into the foot of the southern Alps. We all enjoyed our stay and would definitely consider coming back.

Pretty villa with gorgeous pool
Very clean and pretty villa. Fabulous pool only draw back is the long climb up fine for us younger ones but a struggle for my mother at 77. The owners of the villa were very helpful and friendly and prompt at returning damage deposit. Great restaurant in village called Hotel de France and the village doctor was very helpful when my son came down with chicken pox. I would recommend this villa to other people.

amazing villa
Les Rays truly is a beautiful villa in a stunning location. Inside there are large spacious rooms, which are all furnished to a high standard. The property was lovely and clean and well maintained. My husband and I stayed with my daughter and boyfriend, we had the lovely bedroom on the first floor which had a verandah with the most stunning view. I found it difficult to drag myself away from here each morning whilst enjoying my breakfast overlooking the village and church. My daughter had the double on the ground floor which was just as lovely with double doors opening out onto patio area. The villa was large enough for us all to have our own space and privacy. Outside the pool area was stunning, more glorious views. Plenty of sun beds for everyone, a very well equipped area and great pool! I also found it difficult to drag myself away from here, but glad I did,as the area is so beautiful. A must is the Gorge du Verdon, the many hill top villages, and a visit to the fabulous beaches. After a days sightseeing it was great to come back for a swim before going out to dinner. We did'nt travel far in the evenings as we really enjoyed the hotel in the village. The food was excellent, well presented and good service. Italian was also good. We also enjoyed shopping locally for produce, cooking for ourselves and then relaxing in the garden at Les Rays, followed by a game of boules, what could be better especially after a few glasses of wine!. I would recommend a stay at Les Rays, and am looking forward to our return.

Fantastic villa located in a lovely part of France
We stayed for one week and we cannot wait to go again. When we arrived we were surprised how spacious and homely the villa was and it has amazing views. It is wonderfully located about 5- 10 minutes walk from the centre of Callas which is a typical Provencal village. We really enjoyed walking there every morning to buys our bread and croissants for breakfast. There are also some very good restaurants in Callas. The pool is lovely and we even swam every day in May. We ate in the garden and it is wonderfully quiet and tranquil. The region is full of breathtaking views and there is loads to see and do. We went to the Gorge du Verdon (Europe's Grand Canyon) and the beach at Saint Raphael and Juan les Pins.. We had a really brill holiday and hope to return The Hucks Family

Idyllic location with spectacular views
Utterly charming property with wonderful views across the landscape. The property has a tasteful appearance, and matched by comfortable furnishings, and very well appointed. The swimming pool terrace is a superb elevated location from which to appreciate the beautiful scenery of the surrounding villages. The rooms are all a good size as are the unspoilt and private gardens, which are well stocked and quite attractive. We had a superb vacation with friends at Les Rays, and we would certainly return again in the future. The local villages are blessed with an array of shops selling good quality local produce, as well as a selection of restaurants, bars, cafes etc and we would recommend some of the local vineyards for excellent Rose du Provence wines. Highly recommended,

Fabulous
the villa:: The villa is stunning. The views are incredible. I stayed in the double room on the ground floor, next to the bathroom. A lovely large room, with French doors onto the terrace, a great place to watch the sunsets. Towels are good quality from John Lewis ! The upstairs bedroom has a lovely bathroom and stunning views from teh private balcony. Just beautiful. Taking breakfast under the olive tree was a delight. The pool is a very good size and very deep. It was very well maintained with a cover. The surrounding pool area is very spacious, with substantial sunbeds and a great barbecue spot. The gardens are beautiful, there's a petanque area, endless olive trees and lovely flower beds in front of the villa. The kitchen is well equipped, although we ate most of the time, and a laundry room. What to do: The drive to Gorge du Verdun is lovely. Well worth he drive over, make sure you stop and take photos. The town of Callas, which is a few minutes walk down the main road (take a torch at night ) has a great market on Saturdays, excellent local fresh produce. The bakery does very good breakfast goods ( croissant etc). The restaurants were very good. The Italian is very sweet inside. Bargemon up the road is a delightful town, with a very good choice of restaurants, Beckham has a villa there apparently. The coast offers a selection of well known resorts, we liked St Maxim, along from St Tropez. Try 'Barbarac' in St Tropez for the best icecream. . A lovely villa in a beautiful part of France. Very relaxing. A great find.

Great Holiday Villa!
I had a fantastic time at this place, super holiday. The views were incredible, the village of callas was lovely, plenty of places to visit such as Gorges du Verdon and St. Tropez which are both nearby. I would love to go again and would recommend it to anyone.

Having spent several family holidays driving through France to Provence and the Cote d'Azur, Susan studied French at University, worked in St Tropez as a student and lived in Paris for 2 years. Now, having stayed in the area on holidays, we love our house in Callas all share Susan's passion for the Provence-Cote d'Azur region.

Why they chose this property

We bought the house in Callas as we love the unspoilt Var area of rural Provence and the fact that you can walk to the village of Callas with its shops, restaurants and twice weekly market. We can enjoy the other hilltop villages such as Bargemon and Fayence but we are also close to the beaches and it is an easy drive to Nice airport. We looked at several properties but Les Rays stood out from the rest because of the breathtaking view from the pool terrace and the upstairs roof terrace and that the house is so light and airy and completely private. Matthew loved the size of the pool and the boules area.

What makes this property unique

A typical day at Les Rays. Coffee on the roof terrace of the 1st floor bedroom listening to the church bells. Walk down to the village to buy fresh croissants and baguettes for breakfast on the terrace. If it is market day (Tues or Sat), have coffee at the Hotel de France with warm pastries from the boulangerie. The stalls sell local produce and there are some great gift ideas. The rest of the day you have a choice of the pool with its all day sunshine, visiting the area by car (a must - The Gorges de Verdon), a trip to the Cote d'Azur, picnics, walking, lunch in one of the hilltop villages with a glass of chilled rose de Provence. Visit the Office de Tourisme in Callas - there are activities to suit all tastes and ages. In the winter, you can ski in Grenoliers which is around 50 minutes drive. Dinner in Callas, Claviers or Bargemon - a huge choice of restaurants or a BBQ at the house but stock up with the local wine from one of the numerous vineyards beforehand! Digestive on the roof terrace to take in the view of the Gorges de Pennafort one more time before bed.
