Awesome unique home right on the lake with huge yard, hot tub near Sunday river

Welcome to one of the most unique homes in the state of Maine!

Got a smaller group? Talk to us and see if we can come up with a fair price for your group. This only applies in the off season.

Holiday weekends are generally a 3 night stay requirement. Peak Summer we rent Friday to Friday and renters love it because when you arrive you get a whole weekend AND you avoid the awful Saturday Summer traffic.

This unique and historic lakefront home nestled in the foothills of the White mountains is one of very few in the area able to accommodate large groups under one roof. Owned by a real train engineer, the house has lots of railroad nostalgia sure to thrill all. We boast the largest yard on the lake, great for weddings and summer fun. A Hot tub, horseshoe pit, fire pit, a swing set and sandbox for the kids, a boathouse and a store/restaurant right down the street are amenities hard to find elsewhere.
The house faces to the west which means you will be on the sunny side of the lake, lots of sun and great sunsets. Our huge deck and screened porch afford great views. There are 2 living rooms, each has a cable TV. There is a Pool table, foosball, fireplace, giant, fully equipped kitchen/dining room with woodstove, 2 fridges, 3 freezers, 2 ovens and 9 burners. We do have a nice relaxing hot tub. A separate hot tub fee will apply. Pets are welcome, a pet fee will apply.

The owner being a railroad engineer has put his railroad touch to the home inside and out. Your kids will love the theme.
The home affords large groups to spread out or congregate in our massive main living room.

Close to mountains, lots of space

Overall good stay. Plenty of room and features. Beds are more quantity than quality. Some stuff in the kitchen was put away dirty, though I'm sure that's hard to catch. Biggest thing I would say is it really should be made clear that the hot tub requires an extra fee, and both that and the pet fee are paid outside VRBO. It also wasn't communicated until just before arrival.

Great location, awesome house!!

What a blast!! This house is really awesome. It looked amazing on here, but it doesn't even touch what it's like in person. We had a group of 16 of us, and it was perfect. Everyone had plenty of space, and we were cramped at all. The kitchen has two glass top stoves which worked out great as well. And within a minute drive there is a store/gas station that sells pizza, subs, beer, snacks, etc. which was perfect. The drive to Sunday River was not bad at all. We definitely plan on coming back here. House is great for big groups or families.

We're already looking forward to next year!!

Our group had a great time at this house, for the second year in a row. Everyone had so much fun that we are already in the process of planning a summer trip and going back semi annually instead of just in the winter. The place is well maintained, and very clean upon arrival. There were 17 of us, and we all picked beds, with plenty of sleeping space remaining. There is so much space in the house as well. The kitchen is huge, with plenty of appliances, and there are plenty of spaces to sit and relax. The views are beautiful with the house overlooking the lake. We really couldn't be happier with the house. Relaxing outside in the hot tub is the best way to relax after skiing all day too. There is a convenience store right down the street that also sells pizza, subs, etc. which is really nice. I can't recommend this place enough. If you are thinking of booking it, just do it!!

Perfect for all ages and physical abilities.

My family, consisting of 23 members ranging in age from 2 - 85 has just returned from our best summer vacation yet. Bryant Pond Station exceeded ALL our expectations. The listing description did not do it justice. The property is very clean and well-maintained and so well laid out that everyone had the perfect space, and plenty of it. Supplies and amenities were plentiful. Rules and expectations were clear. No one was ever bored. The property was so fantastic that the only off-property trips were to the grocery stores, and one back-to-school shopping trip. The children spent almost all their time outdoors. Plenty of space for safe bike riding. Insects were minimal. Great fire pit ! Plenty of wood. Jonathan was quick to pleasantly respond to our two queries. We are anxiously and eagerly looking forward to next summer's family vacation.

Great location and outdoor space but could use some home improvements.

Great Location. The water was great for swimming and kayaking. The lawn, access to the water and fire pit area were great. Plenty of parking. We enjoyed the kitchen and upper living room area. We loved the small second table in the kitchen. It was great for games. We loved having 2 refrigerators and it was helpful to have a washer and dryer. The house layout worked well for our large group. The house however could use some improvements. The beds were uncomfortable. New mattresses, pillows and sheets would go a long way. It could use AC units to reduce the humidity /dampness and cool the place off. There were plenty of fans, but almost all the bedrooms were still very hot. The middle living room could use more lighting and the carpet and furniture felt damp. The beds on the bottom floor were not useable for us as even with the dehumidifier running, it was too musty to sleep in. We were disappointed that the rowboat and pedal boat listed in amenities were not there. The internet kept cutting out for us (although that might not be a bad thing when on vacation). In general, the weekly cleaning seemed fine, but the house could use a good spring cleaning to remove the dust in the corners. Overall, a few upgrades could go a long way to improve the experience, but the water and outdoor space was awesome.

Filthy and poorly maintained, beautiful lake

I have never seen a rental property as poorly cleaned as this one. I texted with the owner on arrival because the house had clearly been given a quick "once-over" with heavily scented cleaning products (causing reactive cough in a few of us that finally cleared after a few hours with the windows open) but had not REALLY been cleaned. On further inspection, not only was there dirt/hair/grime on the kitchen floor which I had to vacuum (with bare feet it felt super gross), but there was toothpaste on the chair in the bathroom. The owner said that perhaps their newer cleaner wasn't as good, but I countered that the level of thick sticky grime on the kitchen cabinets and cobwebs/chunks of dirt covering lights, fans, etc made it clear that the house hadn't been properly cleaned in a very long time. The significant cleaning fee is sufficient for a proper cleaning, so this is astonishing. If we hadn't been having a family gathering, with all the attendant coordination, I would have left and just driven back to Boston - it felt really unsanitary, everywhere. The house itself faces a lovely lake, but is very dark, with most bedrooms having one small window. The basement "bedroom" pictured (the arches) is an unventilated dead-end without an egress. This is a clear fire hazard and I would imagine not allowed in a rental unit under any building code. The two refrigerators were both missing shelves, and both slowly leaked water into the bottom shelf - it got gross pretty quickly inside both fridges. The house is more of a "camp." The sliding doors to the deck do not open and there is a sign telling guests not to use them - you have to go around through a side bedroom to access the deck, which does have a nice view of the lake. Several chairs around the house are broken. All that being said, this property is situated on a lovely lake and comes with 3 canoes, 2 kayaks, and plenty of life jackets. We really enjoyed paddling and swimming in the clear water. The dock was easy to use and the dock to swim to was nice also.

Wild wonderful camp holiday!

We brought our group of ten to Bryant Pond Station for Thanksgiving due to my range dying the week before. We could have had three times that many and still had plenty of room. It was brisk outside, but the views of the pond were still beautiful, the woodstove kept everything quite cozy and the hot tub was a much appreciated touch. This property is quirky and unique while feeling like all of the best family camps I've been to in Maine.

Excellent New Year's Vacation

They say that the way you spend New Year's eve is how the new year will look like. Thanks to this house, we can say for sure - 2021 will be perfect. This is the largest house we've ever been to. It served everyone so well. It has many rooms and divisions, so relatively very quiet. Plus, the kids played hide an seek for hours... We enjoyed the stove, all amenities in the kitchen, the many refrigerators and freezers, and the fireplace. Oh, and the pool table, foosball, and Jacuzzi! everywhere there are pictures and photos of trains and rail stations - very cool. we could not think of anything we might need and did not have. Thank you Jon!

Would not stay again!

We had a large group and the house was a great size to accommodate us. However the house was very dirty; the fans literally had dust caked on them. There was a dirty diaper under one of the beds, dirty underwear under another, stains on the bedding and cobwebs everywhere. We needed to wipe everything down when we got there. The kitchen fan over the table had dust literally hanging of it....we needed to clean it before we could eat at the table. There was not sufficient parking even though I confirmed that there would be ample parking for trucks and snowmobile trailers for 26 people before booking. The house is extremely run down; it has a lot of potential but is in serious need of some remodeling and updating. I would not book this property again.

Great for large groups!

We had 7 families stay here with kids of all ages and it was great! Enough space for everyone so you did not feel on top of one another. Hot tub and pool table was a huge success! Johnny Wells was an amazing host and very attentive with all questions. House if fully stocked with everything you need. Sunday River is only a 15 minute ride or so. I bet this space would be amazing in the summer as well! The only thing I would recommend is to have website updated with accurate photos for all sleeping areas and beds per bedroom.

Bryant Pond Revisited

This is our third visit to this property. As in prior years, the entire family had everything they needed for a much-looked-to vacation. John has always been exceptionally and satisfactorily responsive to any issue or question. All four (4) generations of our family are eagerly awaiting our return.

BEWARE

BEWARE!! Owner is extremely disorganized, I booked and paid in January 2016 for my vacation August 5th for 3 families. On August 1st I called to get the final details and Johnny tells me he double booked. REALLY??? Thanks for ruining 3 families week off!! THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND I WOULD CAUTION ANYONE FROM DOING BUSINESS WITH THIS FAMILY!!

Perfect for large groups!

We have a group of adults who have been renting this house for a weekend for the past 8 years. It's always our favorite ski weekend of the year. Only 15 minutes from Sunday River, and those who don't ski have plenty to do at the house. More than enough beds for everyone, and a huge kitchen table for meals together. Jon has always been very accommodating!!

Great Vacation Spot For A Large Group!

We have bee staying here at "Bryant Pond Station" for a week every July since 2013 and have just booked our fourth Family Vacation week coming up in July 2016. We LOVE it here! Jon has thought of everything. There is plenty of comfortable room for our large group of four families. We range in ages from babies to late 60's and there is so much for everyone to enjoy at this wonderful property. Jon is a pleasure to rent from and provides exceptional customer service. Our kids, who are mostly in their 20's and 30's, look forward to spending our July week at Bryant Pond for this vacation/reunion each Summer to do some cousin-bonding. There is so much to do here. The yard is huge for playing lawn games like Can-Jam and Corn Hole. There is plenty of room to spread out and relax. The crystal clear pond/lake is simply amazing to fish, swim, float or row around and take in the beautiful views - especially at sun-set! There is even a hot-tub! Bros Too, the corner store, is right down the road and has everything from gas, beer, eggs, specialty meats and everything in between, not to mention they also have awesome pizza. There are plenty of larger grocery stores and a Walmart close by, too. There is golf, antiques, a raceway and a casino all within 1/2 hour or less drive. There is even a place close by that will cook your lobsters and steamers for you so you can have a clam bake without all of the work! We LOVE it here

Family Reunion

Our family just enjoyed a week long stay here along with one of the condos next door. This was our 2nd time renting here and will definitely be returning. We were a large group of 33 people, ranging in age from 1 to 88. Couldn't ask for a better place. The house offers so much space never felt crowded. The bedrooms are just far enough from the common areas that we could put the little ones down for the night and party on without fear of waking them. Also in the mornings the early risers didn't bother those wanting to sleep in. The yard is so spacious plenty of room for all the games. The lake is gorgeous. Family members did all sorts of activities offered in the area. Hiking, horse back riding, golfing, kayaking and let's not forget the casino. I personally never left the yard for the entire week enjoying every moment. I highly recommend Bryant Pond and am anxious to start planning the next reunion there!

Why they chose this property

OF course, the lake was the # 1 alluring factor when we purchased the home but the capability the house has is immense. Imagine if you will my band playing in front of the fireplace in the huge living room while our friends are dancing, playing pool and carrying on. Meanwhile, with the french doors at the far end of the kitchen closed to the bedroom side of the house, all our kids are all fast asleep, undisturbed by the music!
Another example.. We had a skit night and the living room became the stage and everyone sat in the dining/kitchen area to watch the kids perform as well as some pretty bizarre adult skits.
Another fun thing we can do is a 'Team paddle' across the lake and hike Mount Christopher to the summit (an easy hike) and catch the great views of the area.
At night, the fire pit is the #1 draw, easy access from the front door.
We love the region and have made some great friendships there. Our caretaker, cleaners, carpenters, plumber, electrician are second to none and do great work keeping the house chugging along.

What makes this property unique

The location is wonderful facing the lake, watching the awesome sunsets, hearing the loons.
Between the set up of the house, the large yard, and the huge dock, it is very easy for large groups to spread out and never feel crowded. Picture your group... Kids swimming, some adults playing a game of croquet, teenagers paddling around in the canoes, grandparents sitting in the screened porch watching the fun, Dad cooking burgers and dogs on the grille, more kids on the swings, 4 adults playing a competitive game of horseshoes and a few more folks relaxing in the hot tub... Oh, and 'Uncle Ed' taking a nap under the shade of our weeping willow tree.... All going on at the same time. Picture your extended family and you will fully understand how the uniqueness of this home and surroundings has been a true winner for so many families since we purchased this great property in 1998.
