About this property

Attractive Cottage A Pool With A View of the Rio and Portugal. Walks from Gate.

Rio Miño Cottage is privately housed in the grounds of a beautiful Rustic Finca, in a elevated position, with gorgeous views to Portugal and River Minho. Good sized shared swimming pool 'with a view' in mature green and secure grounds. There are two terraced or shaded areas for sitting out, and a small private BBQ within the Ancient Galician Horreo, with extensive recreational areas throughout the extensive grounds. Peaceful area, with river, forest and hill walks direct from Finca. Sandy river beach, safe for swimming, 10 minutes walk, with many gorgeous sandy sea beaches within 15- 30 minutes drive, on both Spanish and Portuguese side. Good restaurants within walking distance, and in the heart of The Albarino wine producing area of Rosal. Lots to do and see with Celtic and Roman and other historical remains abundant in the locality. Water sports, riding, walking trips and cycling can be organised locally. Ideal location for couples, families or larger groups with a separate large reception room available if required. My personal profession is a spiritual coach and I would love to offer private Yoga/Pilates/Meditation/Breath work sessions during your stay at my new studio on the Finca grounds if that interests you please do let me know.

Beautiful cottage overlooking the river

Beautiful surroundings and well maintained pool and gardens. There are three really good restaurants and tapas bars in walking distance. Pam was very helpful with suggestions of where to visit and eat out. We swam in the river most days and enjoyed driving over the border to Portugal for the beaches and market. A very relaxing holiday.

Idyllic setting for a beautiful holiday

Had such a wonderful week staying in the cottage. The owner could not do enough for us. Extremely knowledgeable and gave us great suggestions on how to get the maximum from our stay; where to sightsee, eat, shop etc. We spent a few lazy afternoons around the lovely pool after beautiful long walks in the mornings. We even walked to Portugal! A couple of evenings we sat eating our dinner on the beautiful veranda overlooking Portugal. Cannot recommend this beautiful gem enough.

Long white sandy beaches and beautiful river swimming pools

We have just come back from two weeks staying in this lovely Finca. There was something for everyone, including our 12 and 14 year old boys, to enjoy. Robin made us feel so at home and helped us get the most out of the beautiful area. The cottage's thick walls kept it cool and the lush garden planting and inviting pool made it a wonderful place to return to after exploring or laze about all day. The area has everything from the long white sandy beaches of Portugal, just over the river, or our favourite, beautiful river swimming pools that wind their way through eycalyptus woods. We liked that it is not a 'touristy' area and Robin helped us find places we would't have got to alone. We were there in Fiesta season, which was very entertaining. They certainly like their daytime fireworks and drums! Last mention goes to Broc (a collie) who worked as hard as his owner to make sure we had a lovely time. Thank you so much Robin.

Lovely finca right at the Portuguese border

We loved staying at the cottage. The whole finca is just beautiful and well-kept. The cottage was very clean when we arrived and is nicely arranged. Robin is the perfect host. From the first moment on you can tell that he really cares. He pointed us many beautiful places to visit and was always around to help. Our three kids loved the dog and the cat which really made them feel at home. The surrounding is also just lovely. There are many diffenrent places to swim, from pools in fresh water rivers to beaches at the Rio Minho and the Atlantik Ocean. We stayed there in July and the weather was nice but not too hot. We will definitely come back!

Beautiful peaceful location

Worked really well for our family - completely peaceful lovely place to relax but easy access to great swimming spots and other activities. Loved being able to walk to good local restaurants in the evenings. My only hesitation in recommending the finca is that we plan to return and don’t want it all booked up!

This is one of our favourite holiday places

This was our 2nd time at the property. This time we went horse riding, swimming in mountain rivers and white water rafting - all arranged via Robin. Again as before he was brilliant in giving us tips and making calls on our behalf. Robin and his animals (Brock, Dylan and the cats) make this place special. The setting is Beautiful, the weather was sunny but not too hot compared to the rest of Spain. Our teenage daughters loved the pool and crossing back and forth between Spain and Portugal to go body boarding. We would definitely recommend this place.

Beautiful stay

We stayed in the Cottage which we loved for our group of 3 adults and a baby. It is much bigger than the photos, has great outdoor space to eat and absorb the atmosphere of the region, and amazing views from the upstairs bedroom. We loved the full working kitchen and ate half our meals in. We would definitely return to Finca Rio Minho again and we never repeat holidays. There are so many places to explore nearby - we barely touched the surface during our 8 days there. Highly recommend renting bikes to ride along the trails just outside the cottage that go along the river and you can take a bridge to a cute town in Portugal. To finish it off, Robin and Deb were amazing hosts who did not hesitate to help with anything we needed - Robin even introduced us to some of his friends at the village fiesta. Just book it!

Beautiful cottages in a stunning location.

My husband and I booked for a week and wished we’d booked for more. As it was Galicia and late in the season we expected changeable weather and were prepared with jumpers and macs, but when the mist cleared in the early mornings we had a warm sunny seven days. A wonderful place to kick back and soak up the sun, swim in the pool and enjoy beautiful views of Portugal from the terrace or explore fabulous sea and river beaches just a short walk or drive away. We stayed in one of the Casitas, which were cosy and well equipped. We like to eat in as well as sample local cuisine and the kitchen had everything a master chef needs and Robin was on hand to provide any extras needed. Robin was a friendly and accommodating host, nothing was too much trouble and he pointed us at some of the best local bars & restaurants for fabulous food, great walks and amazing views - a mine of local information. We were so taken with the area, he even took us to visit some properties for sale I’m not a dog or cat lover, but, much to my children’s amazement, I fell in love with Robin’s dogs Broc, and Dylan and cats Minnie and Pixie who all made us feel welcome and at home. Fabulous place. Looking forward to returning.

Peaceful stay in authentic Galicia

Everything about our stay in the cottage was what a holiday should be - stress-free! The booking process was easy and travel straightforward. We received a warm welcome from Robin and the dogs with an introduction to the area accompanied by a cool glass of local wine. The cottage was perfect - clean and well-equipped. Robin ensured we had all we needed and his local knowledge was invaluable as we set out to explore the area. He arranged bike hire for a week of our stay. The bikes just turned up without us having to do anything. We enjoyed a variety of cycle rides including flat riverside cycle paths and the more challenging climb up Monte Tegra. They were also useful in cycling to the coast. We took advantage of Robin's restaurant recommendations, all the more enjoyable because we could walk to several local ones. Our days took on a lovely pattern - a cycle, walk, coast or town visit, and then back to swim in the pool or wander down to swim from the river beach. In the evening the only decision was do we eat out or do we have a bbq and if so which table should be eat at - the one in the sun or the one in the shade of the vine. This is what constitutes a relaxing and care-free holiday! I would also add that the internet access was good, important for us as we were travelling with teenagers (17 and 14). All credit to Robin in ensuring that this was the perfect base in which to explore unspoilt Galicia.

A Galician paradise

We are just after returning from a week in paradise! The accommodation in the Cottage was perfect for our needs: 2 adults plus an 8 and 6 year old.Twin beds upstairs and a double downstairs. We were spoilt for choice with the outdoor sitting/ eating areas: 3 different tables with different levels of shade. The pool area is a good size and immaculately maintained, as were all of the gardens. Robin and his dogs were wonderful hosts, and really helped us make the most of the area, with great recommendations. The location was ideal for us, with 2 tapas bars and a restaurant within walking distance. Once of the tapas bars is a real gourmet experience. The location is perfect to discover Portugal, the portugese markets are like the Spanish markets were 20 years ago and the "park laze"r in Vila Nova de cerveira is a perfect family day out: a river beach, playgrounds, a water/splash park and all for free! The crazy golf is 1 euro per person. You can arrange kayaking or stand up paddle trips from here. Check out the local festivals, we went to the O Rosal wine festival which was very enjoyable. The weather was glorious 20's to low 30's. Our only regret is not being there for 2 weeks, but maybe next year!

A wonderful holiday in rural Galicia

After a warm welcome by Robin and his 2 delightful dogs we had a very comfortable and enjoyable stay in the cottage. The garden and pool area are beatifully kept and there are fantastic views of river Mino. We were pleasantly surprised to find so many things to do within close distance to the cottage. We went canoeing, cycling, walking and body boarding as well as enjoying excellent tapas and wine at 2 restaurants within walking distance. Robin was helpful in giving suggestions and ideas, including booking us in for a paella! What makes this area interesting is the variety including trips to nearby Portugal. Highly recommended and planning to return when our kids are old enough to do the white water rafting! The Phelps family with 2 kids 12 and 10

Stone Cottage stay

Spain and Portugal, great location. The accommodation delivers what it says on the tin. Clean, tidy, comfortable and pretty much what I would expect from a holiday rental. Where this differentiates is from the grounds and gardens, the location and from Robin, the owner, and his knowledge and willingness to share it. There is so much to see and do both sides of the border. Walk the Minho river and spend time looking at the wildlife. Smashing walks. Restaurants locally and further afield that are wonderful and great value.A car is essential but this gives so much access to wonderful visits to Santiago, Tui and Braga etc. If you want little England don't go. If you want something different this is for you with the added advantage that you can still get great value for your money. Loved it.

Relaxing stay in stunning location

We (family of four with two teenage girls) loved our stay in the cottage. We were in need of a relaxing holiday and Robin looked after us from the moment we arrived, ensuring that in the five days we were there we saw some fantastic places and ate at the best tapas restaurant in Galicia (walking distance from the finca). We really enjoyed the days when we did't have to get in the car. The lovely river beach is really close and there are some lovely walks. We will return - this is an amazing place with stunning views and the grounds so beautifully kept, it was a treat returning after a day out. Thank you so much Robin.

Let me start with an apology to Robin for the late review!!!! This place is a gem!!! It was just what the doctor ordered! If you are looking for true relaxation just place your faith in Robin(The humble Welsh gentleman who owns this little piece of heaven). His easy nature and vast knowledge of this area really help to make you feel at home. I highly recommend the mountain trip to Baiona....the most fantastic of views just as you approach Baoina. The local tapas bar an d restaurants are fantastic. Swimming in the River Minho in October is REFRESHING!!!. And make sure to say hello to Robins best buddies Broc and Dylan .....two great characters!!! This one is definitely on our list for a return trip.

Highly recommend

We stayed in the cottage with our 12 month old son for 2 weeks in September 13. The cottage is well equipped and perfectly comfortable. The terrace to the front of the property is a great place for al fresco dining and a real sun trap. The property has a lovely garden which is a massive plus. Robin is a very good host and is extremely knowledgeable of the local area. The finca is well located and close to some lovely towns on both the Portuguese and Galician sides. A car is essential but the roads were quiet and the driving was very straightforward. While we were at the finca there was some interesting local fiestas which were great fun. The place is really peaceful and a great spot if you are looking for somewhere to wind down. We found it to be relaxing in the extreme and thoroughly enjoyable.

Idyllic getaway

We were so fortunate to find this delightful, characterful paradise. Although not by nature doggie people we were captivated by the boys, very well behaved dogs, and had a lot of fun with them. The surrounding grounds are charming, and although luck was not with us weather wise we enjoyed every minute. Robin is the perfect host and introduced us to the local eateries and places of interest, of which there are many. Best of all, perhaps , we saw no English cars until we drove North on our return. After two weeks we departed, leaving behind new friends and taking happy memories.

What a great place

We came to Finca Rio Minho in late Sept 2013, and didn't have the best of weather, but it didn't matter: this is a great place to stay. We were in the Cottage, which is an excellent accommodation, and (because of the weather) we used the kitchen quite a lot, which worked very well. The bedroom and bathroom were very good, and spotlessly clean. We loved the garden and views, and Robin was endlessly helpful and great company, as were his lovely dogs and cats. We also enjoyed walks in the hills and along the river to the rocky beach when it was dry, and trips into Portugal to check out the local towns. Lots to do in the area. For such a small village, the local (walkable) restaurants are not bad - and probably rather good in summer. Galicia is definitely interesting, and has far fewer tourists than most coastal locations. And food and wine are very very cheap here. Highly recommended.
