About this property
Burr Barn luxury Devon barn with heated indoor swimming pool
Devon barn conversion nestled in a tranquil valley, near coast and countryside
Wood Farm is a truly delightful, quintessentially English homestead on a small private estate nestling in a completely rural and tranquil valley. This is a real rural hideaway, yet lies equidistant between the towns of Dartmouth, Totnes and Kingsbridge. Burr Barn overlooks a grassy meadow, an old apple orchard, a meandering natural stream and a pond full of wildlife. Renovated to a high standard, this original Devon barn, estimated as being 200 years old, retains its original scissor beam trusses and features. The accommodation is reverse living, with the spacious open-plan living, dining, kitchen areas upstairs and bedrooms downstairs. White plaster walls, rugs on oak floors and contemporary kitchens allow for a warm living area. Luxuriously designed to merge the traditional barn features and rustic timbers with modern living and a wow factor. The underfloor heating is supplied by the state-of-the art ‘ground source heat’, a super effective method of supplying heat from nature itself. The interiors are totally unique and offer a high degree of comfort and style. The beds have crisp, white cotton linen and supersize, fluffy towels are provided too. The old farmyard around which the barns are positioned is quite charming, with old sweet-smelling rose bushes creeping up the stone barn walls and pretty planted areas.
For complete peace and quiet, this is the place to be - there is no light pollution here, and the sky at night is a spectacular sight to see. Surrounded by open countryside and small copses of ancient woodland, wildlife abounds. Down by the river kingfishers can sometimes be seen, whilst at night you can hear owls hooting in the trees and the stream tinkling through the valley. A public footpath runs through the 5-acre grounds, and a short walk, 15 mins over fields leads to the little village of Blackawton, with its 15th-century Norman church and village pub. Kingsbridge is about 7 miles away and has an excellent range of shops, restaurants and local facilities for canoe and paddle board hire. Totnes, at the head of the estuary of the River Dart in Devon, is 8 miles away and has a reputation for an eclectic mixture of shops, restaurants, market and residents focus on artistic talent and ecological living. The ever popular and affluent towns of Dartmouth and Salcombe are 7 and 12 miles away respectively, both with beautiful harbours and estuaries. They are a mecca for yachting and water sports with some excellent shops, markets, restaurants and inns as well as lovely sandy beaches and cliff top walks. Dartmoor National Park, the largest and wildest area of open country in Southern England with its wild ponies and outdoor adventures, is 12 miles away. There are some excellent beaches in the local area including Bigbury, Bantham, Thurlestone, Torcross, Slapton Sands, dog-friendly all year round, and Blackpool Sands, with its Venus café, about 6 miles away. Village shop and post office, traditional pub and play park ½ mile.
