About this property

Cozy Lakefront Cabin w/ canoe, hammock, fire-pit & grill! Perfect group getaway

The log sided three bedroom cabin is located on Loon Lake less than 10 minutes from Turtle Lake, WI to the south and Cumberland, WI to the north, which is about an hour from the Twin Cities Metro area. Surrounded by the Loon Lake State Wildlife Area, this north woods getaway is on a wooded point with lakeshore on two sides of the cabin, giving a sense of privacy. The cabin’s open design main floor kitchen, dining and living room offer great views of the lake with the dock and swimming area 25 feet from the patio door. The main floor's knotty pine interior has one bedroom next to the bathroom and a rustic tree branch railing staircase that leads to the two bedrooms on the second level.
The lake water is clear with a mostly sandy bottom, which is great for swimming and other outdoor recreation like fishing and canoeing with frequent sightings of deer, loons and other wildlife. The back bay is not normally used by power boats and pontoons, providing a great backwoods escape for paddlers. The public boat landing is on the south end of the lake. The lake has great fishing for Northern, Large Mouth Bass, Crappies and Sunfish. (View photos for a lake map) The lake is surrounded by public land with trails for hiking, hunting or viewing nature. (View photos for map of wildlife refuge) There are also several local restaurants, golf courses, and bars for entertainment like the Turtle Lake Casino. Blazer’s Cheese Store and Creamery located minutes away from the cabin in Comstock offers an excellent variety of cheese, pastas, wines, gifts and best of all ice cream. The town of Cumberland is a friendly town ideal for shopping at the bakery, antique and gift shops. Cabin road leads to the ATV trail for Barron County. The cabin is surrounded by the Loon Lake Wildlife Refuge Trails that offers many recreational opportunities.

Family vacation

Girl's weekend at the lake

Another great stay at the lake. It was hot, but a couple of fans in the windows upstairs kept us nice and cool at night. The lake was nice and cool and perfect for floating and loon watching.

Northwoods Getaway

Our family enjoyed our recent stay at the Northwoods Getaway. When we arrived, we were greeted by two bald eagles perched in a tree above our car. Fishing was great! Every day we enjoyed hearing the loons. The cabin was very clean upon arrival. We would highly recommend this place for a family getaway!

Perfect ladies getaway

We have stayed at this property 4 or 5 times now and absolutely love it. The location on the lake is so ideal and the water is perfect for floating if you don’t mind the sunnies nibbling your toes. We got to witness a pack of 8 loons feeding and watched them for hours. We already booked for next year.

This is the 4th year my siblings and I have stayed here. The cabin is so nice and we have enjoyed seeing each year’s improvements. It is so relaxing to sit and just watch the water and wildlife go by. Can’t wait to go back next year!!!

Beautiful location just a few steps from the water.

Nicely laid out open floor plan with panoramic views of the water. About a dozen steps from deck to dock. Clear water, neighbors are distant, cabin is well stocked and clean. We had a lovely time.

Short but great trip!

We had a great experience at the cabin. Listening to the loons, watching the chipmunks play, listening to the bullfrogs, and most of all, enjoying the beautiful sunset, right off the back deck. This cabin is in a perfect location. You just step right outside to fish and swim as well as kayak. The cabin was very clean and well stocked. It was very relaxing and everything that our family truly needed!

Charming Lake Front Cabin

This was our second stay here and it was as great as the first time. So clean and well appointed. Panoramic view of the water. Waking up to the call of the loons. A bald eagle that hangs around the cabin treated us to a fishing display. Sitting around the firepit watching the sunset while lights pop up on the cabins across the lake. So peaceful.

Nice Cabin!

My daughter and I had a fun time here. We caught several small pan fish, a nice northern, and nice catfish right from the dock. Very convenient to have the dock and lake 10 steps from the cabin! Water at the cabin is not potable, so bring water for drinking and washing dishes.

Loon Lake

Great spot on point of Loon Lake, beautiful lake views from multiple spots. Guests in our group ranged from a 93yr old to a 13 yr old. Had great fun with paddle boat and row boat, my 13 yr old granddaughter loved the hammock! My 93 yr old Mom didn’t know if she’d ever be able to go fishing again but with some adaptations to get her and her walker on the dock she fished daily, along with her 85 yr old brother visiting from AZ! Had fun playing games nightly and tried campfire but mosquitoes were too abundant and hungry even with spray and sitting close to fire- oh well we managed to get a few s’mores made before we retreated. Thanks for making such a special space available for renters!

Sweet cabin on clean lake

Cabin was comfortable for 4 adults. Beautiful lake views from the open kitchen/dining/living room area. Kitchen was well equipped, furniture was comfortable. Just one bathroom, but it was recently redone. Nice fire pit. Lake was 10-15 feet from back door. Very clean clear water that was pleasant to swim in. There were always a few loons to watch and a terrific bald eagle nest close by. The birders among us found lots of great birdwatching both at the cabin and at nearby lakes and marshes. There are limited dining out options, so we mostly cooked our own dinners. There is no internet and only 1-2 bar cell service. Be prepared to enjoy a break from your phone. There are a DVD and video player connected to the TV and lots of movies provided. Consider bring some of your own if you are picky.

short two night stay.

overall the cabin was clean and the kitchen nicely appointed. the beds are too soft and feel very old. the bathroom shower way too high and small output to get a decent shower. outside features all very old and need updating. the dock very wobbly and the pontoon an ugly very old beat up distraction. The tiny lake entrance for swimming needs some attention to make the main part of the outside water feature nicer. very rocky and weedy. I just feel for the price we had a very less than average product. Could be nice if the outside updating was attended to. Very surprised for the money we had to strip beds and do so much to tidy up for the next guests

My wife and I (Becky and Jim) raised two sons at the cabin and have many wonderful memories that we are now extending to our grandchildren and new quests like you. We live about a half hour away and still enjoy the old Northwood's get away feel of this cabin.

Why they chose this property

Becky and I were raised in the country, living in the city and looking for a cabin to get away from manicured lawns and busy streets. Most important was a clear lake with a sandy bottom that was great for swimming and tubing. It had to have a north woods cabin feel. We found the perfect place where our kids learned to swim, canoe, fish, catch frogs, pick berries, and sing around the camp fire for a lifetime of wonderful memories.
