About this property

Little Red House, ideal for couple, private garden, in large secluded grounds

The property is a charming free-standing 18th century small house with a south facing terrace and it's own private 100m² garden. It is situated in the extensive and secluded grounds of the owner's principal residence which was built for King Louis' head groom of the stables at Versailles.
The accommodation covers 40m² and comprises a living room and fully fitted kitchen downstairs, with a double bedroom and en-suite bathroom upstairs, and has south and west-facing windows looking out over the main grounds. Electric heating (radiators and water) is included, as are telephone (excluding calls to cell phones) and high-speed Internet access.
Secure off-street parking is available.
The village of St Nom la Breteche has its own supermarkets, boulangeries, restaurants, chemist, banks, post office and tennis courts.
Main line trains to Paris (St Lazare in the North or Montparnasse in the South) are close by.

Please note that during July and August we cannot accept bookings of less than two weeks.

The area is well known for it's connections with artists, especially the Impressionists, including Renoir and Monet. Auvers sur Oise, where Van Gogh produced most of his paintings under the treatment of Dr Gachet, is within 20 mins drive. Giverny, Monet's home and gardens are 45 mins drive and Barbizon is 1hr away.
Debussy's birthplace and museum are in nearby St Germain en Laye, easily reached in 20 mins. The chateau was the home of the exiled Stuarts from 1688 until the Revolution. There are many other chateaus of interest nearby such as Versailles, 20 mins by car, Maison Laffitte, Maintenon, Fontainebleau and Vaux le Viscomte.
Further afield - but great for a day trip - are the Somme battlefields, the Armistice Clearing at Compiegne, Normandy and the coastal towns of Honfleur, Deauville, Etretat, the Somme Bay and estuary and it's extensive bird reserve plus the historic walled towns of St Valery and Montreuil sur Mer.
For the sporty there are three golf courses within 5 minutes drive, including the world-renowned St Nom la Breteche course. Also there are tennis courts opposite and numerous paths and cycle tracks in the local forest. The famous racecourses of Longchamps and Chantilly are both not far.
Then of course there is everything that Paris has to offer, which is easily reached by train or car.....

Normandy Haven
A wonderfully peaceful retreat in an exquisite garden location ! Very friendly, musical hosts with heaps of local knowledge provided us with a unique and history-drenched holiday home from which to explore the region… Convenient for the splendid palace and gardens of Versailles, lovely St Germaine-en-Laye, Claude Monet’s magical gardens, house & studio at Giverny, the Impressionist trail along the Seine at Chatou, le Corbusier’s iconic Villa Savoye etc Next time we shall visit Auvers to see where Vincent Van Gogh stayed and spend more time exploring the gorgeous Normandy countryside. Thank you Sue and Steve for being such welcoming hosts - and for singing an impromtu rendition of “Happy Birthday” with the choir x

Perfect!
We felt like home although far away from home. Very quiet place to stay, safe parking, beautiful garden. Steve and Sue had lots of good ideas what to visit. And most important for us: how to get to Stade de France easily. Because we came to visit a concert in Paris and Versailles. We enjoyed our stay and would come back anytime! Klaus and Sabine

Amazing hosts
The little red house sits amongst beautiful gardens, just a stones throw to the main house where our hosts Steve and Sue call home. The home is equipped for a short or extended stay, with full kitchen (cooktop, oven, microwave and dishwasher), dining table and sofa downstairs, bedroom and bath upstairs. A small table and chairs is outside for enjoying your coffee and enjoying the fresh air. A market, pizzeria, crepery and Asian restaurant are all within walking distance (or very short drive). There is an ATM directly across the street and a coffee house / bar less than 1 block away. It was a pleasure waking to the nearby church bells and sound of birds in the garden. Within a few mile drive are several golf courses (we ate at the local 9 hole course and the meal was exceptional). If ever in this area again we would definitely stay. Our hosts were always available by text, or a knock on the door. We were treated like friends rather than renters. The parking is behind a gate and everything is very secure. Merci !

fantastisch!

Excellent property with parking
This is a great property to use as a base for visting various tourist sites. From here my wife and I visited Monet's house and gardens at Giverny, Chateau Fontainebleau, Versailles which is about 15mins by car. Central Paris by local train station with free parking approx 40min ride. There is a great little boulangerie within walking distance with amazing bread and pastries. There also two small supermarkets and resturants again within easy walking distance. The house has everything you could wish for, clean and comfortable and is in such a quiet and peacefull setting. Steve and Sue Knight - the owners are great and made us feel very welcome and were very knowledgeable about the area which came in handy. Thank you for the lovely accomodation and your help during our stay. Hope the wedding went well!

Garden setting, close to many sights, just outside Paris
We stayed here 6 nights and were sad to leave. This location was perfect for visiting Giverny, Versailles, Chartres and Auvers-sur-Oise. The owners were excellent hosts, providing information in English and French, they are both very gracious, welcoming and willing to assist when needed. The house had everything we needed, excellent appliances and comfortable bed. It was clean and quiet. We had an auto and there is parking on the property. Wifi worked throughout the house. The town of St Nom had everything you need, with an assortment of restaurants if you don't feel like cooking, but many shops for the meals you may want to eat in. We would happily return to this property and stay longer.

Convenient location and well equipped
We stayed here for 9 nights and enjoyed our holiday a lot. We chose it as we wanted to visit Paris, Versailles, Chartres, Giverny and it proved ideal. We had lots of communication with the owners before arrival, and there was plenty of local info at the house. It was clean, well equipped, quiet, private and a pleasure to come back to after a day out and sit in the garden sipping wine and eating cheese. Being able to get the local train to Paris from the local station (in the forest, so no parking problems) was a winner for us.

Incredible haven
The only thing is...............if I tell you all what an incredible piece of heaven I've just experienced then it won't be available for me 'tomorrow'! The grounds are quiet as can be, the gates keep you safe and the company, is divine....Literally....Music is the focus in this home (professional choir visits once in a while in 'winter' too). Simply put.....'lovely' for singles too.

Accupuncture, dentist, optimologist, facials, beautition, bookstore, post office, bus service, woods walks, rough bike trails! lots to do. Shopping for anything....two Malls 20 minutes drive, historic sites. Never board assuridly.

Second to None !
Once upon a time.... that is the way all adventures starts, this one is no exception..... A really nice area and with the lovely little red house, that fully lives up to the expectations you get when you have read the landlord's description. I have lived in this lovely house for almost 3 months and in no way lacking anything from my daily life at home. The house is fully equipped with everyday comforts, a lovely garden and terrace to sit and enjoy the serenity along enjoying nature. A truly incredible sweet and wonderful family who is renting out the house, and who do everything to make you feel comfortable and offers to help with whatever they can. I can only recommend this place and have absolutely no doubt that I will return here in the future. Thank you so much for everything, and all the best for the future ! Vibeke Hellebjerg, Denmark

Charming Home Away from Home
The Little Red House is every bit as charming as the photo here: a small but stately home in a large, beautifully landscaped garden. Though the building is historically old, the interior in newly remodeled and very comfortable, including even a dishwasher and a washing machine. The home sits off to the side of the owner's lovely home, and while it has its own garden, we were also encouraged to explore the owner's lovely grounds. We especially enjoyed the free and secure parking in the gated courtyard. By car, the house is about 15 minutes from Versailles, about 40 minutes from Paris, and 1-2 hours from Chartres. It made a perfect home base for all our adventures. When asked, the owner graciously provided travel directions and suggestions for lovely places to visit. Indeed, the host and his family looked after us very well. Since we do not speak French, we were grateful that our host was English. We thoroughly enjoyed staying in this delightful little house and highly recommend it.

Lovely house, garden and location.
The Little Red House is a great place if you want to stay somewhere that combines city and countryside. The location provides the choice of travelling easily in to Paris by train or heading out for walking. The owners were very helpful throughout the booking process and provided lots of information on our arrival. There is all you need and the garden is a lovely bonus for sitting out in during the morning and evening. We bought the travel pass for 3 days and the museum pass for 4 days which allowed us to visit a wide range of places. In Paris the Musee Rodin was superb and the garden an added bonus. Steve left maps of the area and Rambouillet was a nice town where you can spend time in the chateau grounds and parkland plus walk around the nature reserve near St Hubert on the way home. We had a great week and would recommend the Little Red House to family and friends and may hopefully visit again in the future.

Superb!
We have just arrived home after an unforgettable vacation. We were welcomed by Steve, Sue and their family (and cutest two dogs). The house, gardens and location are fantastic, wonderful, unforgettable. We loved everything. We were welcome not only in Paris, but in The Little Red House as well. Steve and Sue made us feel like old good friends. The house is charming, cosy and everything one can need for a comfort accommodation, is there. It is rather close to the train station, wherefrom one can go to Paris. The house was clean, renovated and very charming. We are definitely going back to stay there again on our next trip to France and Paris. We have as well recomended it for our friends and family, who would love to go Paris to choose The Litte Red House. Best recommendations from family Lyberth, Denmark.

Anniversary break
The property was as advertised and lives up to it's previous reviews. The owners were extremely helpful and we were invited in for a chat and refreshing drink on arrival after a long journey in inclement weather. Our hosts Steve and Sue were approachable and amenable throughout our stay and reacted immediately to our few minor requests. They had prepared and provided local, Paris and Versailles maps and train and bus ticket and timetable information which were very useful. Free parking is available at the local rail station with trains direct to Paris and taking about 30 to 40 minutes. Versailles is about twenty minutes away by car and on our first visit there we purchased Paris Museum tickets which give free access to over 60 museums and monuments in and around Paris. These are available for varying numbers of days (consecutive). We opted for a 6 day pass which cost approximately 60 pounds sterling each. All the advertised equipment in the property worked and we particularly appreciated the clothes and dish washing machines provided. Also the free high speed Wi-Fi and telephone access was very much appreciated. The property remained warm and comfortable throughout our stay and is in a very quiet area. The gardens are well maintained and I am sure a picture in summer. The village had a very pleasant central shopping plaza a few minutes walk away, with free parking if needed, and the nearest supermarket and butchers was two minutes walk away just around the corner. We did not sample the forest cycle and walking tracks due to the unseasonal weather but saw them and would recommend the area to anyone. We were invited to afternoon tea with Steve and Sue the day before our departure and they requested feedback as to any areas for improvement and were very positive and amenable to these. We have already recommended this property to friends and relatives and will continue to do so. All requests for information that we made prior to arrival were answered promptly and were accurate. We were highly satisfied with our stay and would love to visit the property and area again and wish to thank personally Steve and Sue for their hospitality. Peter & Merrilin

Little Red House
Arriving at the Little Red House we were greeted by our hosts Steve and Sue and invited into their home for afternoon tea. The Little Red House was most charming and set inside the grounds of their own home which had off street parking in the large grounds. The gardens of the house were beautiful and with lots of shade trees which we took advantage of because the weather was beautiful whilst we were there and we were able to sit outside. The house was very comfortable with all that you need including dishwasher and washing machine. The village had a boulangiere, restaurants and supermarket so did not have to travel far to get all that you needed. The surrounding area was great if you were into bike riding or walking in the forests and a short drive to the train station to take the train into Paris for sightseeing and also a short drive to Versailles. We had a great time and would go back again to stay at the Little Red House.

A magnificent vacation in this charming home
This charming home has all the amenities you will need. We enjoyed the beautiful gardens right outside our door. It's in a safe and secure gated estate. We found the off street parking to be extremely convenient. The house was very clean and comfortable and it has all quality fixtures, none of those cheap fixtures you see in some rentals. It's perfectly located away from the hustle of the big city, but close enough for day trips to Paris, Versailles and all other attractions. Our two week stay in "the little red house" was wonderful. What makes this rental exceptional are the owners, Steve and Sue are very friendly and accommodating, they made us feel like part of their family.
