Perfect for a large family gathering

Situated in a quiet and picturesque region with plenty of bastides and village markets to explore as well as easy access to the Dordogne river region. Loaded with beautiful original architectural details, this 17th century chateau was an awesome venue for our large family gathering. The six generous bedrooms and expansive gathering areas and outdoor space easily accommodated our four generations of family from across the US and UK. The pool was great and well used by all. The back patio area was perfect for relaxing and family style dining each night. The kitchen was well equipped and we had no issues feeding the group each night. The upstairs bedrooms and bathrooms were recently remodeled with the gorgeous old beam work being nicely preserved and accented. Downstairs bedrooms and their on-suites were quite large and spacious. The local property manager lives close by and was really responsive and easy to work with during our stay. The highlight of the stay was the prepared meal for 21 by a local chef who was introduced to us by the owner….a great end to a fabulous family get together.

A magical trip to remember

We booked Saint-Columb-de-Lauzun for 14 guests in July 2019, and it was the best decision we’ve ever made. We’ve been holidaying together for four years and we all agreed this was the best property yet. The property itself is steeped in history. It’s been renovated but without losing its charm. It has large reception rooms and dining rooms that can easily fit groups as large as ours, which has always been a challenge. The only downside is no air-con, but it’s a high ceiling stone property so it’s naturally cool. The main plus is the outside area. The pool has been renovated since the photographs and now has a small fence around it, and there are plenty of sunbeds and two large umbrellas. The pool is also extremely clean, and deep. The outside area above is massive, and there are three tables that mean large groups can sit outside to eat whilst looking out over an uninterrupted view of the surrounding farmland. The property is well equipped for large groups. It has a large number of glasses and serving plates etc. There are also three barbecues and a large gas oven. The local area is a great plus point. Many of these large villas are situated in the middle of nowhere. The main advantage of Saint-Columb-de-Lauzun is that it’s a 12 minute walk from a town with a restaurant, shop and a bakery. Major supermarkets are only a 14 minute drive away. Overall it’s well connected. We ate in the restaurant a couple of times and the food there is good, and again, it can accommodate large groups. The property was so good that we spent as much time in it as possible, but we did venture out for a day trip on the Bergerac Wine Tour. There are leaflets for it in the house but booking in advance is essential for large groups. It was a full day of wine tasting and vineyard tours complete with extremely cheap pricing for those wanting to buy wine. The company pick you up in a minibus from the property at 10:00am and drop you back around 6pm. We’d highly recommend it for anyone that enjoys a drink.... Overall our stay was magical and we’d recommend it to anyone.

What a lovely stay in this wonderful house

What a lovely stay in this wonderful house. Spacious, well equiped, and full of history, it is ideally located to discover the area. We enjoyed our trip to discover the Dordogne valley (1hr drive) and its medieval castles (Bonaguil, Beynac, or Biron) but also the stunning view of nice villages like Monpazier or Villéreal. Then to fully accomodate the cultural trip, here comes the 'cuisine' element : foie gras and good wine being so close to Bergerac, Monbazillac and Saint Emilion ! To balance this busy vacation stay, it was great to relax feeling at home, swimming in the pool while sunset gave outstanding colours to the sky. Congratulations and thank you : this is a great place for vacation with friends and/or family. Yves
