A mixed experience
Our stay was in many ways marvellous, but a few things were quite frustrating. The good:• James was very responsive and helpful before our stay. • The house itself was comfortable and well laid-out for our group. The Christmas tree in the living room made it feel nice and homely over Christmas.• The beds were super comfy with nice linens.• Everything was clean, and we enjoyed the Aga in the kitchen and the woodburner in the living room.• We loved being up at the Old Racecourse and hearing the horses clip-clopping by for their morning rides. • It was so quiet at night – and great to just be able to walk out on to the Downs in the day.And the not so good:• After we booked and paid the first deposit, James increased the price by 50%. He said the VRBO settings were wrong, but had also raised the price on a/b*b. Not cool, at all.• We paid a premium for a house that had a woodburning stove but no matches - and a dishwasher but no dishwashing tablets. There wasn’t even a sponge in the kitchen. On Christmas morning we had to go find these essentials and spend time washing up. • The dishwasher stopped working after we’d used it once. We reached out to James for help on Boxing Day morning, but he didn’t respond. So we spend the best part of 3 days washing up for 7 people by hand, over Christmas.• We also had to buy more toilet paper. • If you’re going to charge a premium, at least give people the essentials they need to make use of the facilities and stay comfortably.
