So serene!

The cottage was cuter than we anticipated! We loved the cozy family / fireplace room. The gas fireplace heats the room up very nicely. The king size bed in the main bedroom was quite large and fairly comfortable, with lots of big pillows. The portable electric heaters available in every room worked fine too. We would have liked to stay longer than two nights, but alas... another couple had already reserved that day. Sarah, the owner, is very responsive to questions during your stay. Thank you for a great getaway!

Peaceful Weekend in The Country

Review of Mayhew Farms Cottage Mayhew Farms Cottage is a perfect blend of charm and comfort, offering everything you need for a relaxing getaway. The gas log fireplace adds a cozy touch, especially on cooler evenings, making it an ideal spot to curl up with a book or enjoy a quiet evening indoors. The screened porch is a standout feature—whether you’re sipping your morning coffee or winding down in the evening, it provides a peaceful space to soak in the surrounding views without worrying about bugs. The porch swing is an added delight, perfect for gentle rocking while enjoying the fresh air. The beds deserve a special mention—truly some of the comfiest I’ve experienced in a rental. They ensure a restful night’s sleep, leaving you refreshed and ready to explore or simply relax further. Overall, Mayhew Farms Cottage offers a wonderful mix of rustic charm and modern comforts. It’s perfect for a weekend retreat or a longer stay. Highly recommended!

Amazing Weekend Getaway

My husband and I feel so blessed by the time spent at this amazing cottage. Our first blessing was being greeted by a very sweet horse. The cottage was clean and beautifully decorated. Fresh baked cookies on the table. We enjoyed the beauty of the property. Thank you for hosting us this weekend.

Beautiful quiet countryside!

This is our second stay at this particular VRBO and it will certainly not be our last. Not only is this place situated in the country, but you have an excellent view of the mountains on all sides. Since it sits on an actual working farm, you have the peace, quiet and tranquility of country life. The place itself has everything that you'll need with a well stocked kitchen, full sized refrigerator, stove and microwave. Ample dishes and utensils make meal prep easy. The king bed in the master bedroom is sooooo comfortable! The second bedroom has a full size and twin bed creating plenty of sleeping space for everyone. The cozy family room has enough couch space and reclining chair to make tv watching enjoyable for all. The hosts are amazing and if there's anything that you need, they are quick to respond to inquiries. Highly recommend this place. It is one of our favorites and we will certainly be back!

Charming farm with great views!

We stayed here for several days for our daughter's graduation from Liberty University. This farm house had a unique, quaint style. Sarah, the owner, was very friendly and helpful, and was easy to get in touch with for any questions we had. Do note that there is only 1 bathroom here-I didn't pay attention to that. It has a folding partition separating it from the master bedroom, not a door. Not a huge deal for us since we were all family but worth noting if you're traveling with acquaintances. The kitchen is well stocked and there was a microwave, toaster, Keurig, and a full size fridge. Dining area was a little cramped but we made it work. Sarah left us a personalized note and some cookies for our arrival--a very sweet and kind touch. Living room is upstairs and very cozy and comfortable. TV worked well, and Wi-Fi was reliable. Beds were cozy and comfortable! The views were spectacular, and we were even treated to the northern lights one night. We made friends with Buck, their horse, who would come by and say hi in the mornings. We fed him apples :) Best of all, we did not get any last minute price changes or cancellation notices--which we had heard some places in the area will do, in order to charge more during graduation week. That was never an issue here--the price we originally booked was the price we paid. Very thankful for that! We had a nice relaxing stay here!! Very pleased!

Concerns

The location was beautiful and the hosts were friendly and responded swiftly to questions and problems. However for us in our late 70’s we were concerned about safety issues. The main entrance was tricky to manoeuvre with a concrete channel and steps. The sole bathroom with the only toilet was a passage from one of the bedrooms, and had no lock. A lock on the bathroom door and a shower faucet with a spray arm and easier to turn, would be really helpful. More than anything we were concerned that if there were a fire, the exit from one bedroom would be through the bathroom, the hall, the kitchen and finally the screen porch, and across the hard to navigate entry door.

Perfect weekend getaway

This cottage is a cute vrbo. It was perfect for my family of 5 which 2 are adults. The pond was perfect for fishing and caught some bass. Its location is absolutely beautiful unfortunately it rained a lot so we werent able to do many of the things we planned. All of the property owners was so nice and so friendly as they all made an effort to meet us and chit chat. Overall had a great experience here and would definitely stay here again.

The pictures do not do this place justice. It is very clean, has cute decor, and the outside was just as serene. The hostess, Sarah, was incredibly attentive, understanding, and kind.

About the host

Host profile image
My father-in-law purchased this farm in 1978 where he and wife, Margaret raised my husband and his brother. Margaret and Tony still reside in the large farmhouse which is located just a short distance from the property. My husband, myself and our three children live “over the pond and through the woods” from the cottage. As the more tech savvy one between the two of us, I manage the online reservations while Tony typically enjoys being hands-on with anything that’s needed during your stay. Feel free to contact either of us! We always love to get to know our visitors!

Why they chose this property

The farm was once a full working dairy farm, dating over 200 years old. Up until last year, we have rented this cottage as a long-term rental. We are pleased to now offer the cottage as short-term rental where visitors to the area can enjoy a home such as ours.

What makes this property unique

The peacefulness that our property brings is something you can't find many other places. As you swing under our pergola or sit around the fire pit and listen to the sounds around you, one can imagine what the farm would have looked like so many years ago. We are a history lover's dream!
