About this property

Private, Pet-Friendly Cabin with Wraparound Balcony, Breathtaking Views & Hot Tu

Lose yourself in the luxury of Sunset Lodge! This three-bedroom mountain cabin sleeps six people (plus your pet!) and is packed with amenities, including an outdoor hot tub, pool table, private jetted tub, three primary suites and two comfortably furnished decks from which you can enjoy the beauty of the surrounding woodlands. Plus, it’s not far from the many attractions of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge!

The moment you step inside Sunset Lodge, the main level’s lustrous wood walls, beamed ceiling and stone-surround fireplace will enchant you. Abundant and comfortable seating along with a large flat-screen 46-inch HDTV with cable make the great room a delightful place to spend time with family or friends, whether you’re watching a movie on the DVD player after a day of skiing or just having a chat by the fire while enjoying a cup of cocoa or a glass of wine.

Flowing seamlessly from the great room so no one’s ever far from the action, Sunset Lodge’s dining area is a great place to connect over a family meal or a lively board game while sitting at the six-seat farmhouse table. Enjoy the view through the sliding glass doors as you linger over a cup of coffee! Just a few steps away is the casual and complete corner kitchen. It has everything you need to prepare as simple or as lavish a meal as you could wish, including a stainless-steel oven and stove, refrigerator/freezer and microwave. The drawers and cabinets are well supplied with all the cookware, dishes, utensils and prep tools you’ll need. A dishwasher makes post-meal cleanup a breeze, and all the extras – from a toaster to a coffeemaker – are there. Tucked into a cozy corner nearby, a charming writing desk is a perfect spot to dash off a few postcards or take advantage of the free Wi-Fi to plan the day’s activities on your tablet or laptop.

Too warm to fire up the stove? If you don’t feel like putting on the AC, flip on the ceiling fans and fire up the gas grill instead! Sunset Lodge’s two roomy, covered decks are ideal places to enjoy the fresh mountain air any time of the day or night. Dine “out” at the roomy patio table or relax in one of the comfortable cushioned chairs and take in the view. You can also grab a glass of wine and recline in the hot tub after a busy day of hiking in Smoky Mountain National Park!

Why have one primary bedroom when you can have three? Sunset Lodge has a primary bedroom on the main level, plus two upstairs. All three bedrooms include a luxurious king-size bed with Sleep Number/TempurPedic mattress, soothing ceiling fan, and en-suite bathroom. The primary on the main also features a TV and jetted tub, perfect for some private pampering!

Feel like a friendly game of pool? A billiard table in the loft offers opportunity for hours of diversion. If the match gets especially exciting, other members of your party can use the comfortable seating to cheer on the contestants in comfort.

Sunset Lodge is as much about convenience as it is about comfort. Fresh linens and towels are provided for all the bathrooms and beds so you can maximize your suitcase space. And if you do find yourself needing clean clothing, not to worry – a handy closet hides a stacking washer and dryer you can use to refresh your wardrobe whenever you want.Important notice: The entrance driveway to Sunset Lodge has a steep incline. Get away

The cabin was really cozy. The ambience was nice but it made it extremely hard to see ! No lighting under deck . When walking my dog 3 bears were on me before I even saw them. Cabin needs more lights everywhere because of area. I do believe the septic needs emptied, had to call a couple times on that. Dishwasher had to be serviced. When called the service was quick to respond.

Bad Trip

We normally visit the Smokies about 3 times per year and mostly stay in cabins. This was my worst experience with a cabin. The roads getting to the cabin were horrible, the clothes dryer didn’t work and was fixed until the evening before we left, the tv in the living room didn’t work and never was fixed during our stay, the showers in the upstairs bedrooms are so small you can’t even turn around in them. Will not stay in this cabin again.

Drove 5.5 hours

We got to the property and there was no water. The tech came out to inform me they have had calls all day with the same problem. I would have much rather gotten a courtesy call or text. Hopefully this problem will be retified immediately.

Too hot upstairs

The house was great because it had three king-size beds; however, the air conditioner setting cooled the upstairs at about 10 degrees higher than the upstairs, so sleeping downstairs with the temp at 70 degrees made the upstairs unbearably hot at 80 degrees. Unfortunately, the overhead fans were noisy, so that didn't help. Also, there was a dead animal smell under the back porch; which meant it was impossible to sit outside there. Otherwise, everything was clean and comfortable.

Beware

Cabin was cute but the two bedrooms upstairs showers were so small my 11-year-old grandson could not even bathe in them and master bedroom has only whirlpool tub so all the whole family only had one shower to bathe in the whole week. Strong arctic storm came in and had to leave two days early because of the roads being so steep and curved with no guard rails that we would have slid off the side of the mountain and Jackson mountain homes would not refund one dime and I think they should’ve at least halved it with us since it was act of God because it was neither one of our faults but they do not.

Look around before picking this property

We had some major problems with our truck as we headed up the mountain to look for the cabin. We had some time to kill before we could check into Sunset Lodge so we decided to find the cabin then go walk around Gatlinburg before settling into our stay. Our CV axel went out right at the driveway of the cabin so we asked Olivia from Jackson mountain homes if we could check in early because we had an emergency & she said housekeeping wasn’t finished with the cleaning but she would check & call us back. We were parked in the driveway waiting for the code to get in & Olivia never called. We waited in front of the cabin for 2 hours & housekeeping never came back. She lied to us. We offered to pay if we could get in early & nothing. Finally 10 minutes before our check in time we called back & Olivia said she meant to call us back & forgot. The property was ok. We are paying to stay here so you would think it would be well stocked. There was very limited dishes & utensils. 1 small 8 inch skillet, no microwaveable bowls, no cookie sheets, the only can opener was awful barely opening cans. They were roaches in the kitchen, the hot tub was set for 72 so when we finally got in the cabin we raised the temp to 104 but it took an hour to raise it 1 degree so we couldn’t enjoy the hot tub till the next morning. The bathrooms in the loft are very small for adults. The master bathroom does not have a shower so you have to walk to the other side of the cabin thru the living room to shower. On our last full day it snowed & the driveway is steep so we call the office to see about someone coming to salt it & she told us their priority was for the people leaving that morning but someone would be out but no one showed up so we took the lids from our totes to scrape the driveway so we could leave. I would definitely look around because there are hundreds of cabins in the area & Jackson Mountain Homes is not a company you can depend on.

Sunset Lodge Review

First, the property is located in a remote, hilly area. The drive up to the area is quite curvy & at spots narrow, but I assume this is the "norm" for the area. After once or twice to & from the cabin you get used to it. We drove 12 straight hours to get to this rental, so we were tired & looking to get unpacked when we got there. We had been given our check-in information ahead of time which was nice. However, we could not get the door lock access code to work upon arrival, & after about 45 - 60 minutes of calling, on-hold time, & eventually speaking to a representative (who WAS trying to be helpful), we were finally able to get into the cabin. This process was very frustrating. The cabin itself is OK. Beds are comfortable, it's nice to have king-sized beds & en-suite bathrooms for each bedroom. However, one of the upstairs showers had been dripping for probably several hours (cleaning crew?), & the bathroom floor was quite wet & we needed to wipe that all up. The 1st floor bathroom faucets (2 total) ran at a SLOW trickle. It would have probably taken 15 minutes to fill a gallon of water if necessary. This was also very frustrating. All others seemed to work correctly. It wasn't until the 3rd day when I did some investigating...I took off the screens where the water comes out of the faucet & they were completely clogged with rust. Once I rinsed off the rust & put back together, the faucets worked great! I'm not sure why the faucet in the kitchen sink has the spout that it does...but do NOT turn on at full speed, water will splash everywhere. It comes out like a low-pressure power washer. Someone should consider changing that out to something less than a "blast" setting. The cabin needs a thorough spring cleaning. There was dust / cobwebs hanging from light fixtures, in corners, & on top of high furniture. The bathroom floor rugs really should be replaced; they're stained & looked dirty (although they may have been clean, they appeared dirty...shouldn't be this way). We washed all dishes in the dishwasher b/4 use just to ensure they were clean. They could use a few more plates, bowls, glasses, & pots. Also, we searched high & low, but could not find a simple spatula (for like flipping burgers / eggs), the owners may want to consider getting one or two. Overall, the cabin was comfortable & in generally good condition. The hot tub was refreshing. Place just needs a little TLC to bring it to the next level. We did enjoy our time in the area.

It was cancelled last minute through the owners

This trip was a surprise engagement for our good friend. We already half way up to Tennessee (less than two hours away) when they called to cancel, due to A rodent infestation. Couldn’t rebook me, said everything was full. All they could was give me refund. I had to pull over on the side of the road calling every cabin rental company I knew and looked at every site possible. Luckily I left my phone number with cabin company to call me back with any last minute cancellations, by the grace of God someone called me back from a different company. I would avoid this company if you can.

Had a good time! Pretty and cozy property!

I stayed at this property with my husband, my 8year old, my mother in law and father in law as well as my Bassett hound. We all enjoyed this cabin. All the bedrooms have kind size beds, the bathrooms upstairs are very small. Specifically the toilets. My 8year old would barely clear her knees on the commode. The showers upstairs are very small but we were able to shower up there. It wasn’t a great big deal to us. We just all mainly used the bathroom downstairs. Kitchen had pots and pans, coffee mugs and utensils. It took us a day to figure out the WiFi because there was no network as Sunset Lodge which is what was in the instructions but the WiFi information is on the back of the modem located on top of the armoire in the downstairs bedroom. The road to get to this cabin felt like driving on a mountain switchback. Definitely made us plan our day to where we wouldn’t be going back and forth, running out to grab something. I suppose that’s the experience of staying in the mountains. Again, we enjoyed our stay and hope you do too.

Cabin Review

First, we had some issues and called upon arrival and was told that the expectation for a call back to discuss issues was 5 to 7 days and we never received a call back after 8 days. This alone, is simply unacceptable. The cabin description list TVs in all bedrooms, only TV in a bedroom was in the master bedroom, and also in the living room. Yet, you can see where there were TVs hanging at one point in time in the other two bedrooms. The TVs use streaming and did not have the channel, CBS, our stay was over the NCAA Final Four and we had to watched from our cell phone. The description of the cabin list a gas grill and even posted a picture of the grill, there was no gas grill and only a small grill that looked like small rack, my brother in law was planning on grilling one day and we purchased food to do so, only unable to grill. The property had several roaches and ants. I purchased Raid to spray the kitchen, yet still continue to see both ants and roaches after spraying. The two upstairs bathrooms are made for small children, as adults, we had to sit sideways on the toliet. Overall just a very unfortunate experience!

Needs attention to detail

Location and the overal cabin were great. Having 3 king beds and 4 bathrooms for 3 adult couples was great, however there are some things about this property that aren’t apparent from the photos or listing you should know. The 2 upstairs bathrooms are almost unusable for an average size adult male due to roof line and a strange built in box in front of the toilet. Master bedroom has no water pressure Kitchen sink either has way to much pressure or is missing a piece to the faucet head The grill is a charcoal one like you’d find in a state park hard to cook for multiple people on it There in no shower in the master bedroom just a bath, but there is a shower off the living room that can be used on the first floor The oven is off the wall in the kitchen, but seems to function properly There are only 6 towers so if you plan on using the hot tub and showering bring extras. We left 4 new towels we purchased in town hopefully the owners will wash and put them out for future guests

Needs improvements

The cabin looks as described but needs some serious attention to be a comfortable stay. The hot was broken up one arrival. It was “fixed” the next day but then wasn’t warm until that night and we were leaving the following morning. It broke again that night and wouldn’t heat properly. I had to call the office three times to get someone out to the property. The entire back area of the property is covered in trash. Looked like a dumpster was turned over. We had a roach crawling on our lovely breakfast I just cooked. Turned around to grab silverware and there he was. He crawled back behind the oven which is poorly installed and moves at the slightest touch. A knob in the oven also fell off while I was using it. You can barely cook in the kitchen. Not even salt and pepper available. Not a single dishwashing tab. No coffee filters. Nothing. The cabin is bare bones. The upstairs shower dripped the whole weekend. The bathrooms are so tight and poorly laid out that 3 of 4 of the guests couldn’t even sit on the toilet without being sideways. Seriously ridiculous. Whoever owns this property clearly has never stayed there. We will not be retuning to any property owned by the Jackson mountain homes again.

Not a great stay

overall the listing on vrbo was very inaccurate. its listed that all 3 rooms have tvs. in fact the only rooms that have them are the down stairs master and the living room both upstairs have hookups for them but no tvs. The water in the house ran brown which caused all of us to not want to take a shower. no insulation between rooms and lack of privacy while in rooms had everyone uneasy. nasty black specks coming out of the jets in the jetted tub in the master caused us all to not want to take a bath there which was one of the main points of staying here. The board game set was missing almost half of the pieces required to play. the hot tub was low on water and had all kinds of pine needles and leaves floating on top of the water as well as a film coating the liner the icemaker in the fridge didn't work, the gas fireplace didn't work and the listed grill wasn't much of one and was also very nasty, Front and back porch were nasty and the chairs on the front porch had ripped cushions and the back yard was very overgrown with about 2-3ft which gave us nowhere to walk the dogs we had brought with us at a risk of poison ivy. And in the upstairs rooms you couldn't use the toilet without sitting sideways. We had to go out and get trash bags and cleaning supplies and ice because of the brown water because nothing was supplied. After getting back home to Nashville we looked on the website for the property and it said this cabin wasn't available for stays until mid June and by the looks like of the decorations inside the last time someone stayed there was around halloween or christmas with spiderwebs everywhere and a ton of dog hair on the rug under the pool table upstairs. In no way did we feel like this cabin in the current state should of been listed and rented. Not being able to take a shower or bath in clean water as well as the lack of privacy really ruined the trip for all of us, and as stated we chose this property for the amenities ie. hot tub and jetted bath tub which both of them were disgusting.
