About this property

Grade 11* listed historic home close to Burghley & shops.

The house is in a prime location right in the oldest part of Stamford a stone's throw from the centre. Opposite the house is a green with mature trees to look out on and the town Meadows are literally a few minutes walk away.
The house has been set up with a focus on your comfort (Egyptian cotton sheets, snuggly White Company throws for all beds), a large velvet sofa in the lounge for relaxation with all the essentials such as Wi-fi, 2 x TV's (including Netflix & Iplayer etc)

The kitchen is in the basement & is newly fitted in July 2022. It has a washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher, microwave etc along with all you need should you wish to stay at home to cook a meal. There is a Sage coffee machine for a freshly ground cuppa & an instant hot water tap for your hot drinks/cooking convenience.

The house is on 4 floors with the master bedroom & bathroom on the top floor. The master bedroom can be configured with a double bed or 2 singles so let me know your preference once booked. There is a TV in this room too so works well if you have children who are old enough to have their own space, leaving you to use the 1st floor with 2 bedrooms, a separate toilet and the main lounge/TV all on the same floor. The first floor has a large double bedroom with a King size bed and there is a smaller room which has a queen size bed.

The house is a period cottage (c.1600) so its features are its character but also come with some limitations such as some of the ceilings are low in places (but certainly not throughout). The stairs to the top floor would not be suitable for the infirm, elderly or young children who are unsteady on their feet.
Its location could not be more ideal if you want to walk in to restaurants, cafes, bars etc & also for the Town Meadows & Burghley Park. Rutland Water is a short drive away for nature, water sports & its bird sanctuaries.

Excellent!

We visited Stamford from the US with my father, who is almost 80, as well as my sister and our children (ranging from 1-15) because my father had gone to boarding school there and we were on a memory lane trip. The house was excellent - fabulous old charm in the house, but all had been renovated so the kitchen and bathrooms and such were new. The location was perfect and the beds were comfortable!

Great Location and Lots of character

This medieval house was really cute. Does come with the quirks of an older house (creaky stairs, small rooms) but that adds to the charm. Host was very helpful throughout our stay and on arrival had items in fridge (milk/butter/jam) and some pastries along w/ a bottle of wine. location is perfect for wandering around Stamford and a quick 5min walk from Train station so very doable w/ luggage

Period Home with Character in Old Town

We had a wonderful time in this historic home in a great location. It was perfect for sightseeing in town, picnics in the Town Meadows and hiking along the river, and walking distance to shopping, theater, great local pubs and restaurants. Enjoyed our visit to Burghley House and Gardens as well. Our host was very thoughtful - providing a lovely set of welcome food and drinks, proactively going out of their way to get fans set up during a warm spell, and arranging off street parking. We loved our stay!

Hi. I'm Sam & am your host for No.6. I fell in love with Stamford on my first visit here when I moved to this part of the country in 2005.

Why they chose this property

I noticed this house a long time before the opportunity came to buy it. It is very unique & I always see visitors to our town stopping to look at it & to take a photo! It features in many of the photos of the old town & dates back to the 1600's (& likely earlier) as one of the original stone houses. Hence it is a Grade 11* listed building (of which there are only 5% in the UK). To have the opportunity to stay in such an historic building is part of its charm. Old Stamford properties do lean a little & have lower ceilings in places as we do seem to have got a lot taller as the centuries have rolled on!
