Douro Valley

The property is in a most beautiful location with stunning views over the Douro Valley. It has outstanding outdoor areas for use - swimming pool, poolside lounges, gazebo area and grassed areas between trees, hammock etc. Really stunning location. The car parking is tricky if there are a number of guests with vehicles but the host is wonderful and very accommodating and speaks Portuguese and German fluently. The location (Resende) is the only real downside if you want to visit other places using this as a base because the roads are winding, slow and exhausting to drive. If you're looking for somewhere to relax for a few days, this place is going to be difficult to beat. We stayed in the self-catering apartment which is spacious, has a lovely balcony and super facilities. A couple of challenges were that the WiFi was a little intermittent (a problem solved by a quick word with the host) and the more general Portuguese problem with self-catering (in our experience) insofar as the kitchen is brilliant but there is a lack of kitchen equipment to self-cater (again a problem solved by a quick word with the host). We stayed five days and managed one day visit to Lamego (which was tiring because of the drive) and tried to look around the local area though there was little of interest to visit. The other four days we relaxed, read books and were royally treated by the host! Wonderful...
