About this property

1 Drayton Villas 1 Drayton Villas Downstairs Apartment

Comfortable refurbished apartment ideally positioned to combine the charm of a rural English village with access to the coast. The Victorian building has been totally modernised. The downstairs apartment consists of a double bedroom, spacious living room including sofa bed, separate fully-fitted kitchen and bathroom with shower and bath. The living room contains a period fireplace but there is gas central heating throughout. A cot, high chair and extra single bed are available if required. Downstairs has a small, sheltered garden with garden furniture and BBQ. The apartment is on the level except that there is a small step down into the garden to enter the property, a small step at the threshold and two steeper steps up to the patio area in the garden. Parking outside and on the Green is free but a car is not essential for access to local amenities and beaches. It has WIFI. The adjoining upstairs apartment may be rented at a discount for those who wish to holiday with family or friends.

Emergency home from home

It was lovely to use this cosy cottage while a flood made our own home unusable. So thankful for it and thoroughly enjoyed walking in the area.

Perfect base to explore IOW

Perfect location for a stroll to the beach, crabbing or fishing. Easy to navigate the island and nothing is too far away to get to. Tesco is close by to get essentials. Lovely apartment with everything needed for your stay. Only thing which we would say is a larger fridge freezer is needed for a family of 4 this is not big enough. We visited the needles, haven sanctuary, Ryde, Sandown, Shanklin beaches were stunning. Wouldn’t bother with Cowes unless you like yachts. Newport was nearby which was useful for high street shops. Communication was excellent with the owner and she was very helpful.

Good, comfortable accommodation. Great location.

We had a great week, our 4 year old had the bedroom and we had the sofa bed. We were able to get into the property by midday which was a bonus. My only criticism would the size of the fridge, too small for food and wine together! Highly recommend the open top bus, it’s great for getting your bearings and seeing the beautiful countryside. Recommended, thank you.

Telling it like it is - Great location, minor niggles.

We enjoyed our stay in the St Helens area of the Isle of Wight, the property is in a nice location near the green, everything you will need is available in the local shop/post office, the Vine Inn does great food & there are several restaurants in the area. The ground floor flat was clean & tidy & met our needs for our short stay, the information supplied, concerning directions & access were very good. However, a couple of minor details need addressing in our opinion, we expected to make up the sofa bed & this was no problem, but the fact that we had to make up the main bed upon arrival was unexpected, we have stayed in a lot of holiday lets over many years & never had to make up beds, in addition to this, the main front bedroom had a damp problem, the musty smell was not very inviting. A welcome pack would also be a nice addition, even as an extra cost option, in our experience we have found most places include this within the cost. With these minor details sorted the property would be much better & make any guest feel more welcome.

Amazing value for money; fantastic location!

My husband and I and our two children (3.5yrs and 7.5yrs) stayed at ground floor flat Drayton Villas over the May half term holiday. The location of the accommodation really made our stay something special. The village of St Helen's is such a lovely quaint town where one relaxes immediately. There is a lovely restaurant at the end of the road, a little village shop a few minutes away that has most of the basics one would want and there is a friendly village pub too. The kids were easily entertained by the two playgrounds at either end of the road; the harbour at the end of the street about 3 minutes away and the beach which is about a 10 minute walk if that. The children were constantly outside, crabbing, running, exploring, swimming, body boarding; it is a great escape and makes for a wonderful holiday. The accommodation itself was clean; the kitchen modern and well equipped, the shower was great and my husband wants me to mention specifically that the broadband was great (super fast broadband). The children had the double bed and slept well each night and we slept on the pull out sofa bed in the living room which was very comfortable. Thanks Angela for a great and replenishing stay. We will be back!

My husband and I are parents of four and the lucky grandparents of four children. The whole family love to come down either together or separately.

Why they chose this property

My husband and I fell in love with the Isle of Wight because it is easy to get away from it from the mainland and we always feel refreshed after experiencing the peace and quiet and fresh air. This property is particularly relaxing as it is situated on a quiet residential street with easy access to the sea. Visits to the beach or lovely coastal walks can begin literally at the front door.
It's a perfect place to get away from it all, but if you feel like a bit more company there are also beach and marina cafes as well as the pub, restaurant and delicatessen on the Green.
If you are are looking for night life St Helens is probably not the spot for you unless you visit during festival time and use the free bus back in the early hours, or are prepared to travel a little way to Sandown or Ryde.
For larger groups of family or friends the upstairs apartment can be rented at the same time.

What makes this property unique

The property is ideally positioned to benefit from an old fashioned English country village at the top of the road and access to the sea if you take a short walk down the hill.
Despite its olde worlde appearance St Helens Green has everything you need : a well-stocked village shop/post office, bus stop, pub, children's play area, two excellent restaurants, village cricket matches, Sunday car boot sale in summer....the list goes on. But if you feel like a change of scene the isle of Wight offers an amazing range of activities, historical sites and attractions all of which can be accessed on a day trip by car or bus. It is perfect for a traditional seaside holiday or all the year round for walking and sight-seeing.
