Exquisite property and stay

We stayed at Villa Borgo di Sopra for one week during winter, and we were beyond happy with our choice for many reasons. The villa and surrounding property itself were extraordinary—every detail had been lovingly restored and given precise attention. This property could easily pass for a 4+-star resort. Jane and Gianpiero were wonderful hosts, always ready to answer a question, make a reservation, make sure we were comfortable, and give advice on sightseeing. Arriving at night, we found the directions to the villa accurate, and Jane was there to shepherd us through the last turn in the road as we pulled into the villa. After a busy week in Rome, we enjoyed mixing sightseeing with relaxing. The villa proved a place where you could rest and recharge (and play), or keep busy every day with activities in the region. For couples, this property is especially romantic. We stayed in to enjoy our most favorite elements: the roaring fireplace, spacious dining room for meals "at home", and Jane and Gianpiero's pets, Peggy Guggenheim and Jasmine, who visited with us in our living room and even slept with us a couple of nights. As animal lovers, what a comfort and joy as we missed our furbabies from back home! Even though it was January, there were several days when it was warm enough to sit outside in the sun and read a book at one of the outdoor sitting/dining areas. There were picturesque views of the Tuscan countryside from nearly every window. The photos of the villa are incredibly accurate, but even more beautiful in person. The beds are very comfortable and the linens seemingly brand-new. If we had one issue, it was that the hot water in the second bathroom was difficult to control, so showers were either scalding hot or freezing cold, but that wouldn't be an issue with taking a bath, and it was our fault for never asking for advice. We had rented a car and were just 40-minutes from Florence and an hour+ from Pisa. We enjoyed exploring the little villages and ancient towns in the surrounding hills. Within a couple miles of the villa is a wonderland of reasons to get lost on purpose. We genuinely loved every moment of our stay and are trying to figure out how to return! Thank you so much Jane, Gianpiero, Peggy and Jasmine!

Dreaming in Tuscany

After navigating the roads out of Florence, we came to the base of the tiny, bumpy and winding “road” that takes you to the house. That in itself is an adventure! But the views! And then to arrive to see the smiling face of Jane :). The home was comfortable, well set up and great for the four of us. Jane had done a small grocery shop for us ahead of time which was much appreciated and all needed directions were easily to hand. We loved eating at the recommended restaurant in Rufino and had a great time during the winery tour up at the castle. Well worth the visit. Walks around the house were enjoyed immensely, and day trips from the train station to Pisa, Florence or beyond were easily navigated. A lovely experience overall Oh a piece of advise when driving: enter into Google maps “dino pieracciono” when returning back to the house from anywhere you drive, and that will take you to the base of the small road leading up to it.

Un piccolo angolo di paradiso Toscano/A little slice of Tuscan heaven

Words seem inadequate in describing our stay at Borgo di Sopra. Everything about our stay was perfect. Jane and Gianpiero were incredibly kind and gracious hosts who did more than we could have expected to make our stay as wonderful as it was. The setting is classic Tuscany with incredible views of the grapevines and olive groves. It is an easy 25-minute train ride into Firenze, but the amount of peace and quiet we had out in the vineyards was a perfect respite from the hot and crowded city. We loved our al fresco meals under the pergola surrounded by lavender and rosemary. On our way in, we realized we would like to eat dinner before arriving at the property, and Jane made reservations for us at a wonderful restaurant nearby. Moreover, they booked a tour at the Frescobaldi winery that is located just up the hill. Gianpiero told a wonderful history of the property (going back more than four centuries), and it was clear a lot of time and love went into the restoration of the property. There was an incredible amount of information provided regarding train schedules, parking, restaurants, etc. that eliminated a lot of guess work and allowed us to enjoy every minute we had in Tuscany. Jane and Gianpiero’s help and knowledge made our stay in Tuscany truly unforgettable. Our only lament was that we had to leave. We look forward to visiting Borgo di Sopra again!

A wonderful 10 days!

The property is even more beautiful than pictured. The landscaping was lovely... and that view! We loved meeting Jane and Gianpiero! They were such wonderful hosts, so warm and welcoming! Jane went grocery shopping for us before we arrived; it was nice to be able to settle in as soon as we got there and not have to worry about shopping. My kids loved playing with their dog and cat. It was an unexpected surprise (they also enjoyed Jane and Gianpiero:)) Pontassieve is just a 5 minute drive from the property, and from there you can easily catch a train to Florence. We enjoyed our stay, and I hope we can return one day!

A hidden gem - beautiful, peaceful, rustic!

If you are dreaming of a beautiful farmhouse in Tuscany, but you want all the modern amenities, this is probably for you. The owners purchased an old watchtower that had seen better days (dates back to the 1500’s), and with amazing vision, investment and attention to detail, created a number of units to meet the needs of different travelers. We stayed in “Antica” which sleeps five very comfortably. It’s in an area that’s not traditionally a tourist area, so you won’t be fighting the crowds. But it is just a short train ride to Firenze, and 1-2 hour drive to places like Siena, Ravenna, San Gimignano, Assisi, etc. The access road goes through fields of grape vines from a nearby winery that you can walk up the hill and visit. Jane was very helpful before and during our stay, making sure we had all the info we needed to find it, and offering restaurant suggestions (and booking tables for us). The terraces are nicely furnished and shaded so you comfortably sit outside, smell the jasmine and enjoy the view whether for your morning cup of coffee or a glass of wine in the evening. At night, you can hear the nightingales...So peaceful!

Heavenly, welcoming, peaceful and reviving

We were delighted in every way with the stunning location surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, the friendly helpful welcome from the lovely owners with tips on local area and even offering to shop for us in advance if we chose. Thank you so much for our glorious stay, the 3 bed house was so comfortable with delicious views everywhere. Pontesieve is an easy drive down the track and we found it very convenient for Florence but also exploring the Casentino hills, don't miss Poppi! Thank you and we shall return!! Very much recommend.

Nicely restored property with a wonderful view - a good base for going to Florence

We have enjoyed a week at Borgo di Sopra, a perfect location uphill overlooking the wine yards and the Tuscan landscape. It is at very nicely restored defense tower originally belonging to the wine yard castle on top of the hill. It has all modern facilities but with the respect for the local architecture which makes it very authentic. There are very nice terraces to all flats that are quite private. There are no tourists in the area and the road is a dead end meaning no disturbances at all. The road description looks a little complicated at first, but is very accurate and easy to find your way. You can choose to stay or use it for a base for going to Florence (very easy by train) or by car to several interesting cities including Siena. After a day trip to the cities it is a very quiet and peaceful place to rest. Daily shopping is easy at COOP in the local city Pontassieve, and there is also a highly recommendable ice-cream bar in the city. The host family is pleasant and helpful in the amount you need, with advice for tours and traffic or other practical issues. We give our full recommendations for both location, facilities and hosts.

Beautiful setting and property!

The setting and the property were beautiful! Even better than the photographs. All the previous reviews were spot on! It was spotlessly clean with nice bed linen and towels. The owners were lovely, there on hand if you needed any help or advice but did not impose in any way. Jasmine and Peggy (dog and cat!) were a big hit! So cute! There is a very good book provided by the owners with local restaurants etc. We ate at a few but I can't remember the names. The is a really cute gelateria in San Francesco called Sottani. It is really nice. Unfortunately we weren't able to do the wine tour at Nippozano as they were very busy at that time. However we did have some wine from the wine store there and it was delicious! Book this early if you are interested. We would highly recommend this property.

Truly the best gîte we have ever rented

The Borgo di Sopra villas were a centuries-old watch tower that had been tastely refurbished with modern amenities. Clean, spacious and comfortable, yet with the touch and feel of the Old Europe. The property was on a beautifully maintained huge outdoor space half way on top of a hill. The land was adorned with flowering plants, including furiously blooming lavenders with hovering bees, butterflies and Italian moths, 30ft wild walnut trees with eagerly awaiting squirrels, and outdoor sheltered sitting areas to enjoy the view. The view was magnificent: the property overlooked the valley of the river of Arno that constituted a tranquil Tuscan picture of to-the-horizon vineyards, olive groves and a red-roof small town. On top of the hill was a castle of a world-famous Chianti family who offered a most memorable wine tour. The hill had many long foot-paths so bring hiking shoes. The property was a short 20 minutes train ride to Florence and a 40 minutes drive to Siena. Florence offered great museums of renaissance art and never ending shopping opportunities and Siena a more subdued but colorful medieval Italian city-state experience. The hosts were super friendly and helpful. They arranged for us a wine tour, restaurant reservations (talk about sumptuous slow Italian foods) and suggested attractions that only locals would know. We're especially in-debt for their care in a medical emergency. We would not hesitate to recommend this property to all and we will surely go back to it ourselves.

A scene from the movies

After reviewing many locations to stay at, we determined that Borgo di Sopra was just what we were looking for. My wife, myself, our adult son, our adult daughter and our son-in –law arrived to be greeted by our gracious hosts, Jane and Giampiero. Their home was everything we dreamed of. It gave five adults plenty of individual space yet it was a wonderful family center. The location, the views and the accommodations were simply wonderful. It was idyllic. It was easy access to Florence either by local train or by car (which is really a must) and Siena. The wines of the region are fabulous. I encourage you to taste them all at local wine tours. Giampiero made some excellent restaurant suggestions for both Siena and locally. We tried both and his recommendations hit the mark both times. The walk up to the castle was easy and both the castle and the views from it were superb. My daughter summed it up best when she declared that the family must return in five years to Borgo di Sopra again for it gave us wonderful memories.

Great Toskana Experience! Thank you!

Wonderfully refurbished neat and well-kept place! Cosy an tastefull interior and very well equipped facilities. Nice, well working kitchen with large fridge, spacy livingroom and three (!) patios to choose from. Great view. Take your time to enjoy the place, the views and the walks in the hills! For great advice on eating out and wine talk to the landlords, dear Giampiero and Jane. Jane will prebook Florence museums for you so you can avoid queues. Parking is convenient under some trees so your car stays reasonably cool even in summer. As it is very hot in the summer, Cipresso is equipped with very thick historical walls and Antica has air-conditioning. Ventilators in every room. Children are happy here watching the squirrels and can feel appreciated as the landlords are child-friendly. Ours did't even miss German TV as there is an DVD Player. Pontassieve might not be the most picturesque town in all of Tuscany, but there is a great icecream parlour and an x-large supermarket full of friendly personel and mouth-watering food. Florence is close - drive to Piazzale Michelangelo for free parking an take a cab to the Ponte Veccio or take the train into town. Don't miss Poppi and the mountains, especially Vallimbrosa! One last thing: Be sure to bring ointment for misquito-itch and repellent.

Toskana pur!

Innenausstattung ist super, alles da, was man braucht, inkl. Waschmaschine.

MOST MEMORABLE FOUR NIGHTS AT THIS VILLA

OUR HOST JANE WAS ONE OF THE MOST WONDERFUL HOSTS AND SHE LOOKED AFTER EACH AND EVERY DETAIL OF THE HOUSE AND OUR STAY. WE WERE TWO COUPLES (SIXTY PLUS) AND HAD THE THREE BEDROOM + THREE BATHROOM HOUSE FROM HER BUT WE WOULD GIVE FULL MARKS TO BOTH HUSBAND AND WIFE WHO WERE SO CONCERNED ABOUT OUR COMFORT AND WELFARE. WOULD LIKE TO RECOMMEND THIS PRORTY TO EVERYONE WHOM WE KNOW BUT CAR IS ESSENTIAL BECAUSE IT IS FAR FROM THE MAIN TOWN BUT EXTREMELY PEACEFUL AND BEAUTIFUL. ARVIND

Borgo di Sopra - Vista

My husband and I stayed in Vista at Borgo di Sopra. It was absolutely wonderful!!! The location was perfect for day trips to Pisa, Lucca, Siena, Arrezo and Florence. It was lovely to sit on the terrace in the evening, after a long day of site seeing, with a great glass of wine from the winery located in the castle above the property. The castle was a 15 - 20 minute walk up the hill and the views were magnificant! When I go back to Tuscany I will definitely stay here again. I would recommend it highly to anyone who wants to see Tuscany and relax at the same time.

Honeymoon Heaven!

The pictures do not do it justice... we thought that it would be nice but never has beautiful, serene and breathtaking as the property was. First, let me say that this location is the idyllic because of Jane, Giampiero, Vita and of course Peggy! From having groceries for us when we arrived from our long trip, to a book of helpful hints & info to fantastic conversation sets this place aside from any other. Jane & Giampiero are so dedicated to making your stay as fulfilling as you would like it and make sure that they try to do anything along the way to help you. Antica was beautiful with plenty of space to spread out. The apartment blended the qualities of the original tower with the luxuries we all love in life. Every need you could imagine was there so you never need to worry about forgetting something. Pontassieve & Pelago were wonderful to visits and walk around - the local businesses were lovely. Highly recommend Sottani (Thanks Jane for the tip!), Far West for Pizza, etc. The train system was easy to navigate and everything is easily accessible to make day trips if you please to Arezzo, Venice, Florence, etc. Our honeymoon was perfect - couldn't have imagined going anywhere else! Thank-you Jane, Giampero, Vita & Peggy for making it unforgettable!

I live at Borgo di Sopra with my family. I am English and my husband is Italian with a lifetime's knowledge of Tuscany.
We have been welcoming guests since 2008 and are Premium Partners of VRBO.
Times have changed but we have always worked to make our guests feel at home here. Nowadays that means a particular attention to health safety,
I personally oversee the housekeeping, with attentive cleaning in the 48 hour window between every rental. We use professionally laundered linens.
We are happy to share our local knowledge with you and help you get the most out of your stay in this part of Italy.

Why they chose this property

Borgo di Sopra is a great escape. Isolated but not remote.
You truly feel away from it all. You are in the midst of nature in a place of enormous beauty. There is lots of wildlife here, from deer to pheasants, hares, porcupines and all sorts of birdlife.
Our 3 apartments have great views onto the vineyards of the Castello di Nipozzano. Each apartment has its own front door and outside terrace for personal use.
The property is reached by a private farmroad. You are off the beaten track!
But the town of Pontassieve is less than 10 minutes by car with a large supermarket and train station.

What makes this property unique

At Borgo you can walk uphill to the lovely Castello di Nipozzano. There has been a castle here since 1000, and you can understand why. The position dominates the surrounding countryside. But there is also a handsome Villa from the 1700s. Its aristocratic elegance charms and intrigues you. The wines here are impressive and on sale in the winestore.
