"Loon Landing" is a quaint private cottage with 200 feet on Great Pond. Swim, kayak, fish or just relax. Acadia park and Bar Harbor just a 30 minute drive. As well, Schoodic Point is also a 30 minute drive. The recreational Sunrise Trail is 1 mile away.
My place is good for couples.
Built in 2011 with post and beam construction. The cottage is very privately situated in the woods with a large deck looking out on the lake.

The cottage is secluded on a beautiful lake, and we did hear loons! It was a great location for our hiking trips to nearby public lands as well as Acadia and Cutler. It’s well equipped, and the heater is great for chilly mornings. We wanted a getaway as our base and happy with our choice. The hosts let us in a bit early and were very responsive with questions. Ellsworth isn’t far if you want to shop.
This cute cottage was just perfect for our stay. It was clean and thoughtfully furnished. The hosts were kind and very helpful. It was so fun to be right on the water for family canoe/kayak time and the porch has such peaceful views. We loved our stay and made many fun family memories!
Great view from large porch. Comfy beds. Well equipped kitchen. Short drive to grocery stores, including seafood market. Nature trails for our morning walks. We took day trips to Bar Harbor and Castine for lunch and the sights. The host was always available and helpful.
Had a great time at this cabin. It’s not often you find a place that is private and quiet like this one. The pond being so close makes it perfect. Loved fishing and caught some bass right off the dock. Our dog had fun running around in the water as well. Host was accommodating and always available. Close to Acadia and Bar Harbor. Most days we just wanted to hang out at the cabin and take it all in.
This place was exactly what we needed! We loved the extremely quiet atmosphere! It was a dream vacation for our dog as well! Beautiful place! Looking forward to returning some day!
Scenic view of the pond, with access to water. Water in the pond a bit too murky for a swim but great for kayaking. We liked the quiet location with reasonable travel time to attractions. Cabin is sufficiently stocked, however more towels would be needed for longer stays. No internet connection during our stay, but who needs it with a view like this?;) Good place to unplug and relax away from it all.
What an adorable, quaint, little place to stay. If quiet and relaxation is what you are looking for, this is the place for you. Sit by the water and let Mother Nature calm you. Just about an hour away from downtown Bar Harbor so plenty of opportunity to shop, eat, hike, but return to the quiet.
Amazing find on VRBO. Loved our stay at the cabin. My kids enjoyed fishing and swimming. Very quiet and secluded area, exactly as they described. The main only negative thing I would have to say is there are a ton of mosquitoes at night, but that is no one’s fault! During the day they weren’t as bad. Thank you for allowing us to enjoy your cabin!
This place rules!!! Couldn't have asked for a more perfect location during the most beautiful time of year (mid-Oct).
Visiting Maine and going to Acadia NP during fall was on my bucket list. I'm so thankful that we were able to call this place home while we were out there.
I knew that we would love the location as soon as we turned onto the one lane gravel road leading to the cabin. It is secluded and quiet, but within a short drive of restaurants and attractions. The last night of out stay the sky was clear and we were able to see the Milky Way from the pier on the property.
Fantastic from start to finish.
Everything was clean and the property was well supplied with everything you need to relax and enjoy.
Loved canoeing/kayaking and swimming in the pond.
The deck was wonderful and the location was prime for accessing the Downeast trail for bike rides as well as short drives to Donnell Public lands for great hikes.
Acadia MDI/Schoodic we’re only 35-40 minutes away.
15-20 minutes into Ellsworth for any groceries/services.
Pleasantly surprised that late August in the woods on a lake in Maine and very little issues with bugs.
We have more mosquitoes in our back yard back in Maryland.
We live Maine and would highly recommend a stay at Loon Landing for anyone looking to explore the Acadia National Park area or just relax on Great Pond.
Aaron & Jennifer were great hosts.
The Cottage was exactly as described in the listing. It was well furnished and supplied. We found the pamphlets and guide books supplied to be especially helpful as we explored the area.
The only downside was that it was extremely buggy. This of course can’t be helped at a cottage in the woods by a pond in early summer. We would just recommend bringing lots of bug spray.
We were able to take full advantage of the kayaks and canoe as well as the fire ring. We had a great time and would stay again.
Loon Landing was the perfect spot for our anniversary getaway! The pictures and description were very accurate. The cabin was comfortable and equipped with all we needed! We enjoyed time on the lake and some delightful nearby restaurants and hikes! Hoping to return again!
We enjoyed our stay at Loon Landing. The hosts were very helpful. The place was very private. One of our primary goals for the trip was to see and hear loons. The very first morning at 6:10 am, a loon drifted in right at the end of our pier and demonstrated his vocal talents! It was nice having our own canoe and kayaks to use for exploring. It was just a short drive to Acadia, which we explored thoroughly. Thanks so much Aaron and Jennifer!
Traveled to Maine for a destination wedding. My date changed plans at the last moment and I had to travel alone and chose to stay a few less days. The owners were very understanding, allowing my dogs and only charging the extra fee for the days that I was actually going to be there. I would've loved to be able to just change the dates of my stay to enjoy the property with my boyfriend but I knew it was much too late for that. Although I was staying alone, I felt very safe and close enough to other houses if there were any issues. The composting toilet wasn't any problem and that was something I was initially concerned about. Also I wish the wifi was a little better but I probably should've just been enjoying the view more instead of watching TV and answering emails. I would definitely recommend.
Can't say enough good things about this place. About a 1 mile drive down a dirt road to a very peaceful and quiet location. Only noises to be heard are the loons. Like someone else mentioned in another review most of the time we were the only people in the lake swimming and kayaking. Occasionally we would see someone else fishing and just get a friendly wave of the hand.
There is a sharp drop off in depth in the water about 30-40 yards from shore and the stairs leading to the loft are steep - not a big deal but just be mindful if you have small children.
About 30-40 minutes to Acadia and Bar Harbor. The more immediate local locations are also great (i.e. Timber Tina's, Ruth and Wimpy's, Jordan's Snack Bar, etc.) Grocery stores/Box stores only about 10 min ride away if need be
Internet can be fickle but not really a determining factor for us.
No issues with the composting toilet at all. It operates like and above ground septic system with the tank being under the house. Never had any issues with flushing, smell, or anything else. Also no emptying it - the owners take care of that.
Only suggestion we had are you may want to bring a fan bc it can get stuffy in there (you are in the woods surrounded by trees) and just relax.....
Ah tranquility. It is so peaceful and serene at Loon Landing. We took advantage of the canoe and kayaks and were usually the only ones out on the pond. It is very quiet and secluded as others have stated. You can see one other cottage through the woods, but it is far enough away that you can’t see or hear anyone. My dog loved it there, so much for her to explore. The ferns were so huge she could get lost in them. We found a series of trails at the end of the road. You go up this wooded trail and come out on these trails that are owned by a logger (at least that’s what a local told me). My dog and I had a great time out there. It was nice to come back to the quiet woods after the hubbub of Bar Harbor and Acadia. We were expecting lots of mosquitoes and came prepared but never really needed any repellent as they weren’t bad. The compost toilet is fine. If you’ve ever used a camper or an airplane bathroom it is very similar. I was not cleaning it all the time as someone posted, just squirted some stuff in it as needed, which was hardly at all. The internet was fickle for us which affected AppleTV streaming but who needs TV in paradise? Go and enjoy. You won’t regret it!
Beautiful place but I would have liked to know a few things before I got here.
The cottage is immaculate and the pond is gorgeous. However … we were really looking forward to using the pond to fish and that wasn’t possible. We couldn’t get the boats in the water without standing in ankle deep muck and fishing from the land was difficult at best. The pictures showed a nice dock which was not in the water yet. Also, the description didn’t say anything about a compost toilet. It worked fine but i didn’t like having to clean it all the time. Lastly, we brought food to cook in the oven which didn’t work.
This sweet little house was immaculate, had plenty of staples in the kitchen, and everything one could need for outdoor play. On Great Pond, which is warm and clean; we swam and paddled in the kayaks(provided by property owner!) each day. Bring bicycles, as this is near a bike path that we took all the way into Hancock to swim in yet another fantastic pond(Donnell Pond). Stock up groceries in Ellsworth first, as once you get to this house you won't want to leave for anything. We did not start the car our entire 4 day stay, and the local market is just off the bike trail, which had the mandatory S'mores supplies we had forgotten. Fire pit-- wonderful. Somehow this woodsy place was not overwrought with mosquitos, so that was a plus. Blueberries along the roadside also a bonus.
