About this property

Charming 15th Century 3 Bedroom Stone Cottage

This charming 15th century stone cottage situated within the walls of the beautiful medieval bastide of Domme, Dordogne offers comfortable accommodation for up to 6 guests. Situated at the top of rue Porte de la Combe, it is ideally located within a few minutes' walk from shops, bars and restaurants. We purchased the property in 2019 having been fully refurbished by the previous owner, and in 2021 we installed a luxury en-suite shower room to the master bedroom downstairs.

From the picturesque front terrace, the front door opens onto a stylish large open-plan Living/Kitchen area:

The Living area offers 2 comfortable sofas, Smart TV with DVD and FreeSat, Sony Bluetooth speaker, 2 x coffee tables, elegant mango-wood cupboard and mirror with a selection of guide books and leaflets, clock, wooden dining table and 6 chairs. There is a beautiful large fireplace in which we have installed a woodburning stove with a small, complimentary supply of wood for guests to use.

The Kitchen area is fully equipped with electric oven/hob/extractor fan, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine/dryer, fridge-freezer, toaster/grill, kettle, coffee making accessories, and a good range of crockery and cooking accessories/utensils, iron and ironing board.

Leading from the Kitchen area, is a private, part-covered patio area with patio table and 6 chairs at one end where you can relax and enjoy alfresco dining, and rattan garden sofa and 2 chairs at the other end.

The open-plan wooden staircase leads both upstairs and downstairs:

Downstairs set on the bottom floor is the large Master Bedroom (35sqm) consisting of king-size bed (180cm/6ft), large rug, 2 bedside tables and table lamps, wardrobe, chest of drawers, dressing table with stool and mirror, TV with FreeSat, 2 radiators and hair dryer. This is a cool room in the heat of the summer and has nice inward opening windows with window grill and shutter opening onto the rue Porte de la Combe. We have just completed the installation of a beautiful En-suite Shower Room to compliment the Master Bedroom, consisting of a double-sink vanity unit, large shower (120cmx90cm) and toilet with travertine floor.

As this room is below road level and built into bedrock we have a installed a climate controlled dehumidifier which runs automatically to control humidity and maintain a comfortable atmosphere in the room.

Upstairs set on the 1st floor the landing area leads onto:

1 double Bedroom consisting of a queen-size bed (160cm/5ft), 2 rugs, 2 bedside tables and table lamps, hanging rail and hair dryer
2nd smaller double Bedroom consisting of a small double bed (140cm/4ft), 1 rug, 1 bedside table and table lamp and hanging rail
Bathroom with toilet, wash basin unit with 2 drawers and shower unit.

The former owner, a local resident of Domme, had spent a few years sympathetically restoring this former Doctor's house to its former glory, retaining the magnificent fireplace set on the ground floor Living/Kitchen area. We were able to purchase the property in 2019 and finish off the refurbishment.

Please note, the wooden stairs are open plan, hand rails are available on 2 of the walls and care should be taken when using the stairs. It is not ideal for young children and may not be suitable for adults who have difficulty going up and down stairs. We will be planning to install a bannister rail in the near future.

There is a step down from the master bedroom into the en-suite, some guests may find it a bit of s steep step, we will be looking to install a handrail to assist guests.

As there are no bedrooms on the ground floor it is not wheelchair accessible.

Cleaning Charge of £150 per stay will be charged as an additional extra and payable when booking.

Tourist Tax is excluded from the quoted rates and will be charged as an extra in Euros @ 3% per booking

Long road trip

We loved the property, the whole area, the food and the people! O’Moulin’s is a must for dinner. Cath is an excellent host! Loved having an informal charcuterie and eine on the enclosed terrace. Just superb.

A little Paradise on the hill

A beautiful cottage in a lovely little hill town. The cottage has been lovingly restired and updated. It was just as represented in the photos on line.

Lovely Villa

We booked the Villa for 2 weeks. It was as described in the listings. The owner was very responsive. The location is fabulous! We loved our time in Domme and the Dordogne. We would not hesitate the book again.

Absolutely first rate

Two couples stayed here for five nights in mid-October. The cottage had plenty of room for all of us, cooking space was adequate, and all of the furniture and appointments were top notch. We were right in the middle of town, within easy walking distance of all of the sites of Domme, including the famous belvedere looking over the Dordognia valley. The property owners responded to our questions quickly, even though they were in Great Britain. The basement bedroom was cool at night but great for sleeping. The need to dump the dehumidifiers was a slight inconvenience, but nothing we could not adapt to. And the outdoor, partially covered patio in back was a great place for an evening glass of wine. All together a great experience.

We are Martin and Cath Venn, and we are pleased to announce our French property is now available to share with holiday guests.

We live in the UK and fell in love with the Dordogne area a few years ago and became fascinated with the steep history of Domme and the surrounding areas. Whilst we are not available on site to meet and greet our guests we have a great team maintaining the property and carrying out all the housekeeping for us.

We hope you will enjoy your stay, Bon Voyage !
