Thank you for such a lovely stay in the Primrose Cottage at Shippe!

Amazing property in quaint village just outside of Canterbury, UK. Owner was extremely welcoming and accommodating. We had plenty of space and the full kitchen and washer/dryer met our needs perfectly. Parking was a little challenging, but definitely manageable. Would book again in a heartbeat!!!

wonderful accommodation

We had a wonderful stay with this cottage in a great location. You could reach Canterbury in a short time by bike and yet the cottage was in a quiet location. Also London is easily accessible by train from Canterbury. The village of bridge also had great offers for us with several restaurants, tea rooms and a small super market. We explored the area with our bikes. The cycle paths were well sign posted. The cottage, with its lovely and pretty furnishings, gave us a wonderful holday with great experiences and insights. The cottage was well equipped with wifi, TV and modern kitchen appliences. The landlords were very nice and available to answer any questions.

Charming Historic Cottage stay in charming historic village!

This was everything advertised and better. Lexie was about the best host we have ever had. She lives so close by that she was literally there to check on us and ask if we needed anything or any recommendations almost EVERY time we were coming and going. She even shared her own groceries with us when we realized that everything was closed on our arrival day. The cottage is adorable and across from a Michelin star restaurant (Bridge Arms) and down the street from a wonderful farm-to-table old manor inn (The Pig) where we had memorable meals. The only thing I'd caution is that it's out-of-the way and we found that the bus service was unreliable. Plan on taxis if you don't have a car!

Lovely cottage

Cosy cottage and Bridge is a lovely place from where you can explore Kent. The owner is very welcoming and gives you a good start with a hamper with food products from the area. The cottage is rather smaller than the impression you get from the photographs. Also, considering that there is no view I think that the price is to high.

About the host

Hosted by Lexie

Host profile image
I am a nurse and my husband works in London. We have lived in New York and rented houses across America and Europe for vacations so we know what we would like to find in a property. We are now country living with children. This cottage is exclusively a holiday rental and we live in the house next door,

Why they chose this property

Primrose cottage is one of four cottages in what was once known as Primrose Alley. The first three cottages have now been converted into one dwelling where we live and we are pleased to offer Primrose Cottage as holiday accommodation for individuals and families looking to stay in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in this unique corner of The Garden of England. The cottage is believed to be built in the 15th Century and has a wealth of original and interesting features such as exposed beams, inglenook fire place and a small twisting staircase (with handrail).

What makes this property unique

You will have your own front door which takes you into the living room. The living room has a comfortable sofa, armchair, drinks cabinet, selection of local interest books, board games, sewing kit and a mini bar. The television provides Sky and is logged in to Netflix. The Inglenook fireplace has a wood burner which you are very welcome to use.
Through the living room you will find a dining room. There is a full tea set should you want afternoon tea and an elegant dining service for a more formal meal. All with beautiful ambient lighting.

In the kitchen you will find a fridge freezer, coffee machine and cafetiere, kettle, toaster, microwave, dishwasher and washer/dryer. The kitchen is equipped for baking and cooking. We provide washing and dishwasher tablets, bin bags and other cleaning products for your stay. There is a first aid box under the sink and a fire blanket in the kitchen.

The kitchen door leads out to a private patio which has a dining area and a charcoal BBQ.

From the living room is a narrow staircase to the first floor. On the landing upstairs there is access to the first bedroom, then to the bathroom, a dressing area and the master bedroom room.

The first bedroom has two single beds. This room has space for a travel cot or extra blow up child bed, and we can provide both by prior arrangement. There is also a desk / bureau for your use, a chest of drawers and a small wardrobe. The curtains are black out curtains.

The bathroom has a bath with a shower over the bath, a toilet and a sink. We will provide toilet paper.

The dressing area provides a large chest of drawers, a wardrobe, hair dryer and straighteners. There is also a fire extinguisher and smoke detector on this landing.

The master bedroom has a Super King bed, a bookcase, rocking chair and ample space for child beds / cots if needed.
