Top of the line accommodation - Exceptional Rental

Monarch Garden Inn was the nicest place we have ever rented - ever. Its location in Emigrant, MT is ideal for visiting Yellowstone Nat’l Park, Bozeman, and the local attractions like Chico Hotsprings. There is also enough infrastructure close by to pick up necessary groceries, etc. and even eat out. The best part of Monarch Garden in is the hospitality and actual accommodations. Dorothy and Leo are exceptional and gracious hosts. They are caring, friendly, and knowledgable. They welcomed us graciously and invited as to enjoy their home rental as if it was our own home. They gave us many amazing tips on finding wildlife to view, and they taught us and our children about the magic and miracle of the Monarch Butterfly life cycle. They also gave us complete privacy when we needed it to relax. Their house is amazing. It is METICULOUSLY clean and exceptionally well stocked with absolutely everything a traveler may need. The bed is a king tempurpedic and there is a jacuzzi tub!!! Both of these high end ammenities are an amazing luxury after a long day in the national park. For me, the top three requirements for a successful stay are safety, cleanliness, and comfort. Dorothy and Leo provided all three with the addition of hospitality and luxury. Thank you Dorothy and Leo for the best trip and stay of our lives!!

Big sky and mountain views

My wife and I stayed at this apartment for 4 nights in September. We used the apartment as our base for exploring Yellowstone National Park. Here are our impressions: LOCATION: The location was about 30 minutes from the Roosevelt Arch at the North Entrance to Yellowstone National Park. Even though it was a little further from the park, we loved the location for several reasons. 1) Due to the open concept, we had a spectacular view of Emigrant Mountain from every room in the apartment except the bathroom. 2) The location was away from the crowds in a peaceful setting with a bio-hedge and, while we were there, numerous bluebirds. 3) There were local restaurants and a market with everything we needed less than 5 minutes away. 4) Because we were away from everything, we were able to experience the true Montana big sky for stargazing at night. CLEANLINESS: We are sticklers for cleanliness and this apartment passed with flying colors. AMENITIES: The apartment had everything that we were looking for – California king bed, large bathroom vanity, plenty of kitchen counter space (including a large island), full-size washer & dryer, internet access, plenty of space for the two of us, and did I mention the views. The bathroom had a large jetted tub, and the owners supplied Epsom salts to use with it after a long day hiking/exploring the park. Everything was updated with exquisite finishes. My wife fell in love with the granite on the countertops and island. PRIVACY: This apartment is the second floor of the home, above the owner’s living space. We had no issues with noise or privacy. We were able to park in a parking space off the driveway, with just a few steps inside the front door up to the living space, so loading and unloading the car was not a problem. HOSTS: Dorothy and Leo were very welcoming, responsive, and gracious in meeting all our needs, and are some of the nicest people we have met in our travels. When we arrived, Dorothy gave us a detailed tour of the apartment and amenities. They were very respectful of our privacy, but were also genuinely interested in talking with us about the area and our adventures. OPPORTUNITIES FOR IMPROVEMENT: The only thing we would change, if we could, would be to make the shower a little larger. Other than that, the apartment was perfect. OVERALL: We were extremely satisfied with this apartment and give it our highest recommendation - we would definitely stay here again.

Our stay at Monarch Garden Inn was truly a "Home away from home" experience. The apartment was spacious, well-furnished and comfortable. Leo and Dorothy were excellent hosts, friendly and very knowledgeable in helping us plan our stay and exploring Yellowstone and Grand Tetons Parks. The peace and quiet was welcome after the often hectic days in the parks and on the roads. A special treat was learning more about Monarch butterflies and their efforts to help the butterflies thrive. Dorothy even let us watch the live, almost magical transformation of a Monarch caterpillar into a chrysalis, which later transforms into an adult Monarch butterfly. The caterpillar literally "unzips" its outer skin, then twists and turns, and before our eyes, became the chrysalis in a matter of minutes. We would recommend staying here to anyone who has a genuine interest in and appreciation for the natural beauty of the land and wildlife of the Rocky Mountains. Great getaway to Yellowstone National Park

Dorothy and Leo are great hosts. The check-in was smooth and easy and Dorothy gave a detailed tour of the property. Dorothy and Leo provide a lot of information about the local area (which cannot be found online). The property was clean and as described. It is closer to Yellowstone national park. We were able to spot few Elks from the property. During sunrise, you have humming birds flying by the bird feeder. We enjoyed staying here and would definitely love to come back. We would recommend this place to anyone looking for a place to stay in this area.

Superb homebase for Yellowstone adventures

Dorothy and Leo's beautiful Monarch Garden reflects their personal warmth, love of nature, and care for its protection. The views from.the bedroom and livingroom are fabulous...elk meandering, hawks flying with mountains as backdrop. Kitchen has all you need, and the jacuzzi tub is wonderful after a day of exploring. The butterfly garden is inspirational! I highly recommend spending some time reviewing the wonderful Yellowstone tips and guides they provide. Those special places made our visit fascinating and full of wildlife sightings. We can't give enough gold stars! Thank you Dorothy and Leo for such a wonderful vacation home.

Wonderful hosts and beautiful home!

Beautiful home and the view was stunning. Leo and Dorothy were very kind and gracious hosts, providing as much or as little insight to the area as you want. It should be noted that they do have a cat and although not in the area while you are there, if you have allergies it could present an issue.

Dorothy and I met in Anchorage, Alaska in 1988. Our love for animals and the outdoors led us to start a wildlife photography business and become active in protecting unique watchable wildlife resources.

We were lucky to have the CBS Evening News feature us twice for protecting the world-famous McNeil River brown bears, which helped us lead the effort that established the 160,000 acre McNeil River State Game Refuge. We then assisted Defenders of Wildlife, The Alaska Wildlife Alliance, and Friends of Animals in protecting the famed Toklat wolf pack in Denali National Park, the longest studied group of wild wolves in the world. On November 2, 1999, CBS Evening News featured us again for these efforts.

In 2005, we were honored to be asked to lead a round table discussion at the 8th World Wilderness Congress, hosting over 150 nations. At that meeting, we were asked to become two of the 40 founding members of the International League of Conservation Photographers. The ILCP was initially founded with 40 Fellows considered to be some of the most passionate nature and wildlife photographers of our generation. The mission of the ILCP is to further environmental and cultural conservation through photography and work on global campaigns to highlight current issues.

Dorothy's successful account of creating a petition to protect the Toklat wolves of Denali National Park is the lead story in MoveOn's book entitled, "MOVEON'S 50 WAYS TO LOVE YOUR COUNTRY: How to Find Your Political Voice and Be a Catalyst for Change.

Our passion for conservation has led us to developing and sharing a Rescue, Raise, & Release program for Monarch butterflies, whose population has decreased from over one Billion to a low of 35 million in the last 20 years. We decided to offer our home as a vacation rental which can serve visitors to Yellowstone and show interested guests how they can help Monarchs and other pollinators.

Why they chose this property

Leo worked in Montana in the 80's and always dreamed of returning. We chose the Paradise Valley because of it's incredible mountain views and closeness to Yellowstone.
