Our information pack has details of some lovely sites to visit within a radius of less than four miles:
Calk Abbey - the ‘House that time forgot,’
Staunton Harold Garden Centre & woodland walks - once the home of the infamous Earl Ferrars who shot his steward and was subsequently hanged at Tyburn!
Breedon Church - A local land mark offering wonderful views of the surrounding countryside and home of the unique Breedon Angel.
Grace Dieu Priory - romantic ruins made famous by William Wordsworth and maybe catch a glimpse of its famous ghost!
Just a little further afield there is:
Ashby-de-la-Zouch - a quaint little market town with its individual shops, cafes and castle.
Moira Furnace - a fully restored blast furnace and museum offering boat rides on the Ashby canal and lovely walks around the adjoining parkland.
1620s House Donington Le Heath - a lovingly restored medieval manor house and gardens which was once home to the Digby family who were implicated in the gunpowder plot.
As for activities the area has plenty to offer:
Cycling/Walking/Horse Riding - The area abounds with cycling routes, footpaths and bridle ways. We have maps available plus the insider knowledge which comes with being keen walkers and cyclists ourselves and living in the area all our lives.
Bush Craft & Survival Skills - Literally down the road from us!
Woodland Crafts - Again two centres less than a mile away!
Fine dining, cheap and cheerful and all standards between are catered for within walking distance or a short drive.
Our information folder will point you in the direction to suit your taste and if you want to cook yourself, regular farmers markets are held at nearby towns, farm shops are located just a few miles down the road and several large supermarkets are located a short drive away.
Should you wish to explore any of these areas on two wheels we have a couple of bikes you may borrow or they can be hired locally. (The Hicks Lodge cycle centre is just six miles away with miles of off road tracks to enjoy).
Other things to note:
The studio is adjacent to our farm so you may get a visit from one of the farm dogs who likes to check us out at least once a day!
Her name is Flash and she is very friendly, but if you are nervous of dogs and prefer not to socialise with her we will ensure she remains on farm duty during your stay.

Nice comfortable beds, welcome pack including wine most acceptable

The property is in a nice secluded and quiet area and we were able to make our own breakfast rather than paying for it in a hotel which was cheaper and very convenient. The bathroom worked well for my husband who has mobility problems.

The cosiest home from home

I stayed here for 5 nights with my two dogs whilst away with my Flyball team. For a studio it was so roomy and cosy and just what I wanted. Equipped with everything you’ll need including a lovely little garden with beautiful views. There is a lovely nature reserve about 30 seconds down the road and generally a very peaceful area with local amenities close by. Sue and Brian were so welcoming and I also had some tasty goodies waiting on my arrival. Thank you so much :)

dog friendly short break

The property was lovely and clean with modern furnishings . The owner had very kindly provided us with some lovely goodies . The beds were super comfortable and the shower room fantastic. The small garden was lovely especially for our dog who enjoyed lazing on the lawn . We sat outside to eat as we were blessed with good weather , it was lovely to hear the birds and horses . Didn’t use the car as lots of lovely walks straight from the door . A lovely break that I’d highly recommend .

Short break with dogs

We’ve just returned from our short 3 night break with our two dogs. We wanted to explore the area and be close enough to easily get to Sherwood Forest . The accommodation was extremely clean, modern, offered more than we expected. Kitchen was very well equipped, bathroom was very spacious and modern, beds very comfortable and bedding was like something from a 5* hotel! We couldn’t believe the welcome gifts that awaited us on arrival ! Garden is quite small but sufficient for relaxing or alfresco eating for two and my dogs managed to have a good play on the lawn. We were lucky with the weather so spent most of our time out and about so the studio was perfectly sufficient for the time we were spending there relaxing or watching tv. We prepared our breakfast there and an evening snack but you could easily rustle up a proper meal if you wanted to as there is a fridge, hob, microwave , pots and pans and utensils. Loads of pubs around the area and lots of places to walk

Just Fab...

Loved it the moment we walked in....perfect for a 3 night stay for a wedding we were attending. So clean and very "Covid" conscious. Very clean and comfortable beds. Towels so good my husband has said I have to replace ours ! The kitchen is what my daughter would call "cute"....mini dishwasher, microwave/oven all you need should your stay be longer. Just 2 small winges (to give an honest review) Hot water not always hot and WIFI can be a bit on the dodgy side....However it would not stop us from staying there again...in fact planning another long weekend as we speak 🙂🙂 And a huge thank you to the hosts whose generosity was much appreciated 😉

One of the best places we've ever stayed!

I messaged the host a few times before we left and they replied so quickly! The studio was exactly as described, new and SUPER clean! There was even a mini dish washer, fridge and combi mucriwave. We loved the self contained garden and a little parking space. A lovely nature reserve is round the corner and LOADS of places to visit nearby.
