About this property

Luxury Wooden Swiss Chalet With Private Sauna - Switzerland

Built in 2001, this luxury chalet faces south and west with views across the valley in a bright, sunny position. There are views of the mountains and whole valley from the chalet and no buildings in front. We can spend hours with a glass of wine just watching the changing light on the mountains.

It offers 4 double or twin bedrooms, 2 bathrooms (1 en suite), and a shower. it has its own private wellness centre with a steam room and a sauna. There are two living areas, both with double sofabeds. One of them is a huge luxury leather one. It has two TVs, both with several English channels. It is rated 4*+ Luxury by the local Tourist Board.

No need to hire a car for this chalet. Trains from the airport drop you just 5 minutes' walk away. A bus stop is 50m from the chalet, and the free bus ferries you around the village and between the ski areas. The nearest bubble car, ski area, ski rental shop and ski school is just 5 minutes' walk away. Our record is being on the slopes with hired skis within 30 minutes of the train dropping us!

If you have kids, the nearest ski school specialises in teaching children and has lots of English instructors. If you have very small kids, there is even a crèche with fully qualified staff at the top of the nearest mountain where you can leave 18mn-5yr olds for an hour to a day whilst you ski.

The kitchen is equipped with every facility including latest cooker/microwave and hob, etc. Even a fondu set is provided!Large fridge/freezer. the kitchen and bathrooms are fitted with Italian tiles. The décor is modern/cozy with paintings sourced from Denmark, and traditional antique local prints.

There are traditional Swiss wooden chairs as well as comfy sofas. Fitted carpet throughout. Bedrooms are lined with walls and ceilings in traditional pine. Cable TV, including several English channels radio, CD, DVD as well as WiFi throughout the house. A large area for ski clothing and equipment. All washing facilities, including washing machine, drier, iron, ironing board. Stunning views, just 5 mins walk from the nearest cable car.

There is an English letting agent in Klosters to provide information.

Access to over 350km of world-renowned ski slopes. A creche for the very young run by fully qualified staff, + specialist children's ski school 5 minutes away.

Klosters is justifiably world famous as a ski resort. Offering everything from beginners to black runs and huge off piste areas- no wonder Prince Charles goes there! The Ski Club of Great Britain has a rep there throughout the season. There are 5 different ski schools. But what makes Klosters so special is that it is still also a small traditional Swiss village with wooden chalets. Permanent population is just 3000. For non-skiers there are walks through glorious forests and trips to 18th century shopping towns such as Chur, and many traditional Swiss tearooms - so different from purpose built resorts!

In Summer there is a huge outdoor swimming pool, a sailing lake at Davos, walks/treks/and climbs. For children there are playgrounds, zoos, horse rides. This is Heidi Country with specially marked walks amongst the tiny villages. For adults, there is even a tour of the highest vineyard in Europe. The highest brewery in Europe, about 15 miles the other direction, also offers tours!

Sonnige Herbstwoche
Alles prima, sehr empfehlenswert.

Nice duplex chalet in a good location. Quiet location and excellent bedding. We felt really good there. Internet is a bit slow and TV‘s could be a bit bigger but good value overall.

Wonderful chalet in beautiful Klosters
We rented Chalet Rhaetia for our family vacation in early July. Communication with the host as well as their agent in Klosters, Mitzi, was terrific. The chalet was wonderfully comfortable for our group of seven adults. There are a total of 4 official bedrooms (3 doubles on the top floor, one small room on the main floor with a single) and, additionally, the basement has a sitting room with pullout couch and full bathroom. The chalet was well maintained and tastefully decorated and fully stocked with regards to dining supplies, cooking supplies etc. The only minor disappointment was that the listing indicated that there was a BBQ grill, however, upon arrival we discovered that it really was just a tiny tabletop charcoal grill which was not very useful. Other than that, the VRBO description of the chalet is accurate. The location of the chalet is terrific! A 5min walk to the Klosters train station, and a 1 min walk to the local bus stop. We did not rent a car and did not feel we needed one during our stay - public transportation was very easy to navigate and the summer guest cards allowed us to use the local bus for free, as well as free train travel to Davos, plus reduced rates on mountain gondolas. There are a plethora of hiking opportunities in and around Klosters for all ages and abilities. It is truly a beautiful area.

Mooi, compleet huis in prachtige omgeving

Luxury stay in a perfect location for skiing
The house was perfect for our group of 7. Plenty of space, 3.5 bathrooms all renovated. Located near bus station for a quick ride to the gondola. Housekeeper Mitzi was very helpful to meet us and bring luggage from the station. Without luggage it's an easy 5 minutes walk.

Family Reunion and Skiing Holiday in one Site
For a three-generations joint Christmas celebration we needed a spacious and well-equipped place. We found exactly that in Chalet Rhaetia, it was luxurious and generous on the inside. For all, from grandmother to children, to enjoy skiing, we needed the right environs. We found all that in Davos-Klosters, within easy reach as the bus stopped right outside the house (while we could still park our two cars here) to drive us right into the village and into the lovely sight we previously had from the windows. Great place inside and out.

Superb and spacious chalet with excellent views
The chalet itself could not be better. We've never stayed in a better one. It is tasteful and spacious, the kitchen is excellent. The sauna and turkish bath are a true treat after a day in the snow. The terrace is really big and since we had only good whether we used it every day. The view from the chalet on the old village and mountains is really superb. Klosters is still as charming as it was decades ago and is unspoiled by mass tourism. All in all, you will never regret a stay in Chalet Rhaetia.

Conveniently located yet very relaxing
We have just come back from the wonderful ski holiday in Davos and Klosters. Mark's chalet became one of our favourite places. First of all, Mark was very helpful and quick to respond while making plans for our holiday. On our arrival we were met by Mitzi at the railway station. She was a very delightful, kind woman and in fact was very helpful. She showed us around and went through many things about our stay in the chalet. The moment we arrived at the chalet, we just fell in love with it. It was comfortably warm inside with floor heating. The chalet was very spacious and the interior was quite decent . The views from windows were beautiful. Most importantly, everything was very clean and immaculate. There was also a new private sauna that was really relaxing after skiing all day. There are several ski courses around this area but we especially liked Jakobshorn where the lifts were mostly chair lifts. You can reach the resort by train in about 30 min. The train and bus rides were all free within this area for visitors. Although you may find traveling is a bit nuisance, I would prefer this quiet area to a big city like Davos, and the chalet is very relaxing like your home. All our family had such a wonderful holiday. We will definitely visit Mark's chalet again! That means I would definitely recommend this chalet to those who loves Swiss ski holiday.

Family stay at Chalet Rhaetia
We have just returned from a great family holiday staying at Chalet Rhaetia. The chalet is of a very high standard and it was a pleasure to stay there. Location is great with great views across the valley to mountains (when clouds permit!!!), and trains! Ideal location with public transport working very well, especially with the 'guest cards' giving much of the local travel free of charge. Website was great for information and we did a number of the suggested walks and itineries. Mitzi too was really helpful when we arrived with plenty of local info. A week was definitely not long enough and we would hope to visit again before too long.

Late Spring Skiing
Spent a very enjoyable and warm week in Klosters Dorf in mid April towards the end of the ski season The Chalet is very well appointed and was very comfortable for the 2 families sharing it. The quality is typical Swiss. modern and has everything for an excellent skiing week , and the advice provided allows a fast start and trip to the slopes. The local contact was very helpful and could not be faulted. All the kids being complete I pods. phone etc fans were overjoyed to find free wifi. chalet is within walking distance of one lift and the bus stop is about 60m away with an 8 minute ride to the Gondola that leads to Parsenn For our stay travel was a bit inconvenient requiring most days for us to travel to Davos to catch lifts up the mountain as this season the snow was limited, but the resort had done a great job of keeping 2 areas open. The snow was excellently groomed and of course the slopes at this time were not busy. With the local cards provided as part of the kurtax you have access to all buses and trains so this does not cost, and during the high season clearly the transport is more frequent and the skiing allows runs down to Klosters. The chalet is pretty convenient for those arriving by train as Klosters Dorf station is only 400m walk and definitely Klosters is more scenic and Swiss than Davos. Despite having lived in CH for 3 years this was first time we had skied this area, and definitely plan to do some day trips next year For the warm afternoons the terrace is nice to sit out and enjoy the spectacular view. This seating could be perhaps more substantial : I suspect in winter you would not use it. We have stayed in several chalets and locations in Switzerland and I can recommend this as a lovely holiday location.

A Perfect Ski Vacation
We had a wonderful time in Mark's home. If you are looking for the perfect ski vacation base, particularly for a family or more than one couple, this is the place for you. It is a beautifully designed ski chalet. You walk into a ground floor complete with ski storage room, clothing racks that can easily accommodate 8 peoples' ski gear and a laundry room. There is a lovely kitchen where you can easily cook a delicious meal and a spacious living room and dining room and outdoor patio with spectacular views of the mountains, valley and town. The beds are very comfortable, especially after a long day of skiing. You step out the door and either walk to the Madrissa left or jump on the bus to easily access the other ski areas. Note to skiers: We found the ski options at Madrissa to be very limited and preferred to catch the bus to Klosters Platz, where you can catch the gondola to the Parsenn ski area. You can also easily catch the train to Jacobshorn. Mark's recommended ski rental shop was terrific. They had a good selection of high performance skis and happily switched them out to better accomodate our desires. Finally, the restaurant, Bargis Gasthaus, right next door, is cozy with friendly staff and good cordon blue and ravioli. The online description of the property was accurate. Mark was extremely responsive to e-mail and helpful. We have rented vacation homes and apartments in Argentina, Uruguay, Belize, France, Italy, Malta, England and the US, and this home offered among the best ratios of quality to money spent. From Grandpa Bob at 75 to the kids at 10, 12 and 14, everyone loved our vacation in this lovely home. We highly recommend it and we intend to return.

Good Klosters chalet
A lovely chalet, with a homely feel to it, met the description given on the internet. We (children especially) enjoyed watching the train weave up the valley from the patio area, and it really was a short walk (achievable with small kids) to the station. Mitzi was very helpful, and the summertime tourist tax covers a transport pass for a huge range of cable cars. We found the broadband a bit tempermental. We would recommend this chalet. Stayed July 2010.

Chalet Rhaetia - Klosters Dorf- August 2010

Chalet Rhaetia - Klosters Dorf
The position of the chalet is just so convenient to trains & buses both for arrival & jaunting off to Klosters, Davos & Chur. Great skiing with the Madrisa just 5 mins from chalet & the slopes of Klosters & Davos a short train ride away. The property is particularly cosy even on the coldest day & as advertised 4 double rooms, 2 bathrooms with an extra toilet. Was clean & well maintained - a home away from home. Easy to cook "at home" meals especially if children are travelling with...(kitchen well stocked with equipment) & the Coop in Klosters is very handy to the train station. Klosters Dorf has only a few restaurants & the shops do not open Sat pm or Sunday - they also close from 12 noon till 2pm daily... I would certainly consider using the property again & would suggest it to my travelling friends. Shan

Our 2nd visit and just as good as our 1st
Modern chalet whic overlooks the valley and is very handy for public transport with bus and trains stopping less than 5 mins from the door. This means it is very easy to get around. Coupled with the local "guest card" a good deal of your transport, including several cable cars and swimming pools is free. Our kids (12 & 15) were happy to pop into town for a few hours giving us some peace and quiet. Good times indeed !

About the host

Host profile image
I have an obsession about personal service, not just machines with endless tape recordings an options and waiting 20 minutes to be answered! I always make sure that I or my agents are available at the end of my mobile if needed. My motto is "personal holidays with personal service".

Over 800 guests a year now stay at my five holiday homes run by me and listed on Homeaway. The average rating of over 250 online reviews is 4.9! I try to deliver consistency and quality.

The business started when we who bought the chalet for our own family holidays to give our children a chance to learn to ski, just as I learned as a small boy. I learned in the neighbouring valley, so had very good local knowledge as to where to buy. Now they are teenagers and totally competent on any black run or off-piste. But they all learned from being small children in the local ski school and grew to love the resort and the area. We still gather for family holidays and ski there as well as enjoy summer rambling and hiking. Our 14yr old describes it as his 'favourite place on earth' - you can't say better than that!

I am a retired banker, my wife is a doctor.

Why they chose this property

Car hire in Switzerland is very expensive, and I can't be bothered with snow chains and parking. This property is a walk to one ski area and the pass stops 50m away to the other. The railway station is a 5 minute walk, so we never need a car in winter, just arrive and leave by train from the airport. There are spectacular views across the mountains. No point in a chalet that feels like the middle of a city!

This is a chance to be at a world class top resort without having to pay top prices.

We also wanted a proper 'house/chalet' feel, not just an anonymous flat in a apartment block. It feels like a proper home. It is equipped for our family holidays, not a commercial let.

Each of our places is designed to have the feel of the country it is in. This one has pine furniture and Swiss silver as well as all the modern facilities such as built-in cupboards, not just flatpack chipboard! There is even a fondue set in the kitchen so you can have a proper Swiss meal one evening.

What makes this property unique

Chalets rather than just flats are rare in this part of Switzerland. The French side has lots of chalets, but the German side is almost entirely flats. We like the space and privacy of a proper house. It feels much more open and gives more freedom. The only view from lot of ski places is just the building next door! You would never know that you were in high mountains! We wanted a spectacular view. Just looking out on the sunrise or sunset at the ever-changing mountain view is special all by itself.

There aren't many chalets that have a sauna and steam room just for themselves. It offers an amazing luxury experience that can normally only be found at the world's most expensive hotels.

This is one of our five places, all listed on Homeaway. So far this year we have had over 400 guests and over the years more than 250 online reviews of our properties . Our average rating is ! I try to ensure that my places deliver consistent quality again and again. Self catering should be high quality, not just making use of someone else's place.
