It is easily accessible from the Hanseatic city of Wismar via a causeway (15 km). The western tip of Poel is home to Timmendorf Strand, about one km beyond the actual town of Timmendorf. Timmendorf beach is the most popular beach on Poel and offers ideal conditions for a Baltic Sea vacation with its lighthouse, pilot house, small harbor, and many water sports. The island of Poel offers not just wide meadows, fields, long sandy beaches and delicious local cuisines, but also many historic sites. Leisure activities in the Hanseatic city of Wismar include an animal park, the "Wonnemar" fun and adventure park with spa and sauna world, cinema, theater, harbor, and historic old town.
