In 1897, Dr. Sousa Martins, a reputable physician in the treatment of lung diseases, considered that the “Nave de Areia” site located in Serra da Estrela was the ideal place to promote the treatment of lung diseases through curing in the open air.
Through this driver, the construction of the Grande Hotel dos Hermínio began, in a place, today called Penhas da Saúde, where Cota 1500 - Chalet 51 is located.
Penhas da Saúde is the highest urban agglomeration in Portugal, located at 1500m altitude, sheltered from mountainous elevations, which provide the necessary protection in the face of prevailing winds. With a magnificent sun exposure, it is the ideal place to enjoy fresh air, direct contact with nature and winter, with the natural wonder that only Serra da Estrela can provide.
Wood is the main element in the construction of the Cota 1500. The heating system combined with the thermal characteristics of the wood provide a different experience in an extremely cozy environment where children and adults can enjoy the charm and interior comfort of the chalet.
