The Space:
Set over three floors, this stunning holiday home has everything you could need for a coastal retreat. Lovingly designed by Yorkshire-based interior designer, Rachel Mclane, there is a distinctive country-chic style which flows perfectly throughout the property. You’ll find the open plan living, dining and kitchen area on the second floor so guests can enjoy incredible views from the double Georgian windows. St Hilda’s Abbey can be seen in the distance amongst the landscape of Whitby rooftops. Make a cup of tea, sit back, relax and watch the world go by. You’ll instantly feel at home in the warm and tranquil space. Switch on the flat screen TV and kick back on the comfy sofa after a long day of exploring Whitby or lose yourself in one of the many books which line the bookshelf. The lounge area follows onto the cottage-style kitchen and dining area. The clean and stylish kitchen is equipped with an oven, hob, toaster, fridge freezer, microwave, coffee machine, washing machine and dishwasher. The dining area is ideal for cosy family breakfasts and evening meals. On the floor beneath, you’ll find the master bedroom. The beautiful double room is a peaceful space with purple tartan accents. Elegant wall lights and a luxury bed add a contemporary twist, making the room feel like an extravagant boutique hotel. Next door is the main bathroom. This modern space is complete with a large walk in shower and a his and hers vanity unit. Head to the top floor and you’ll discover the second bedroom which is set within the eaves of the building. The quirky space features twin beds and the same funky purple tartan touches. The sky light windows boast beautiful views, including Whitby Abbey on the East Cliff in the distance. There is also an en-suite WC.

Guests have access to the full property. The keys to the property are accessed via a secure key safe and full details will be provided shortly before your arrival date. We provide a parking scratch card for your stay which gives you free parking in the W zones in Whitby. Additional free parking can be found nearby, and full details will be sent to you before check in
The Neighborhood:
Spyglass 1708 is located in the iconic Flowergate - one of the oldest and most historic streets in Whitby. You’ll find cosy cafes, restaurants and shops lining the street, so the property is ideally located. The Blue Flag West Cliff beach and promenade is just a short 5-minute walk from the property. On Pier Road, you’ll find fun arcades and plenty of fish restaurants where you can sample the catch of the day. The other side of Whitby is full of narrow, medieval streets dotted with boutiques and pubs. Climb the famous 199 steps up to the Church of Saint Mary. You can also discover the renowned ruined Whitby Abbey, which was the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s gothic novel ‘Dracula’. Step outside of Whitby and you’ll uncover a haven of woodland and moorland. Whitby forms part of the North York Moors National Park so it’s the perfect place for long walks.
Getting Around:
Spyglass 1708 is located in the centre of Whitby so the town can easily be explored on foot. Whitby train station is just a short 5-minute walk away so villages and towns along the North Yorkshire coast can easily be reached via rail. There’s also a taxi rank in close proximity to the train station. There are plenty of bus routes throughout Whitby. Hop on the X4 and you can visit beautiful coastal villages like Sandsend, Runswick Bay and Staithes. The X93 travels along the coast to Scarborough. The 95 route features plenty of quaint villages, such as Grosmont and Lealholm.
Other Things to Note:
Spyglass 1708 is set over three floors so guests will need to climb several flights of stairs. As typical with properties from this period, the stairs are quite steep so please take care and ensure children are supervised. Please note this is no WiFi at this property.
