Gorgeous Thornton-le-Dale 2 Bedroom Cottage & Garden, Cosy Family Friendly, WIFI

Ideal for families, couples and for those looking for a base for your outdoor activities or quiet getaway in the famously picturesque Yorkshire village of Thornton-le-Dale and North Yorkshire Moors National Park.

Stone Cottage is a beautifully cosy, original 18th century cottage with stunning period features such as open fire place and exposed 200 year old oak roof beams combined with up-to-date furnishings and amenities, including a brand new Sony LED 4K TV with Google chromecast, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, and very cosy HIVE heating system. Set on the quiet Westgate lane with plenty of on-street parking, and direct walking access to Thornton Village shops and pubs. Recently re-furnished, the airy rooms benefit from modern furniture that provides a contemporary yet homely environment. Family friendly, the house is also ideal for couples or larger groups. Included is all bedding and towels for the double bedroom and a twin room, as well as pull-out floor mattress (suitable for children or teenagers) in the twin room, with bedding available (please just ask :-)). The Master bedroom has an incredibly comfortable memory foam mattress and black-out curtains as your holiday sleep is very important. There is a family bathroom with bath and shower. A travel cot is available with bedding and a high chair just let us know if you'd like the cot setting up for your arrival. Make your stay relaxing rather than a chore with all the modern facilities including dish-washer, wifi, large screen TV, google chrome-cast, bluetooth speaker, Roberts DAB radio/bluetooth in kitchen, washing machine, tumble-dryer and even a high spec BBQ with outdoor dining furniture.

ACTIVITIES
With Dalby Forest just up the road Stone Cottage is ideal as your base for outdoor activities whether that be strolling through the village and picturesque lanes, hiking on the moors or in the forest, heading to the sea-side (just 30 minutes drive), family cycling on the quiet bridleways up-to and around Dalby forest or serious mountain biking on the famous purpose-built Dalby forest MTB Trails. Bridleways and footpaths lead from Thornton-le-dale right into the heart of Dalby Forest without having to use the main roads (just head for Ellerburn and then follow signs for the campsite).

The Beck (stream) as shown in the images is just 1/4 mile from the cottage and is lined by some of the most pristine thatched cottages and gardens in Yorkshire. Myself and our children have spent many summer hours paddling and playing in the water and relaxing in the sunshine. There is even a duck pond in the village to feed the ducks.

LOCAL FACILITIES - all within ½ mile of Stone Cottage

Cozy country cottage

This house is a perfect getaway, supplied with everything you would need for a short or long stay, including comfortable beds! The home makes a perfect base to explore surrounding attractions such as York, Pickering and Dalby Forest. However it's also within walking distance to many shops and restaurants and has a beautiful garden for dining and relaxing. Highly recommend!

Lovely cottage

We stayed for a short 7 day break in September , the cottage is in a pretty village with some pleasant walks and local shops to browse , it bustles but is generally unspoilt by tourism , Whitby, York and the Moors are within easy reach of whatever your preference is , history or walking /cycling and so on The cottage is well equipped , alot of thought has gone into making it comfortable without over cluttering it , chromecast TV and wifi are available for the evenings, a nice touch , I cook alot and the kitchen is easy for this without without the cupboards and drawers being stuffed with pots and pans/cutlery , you can find what you need without causing an avalanche or digging around in an overstuffed cutlery draw full of mismatched scrap metal ! its a thing for me Nina is a pleasure to deal with, informative to just the right amount , no fuss or petty rules , just lets you relax and get on with enjoying a well deserved break Overall we loved the place and will definitely book it again in future

Well equipped little cottage

We loved our stay at Stone Cottage. The owners had thought of pretty much everything you would need to make our stay with a young family comfortable and easy. There was steps and seats in the toilet for young children, plastic crockery and cutlery, washing facilities for all those clothes and Netflix all set up to keep them entertained. Was so easy to make it our home from home for two weeks. The cottage is surprisingly roomy, especially the bedrooms - however, be aware that it's a beautiful but old property and the ceilings are very low (didn't bother us we're short). It's placed just on the outskirts of Thorton Le Dale and a short walk from a lively little village, with lots going on and places to eat. It was a great place to base our holiday, we were only about 30 minutes - 1 hours from most places of interest, like York, the North Yorkshire Stream train, Whitby Bay, Dalby Forest and lots of lovely beaches and bikes rides/walks. Would come again if we wanted to holiday in the area again. Well recommended!

The perfect getaway

Wow, what a fabulous little cottage. We (2 adults and our son aged 9) had a fantastic adventurous 3 days. Firstly the cottage is lovely - modern, clean and perfectly cosy. We took our bikes and cycled to nearby Dalby Forest - definitely recommend going through the fields rather than the road, which we did on the first day up a very very steep hill. We also enjoyed a morning in the trees at Go Ape, again thoroughly recommend if you’re ok with heights. We ate out in Thornton le Dale on a couple of nights and enjoyed our return back to the cottage in front of the fire. On the way home we stopped at Sutton Bank and enjoyed more cycling. All in all a fabulous getaway, in a lovely cottage in a beautiful setting. We’ll certainly be back for more adventure 😊

Really lovely but watch out if you're tall

We stayed as 2 adults, a 3 year-old and a 5 year-old for 2 weeks. Clean and smart. Comfy beds. Plenty of storage. Well equipped - cookware, washing line and big freezer were handy. Lovely village. Decent size secure garden. Welcoming flowers, pro secco and biscuits on arrival. We were always able to park on the street outside within a few houses away. Check in and out were with a key safe so we didn't meet owners but they were helpful on email. Wifi worked fine. Beware of low ceilings downstairs: my husband is 6'1", he just about fitted under the ceilings but couldn't tip his head back to drink without banging it on beams, he had to duck under the doorways.

Lovely cottage clean and well equipped

Everything was great, we would have used the garden more if the weather was better. A nice walk to the village for dinner each evening.

We are Nina and Tom Marchment, plus Evie, Deacon & Veda our 3 children. I am a midwife and baby photographer and Tom runs a bicycle business called HUNT with his brother. We live in a village near Brighton on the South Coast where Tom's business is based.

Why they chose this property

I (Nina) grew up in Thornton-Le-Dale and several of my family still live here, we come back to Thornton-le-Dale every few months as we can't stay away. We love exploring and walking in Dalby Forest and the kids absolutely adore playing in the clear waters of the Beck. Plus the pubs and cafes are excellent. We hope you love visiting Thornton-le-Dale as much as we do and that you find The Stone Cottage to be a relaxing home from home .

What makes this property unique

The Stone Cottage grabbed our attention as it was very unique being an original stone building with 18th Century features, light airy feel and an incredibly cosy place to snuggle up in front of the fire. Of course the private garden was also a massive draw for relaxing and evening barbecues.
