About this property

Welcome to our beach front eco-friendly home in Bocas De Toro!

Welcome to a one of a kind surrealist adventure retreat! Our house boasts being the most artistic and best built in all of Bocas. Eco-friendly, of course. Enjoy your very own white sand beach, shade from the palms and spectacular coral reef just outside your door. The house is three stories with incredible views of the Zapatillas islands from your front balconies and natural jungle views from the back ones. The house is breezy with its open layout and beach front location. We have an option to add daily housekeeping and our boat captain will be available to take you on any tours you’d like during your stay!

The space:

Make yourself at home with our fully stocked kitchen and purified drinking water that runs right from every sink faucet! The house is three stories with two bedrooms on the top floor and one on the second along with the kitchen and living area. The bottom floor is a giant covered patio that leads to the beach. There are two bathrooms. Both equipped with outdoor showers so you can enjoy the jungle or beach while you bathe yet still have ample privacy.

Our house is stocked with snorkel gear, 2 two-seater kayaks, yoga mats + some workout weights for your use.

Interaction with guests:

Our care takers, Velimir + Fernando will be your points of contact during your stay. The house is yours to enjoy privately however, they will be available to take you on any tours or get supplies. They also are in charge of making sure all systems in the house are working great! For example, if it is a very rainy day, they may come by to start the generator to make sure you have ample power.

Guests have access to the entire house and property minus the lower level studio which has its own private entrance. Don’t worry - The studio is unoccupied, so no one will interrupt your stay!

The neighborhood:

The Island of Bastimentos has much to offer!

The house is located on a white sand beach near Salt Creek. The creek ends at a native village toward the interior of the island. This belongs to the Nobe tribe. The Nobe are your friendly neighbors and tourism helps their community grow and prosper. They are happy to show you around their community or take you on jungle hikes for a small fee that helps every family in the village.

You can also walk down the beach and run into a couple other great resorts and stop by for a drink! Al Natural is known for their scuba expeditions and we'd be happy to set you up for a dive. Azul Paradise is open for drinks + dining with advanced notice.

Please note: the island is full of life! You will have people and animals roaming the beaches. It’s part of our wonderful community and culture. Stop and say hi, buy the daily catch or a tasty coconut!

Getting around:

This is a remote island. The only way to travel is by boat. There are water taxis available while in Bocas Town or we are happy to arrange travel from our own boats as well. Pick up and drop off from Bocas airport is $160 round trip. We will take you to the grocery to stock up on supplies as well! The boat ride to Bay of the Floating Palms is approximately 30-45 minutes.

Other things to note:

Remember, this is island life - living off the grid!

The whole house is run by solar power and the water is filtered rain water.

You must shop in Bocas Town before you settle in. Our location is remote. There are no restaurants or stores on our part of the island. However, we can offer an authentic in-home chef for dinners!

Please be advised that cell phone service is limited. However, wifi works great!

Rustic charm in need of attention

We stayed four nights over New Years at Bay of the Floating Palms. The five star reviews set up very high expectations (and maybe some of them are from awhile ago) so I want to leave a more sober review. On the plus side: the house is beautiful, beds clean and very comfortable, the family of caretakers is wonderful, attentive and caring. Audrey, the owner, is responsive by WA text. When we complained about the condition of the property she did her best to accommodate our concerns. The house is located on a small beach on a remote part of Bastimos Island. There are 3 small eco-resorts a short distance walk from the house.

Beyond description

Often times the photos you see are better than the rental is in person. Not the case here! No photo could capture how amazing this house is and its surrounding location. We spent a week and had the most relaxing time filled with daily adventures. The house itself and the art work it contains are amazing. The surrounding jungle, beach and water are incredible. The family the owner has on site to assist with your needs are amazing. We felt extremely well looked after and were able to arrange for whatever we wanted. We were there during the rainy season, which it did, but only for a few hours each day. We are also not party people, so we really enjoyed the quiet nighttime jungle sounds and the crashing of the waves to reboot from our busy lives back home in the city.

great trip! beautiful house

A group of four, we stayed at Bay of the Floating Palms for 8 days. The house is amazing. No other way to describe it. Open and breezy (which kept the bugs down. We had no problems with bugs and didn't even need the nets). We lived and slept with the doors and windows open. Just amazing. The kitchen was pretty well stocked, but could use a few more basics like olive oil and salt and pepper, a couple of serving bowls, napkins and a corkscrew. And more wine glasses would be good as there are only two. Since the house is so remote there's not an opportunity to run out and grab supplies that were forgotten. But overall the kitchen was big and easy to use and had a gorgeous view. Lots of quality cookware. And, most importantly, a blender for cocktails. There are fins, masks and snorkels in a storage area on the ground floor. Beach chairs would be a great addition as we couldn't find any. If you're into snorkeling, the best places to go are Zapitillas island and Coral Caye. We also loved snorkeling in Dolphin Bay around the mangroves. There are probably other spots as well. The snorkeling in front of the house is kinda far out and ok, but not great. The beach in front of the house has really calm water for just floating and relaxing. I can’t speak highly enough about Velemir and Fernando, the caretakers. They really made this trip for us. Friendly, responsive, helpful and kind. They helped us find boat captains to take us to special snorkeling spots and were on hand to answer any questions or sort out any problems. A wealth of knowledge. We did one trip with Azul Paradise to the chocolate farm, Up in the Hills. One of our favorite excursions. Azul Paradise, right next door, is honestly kinda sketchy. Hit or miss. In the end we just avoided them and arranged trips through Fernando and his friends. Other than excursions we spent our time exploring the jungle paths, walking up and down the beach, trying to spot caiman and hummingbirds from the hammocks on the back porch and floating in the gorgeous blue waters. The dock was our go to place to watch sunsets and look for luminescence after dark. We loved the chocolate farm and snorkeling as mentioned above. Paddling through the mangroves to the Salt Creek community was nice too and not very far by kayak or by foot. A quiet village. Not much there except house, but charming. They have a few crafts to buy.

What makes this property unique

Our home is unique in that it is one of the very few in the area that has its own white sand beach. Marvel at the spectacular views that only where the jungle meets the sea can provide. Then admire the intricate mosaic art sprawling throughout the house! We also have an amazing crew to assist you during your stay. So, while you will enjoy your privacy, you will also have our trusted team (who are also native to the land) to help you with anything you may need.
