About this property

Peaceful But Centrally Located Dordogne Farmhouse with private heated pool..

LA PERODE:
La Perode is a recently renovated collection of old farm buildings nestling within the rolling Dordogne countryside, centrally located for a wide range of holiday activities. Built from the beautiful honey-coloured limestone that is a feature of the region, our Bread Oven (Maison du Pain) has enjoyed a major renovation which has brought the facilities up to exacting modern standards and provides exclusive use of the site facilities including the large, heated swimming pool. Set within ten acres of fields and woodland it is wonderfully peaceful, safe and cosy retreat whilst being central to all that the Dordogne region can offer.

FACILITIES:
The Maison-du-Pain (literally Bread House) is estimated to be at least 150-years old and underwent a three-year refurbishment that was completed in 2013. With the new extension it consists of five bedrooms and three bathrooms alongside a well-appointed kitchen and dining / living area that augments the two private terraces. The bedrooms range from a large en-suite four-poster with its own quiet terrace, through a spacious bedroom with high ceilings and exposed beams plus a lovely private balcony, to another double bedroom, again with exposed beams located within the old part of the building. A cosy children’s room sleeps up to three whilst a loft room with low timbers offers a great retreat for a teenager, so there is ample space for one or two extended families. A cot and high chair are also available, on request.
Central heating was installed in 2018 added for the comfort of low season clients.

Outside there is a large private terrace and seating area, partially covered, complete with BBQ and the original bread oven itself. A comfortable eight-seat round table with large umbrella provides the opportunity for wonderful alfresco dining and this sheltered and private area is a delight come morning, noon or night-time. Feel free to contact the owners who will be more than happy to help.

There are a wide selection of attractions for all the family within a short drive, whilst in-house facilities include a flat screen TV (with surround-sound), UK (or French) satellite channels plus a wide selection of DVD’s available on request. Wireless internet is available throughout the site, although we do hope you can leave the office behind.
A small handful of bikes are available, subject to a polite request to the owners, although a range of bikes can be rented locally or even delivered to site.

SWIMMING POOL:
During your stay you will enjoy exclusive use of the large 12m x 6m heated swimming pool (with easy access at one end via Roman steps) which for child safety is surrounded by a security fence. An automated pool cover was installed in 2022 to further enhance safety and maintain comfortable water temperatures. Adjacent to the pool is a summer kitchen that provides for the preparation and cooking of meals, whilst the overall pool area enjoys plenty of chairs and loungers for sun worshippers alongside shady nooks for the more sensitive of skin. The additional shower, toilet and games facilities may well result in much of your holiday being spent in this well-appointed area.

LOCAL FACILITIES:
The nearby village of Rouffignac is a short drive (or pleasant walk) away and can provide everything from your daily baguette to your weekly shop. Facilities include a boulangerie (specialising in exquisite pastries), a butcher and a supermarket, whilst several bar / restaurants provide a pleasant distraction, as does the busy weekly market on Sunday mornings. Although this market is held throughout the year, at the height of season it is not to be missed and the same market square hosts a number of night markets and other events over July and August. The Office de Tourisme is located near to the Mairie (Town Hall) although plenty of booklets are on hand to tempt you into day trips for sightseeing and partaking of the various local activities.

FURTHER A FIELD:
Nearby towns include Montignac and Le Bugue, which both sit astride the wonderful Vezere river. The world-famous Lascaux caves can be found near the former and for those interested in our Paleolithic ancestry they are a must-see, whereas Le Bugue offers a range of attractions including a superb aquarium and the Bournat theme park.
Regional capital Perigueux offers comprehensive shopping and tourist attractions and within an hour’s drive you will discover the delights of Bergerac and historical Sarlat. Much closer is Les Eyzies, a lovely village and site of the National Prehistoric Museum, and also a place where you can hire a canoe or kayak and enjoy a river picnic. Not forgetting the many local restaurants that will delight you with Perigordine specialities, and the vast vineyard regions where the famous Bergerac and Bordeaux appellations can be tasted.

Home from home, but much better!

We had a wonderful stay here. The Villa had everything we could need and the pool area was a popular hangout for BBQ, late night swimming and star gazing with the kids. Alec et Annie couldn’t have been more welcoming, it felt like we were visiting family. They gave brilliant advice and information. We were able to balance exploring the area and further afield to appreciate the beauty of the Dordogne, canoeing lots, and relaxing at the villa on other days. Would definitely recommend and visit again. Thank you

Truly special holiday

We had a fantastic week here with the whole family including a 2 year old and a 5 month old. Alec and Annie were extremely welcoming and accommodating to our requests which we are so grateful for. The pool was an absolute joy for everyone and all the little details had been thought of so we could fully relax with the kids. On top of the fantastic house, the location is superb - we had no where near enough time to see everything in the region so we will have to come back! Bergerac is beautiful, the many caves are amazing, the village is lovely and the nearby campsite has a little play park which the kids loved. A special holiday that we will not forget. Thank you Alec and Annie

Tolle Lage, gute Ausstattung

A recommander !

Great family holiday and excellent pool facility

We had a great holiday at La Perode. Alec and Annie were attentive hosts but not "in your face". The pool area is wonderful - a really good sized pool, super safe fencing and child proof gate, and everything you need in one place so you don't need to leave for snack and toilet runs.

Lovely property, lovely area, and great hosts

La Perode is lovely, with plenty of room to have your own space as couples if you want to, and all the facilities you need for hot days up at the pool. There's easy access to everyday shops, and more than enough to see and do within an hour's drive. Alec and Annie are gracious and helpful yet unobtrusive hosts, and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend a stay.

Beautiful property in peaceful surroundings with fantastic pool area.

We were a family of 8 adults and a dog. The owners (who live next door) were very welcoming and on arrival gave us a quick tour of the house and pool area. We immediately felt at home in the beautiful house and peaceful surroundings. During our stay we made plenty of use of the fantastic pool area with pool, sun loungers, and shady dining area with a huge gas BBQ, fridge and all the dining utensils you need. There is also table tennis which kept us amused at times. Everything for the house and pool area has been thought of and all of the fixtures, fittings and equipment are high quality. The owners are very discreet but also on hand for a friendly chat or to give help and advice. The property is ideally located to explore the surrounding area and everything that the Dordogne has to offer. Within walking distance there is a lovely little restaurant called l'Olive Bleue; we ate there a couple of times and the food was really good. It was a brilliant two weeks and we thought the house and pool were great value for money and better equipped compared to similar properties we have stayed in. Loved everything about this holiday and would definitely recommend to others.

Great place for a family to stay at in the Dordogn

A great time was had by us, our Son and Daughter in law and three Grandchildren during our stay at La Perode. The Area is outstanding with so many lovely Villages and Towns to visit and the facilities provided at La Perode met everything we were looking for. I would have no hesitation in recommending La Perode to others.

A great spot for a family holiday, with helpfull owners.

The property was well prepared for our arrival and the owners very welcoming. We were a family of 6 adults and 4 children and a dog. Everyone immediately enjoyed themselves and the pool area is great. The setting is very peaceful. There is a campsite about 5 minutes walk away with a bar and a good restaurant. There is also tennis there, but it was too hot for us to play. The pool was the better option. Roufficnac, the nearby town is lovely and there is a really good restaurant in the hotel la renaissance, when it is open. We walked there in about 15 mins. The location is central and we did not need to travel more than 40 mins anywhere when we wanted to explore.

Super séjour ! !!!

Excellent House that ticks all the boxes

We were lucky enough to spend the whole month of September at this property. The property was full of character but with excellent modern facilities. The three main bedrooms were very large with good showers, nice furniture, balconies and great views. There is also a good sized TV with UK channels - not that we watched it very much. The star of the show was the outdoor area which has everything you need - fridge, weber BBQ, changing room, large shower, table tennis table, kettle for making a cuppa - heaps of plastic crockery and we had lots of memorable lunches and evening BBQ's out here. The pool is an excellent size and well-maintained by Alec. It is also close to the house. Rouffignac had everything you need - excellent Boulangerie called Blondys - we recommend everything from the bread and cakes to their homemade quiche - friendly owners. The butchers was also excellent and the Carrefour local was large (you could do a weekly shop here - good wine section too) - also 24 hour petrol. The village has a few good cafes plus a greengrocers and a "Proxi" supermarket and a post office. There is an excellent market on Sunday mainly selling fruit, veg, cheese, sausage, duck (you are bombarded by duck products in this area of the dordogne), nougat, wine from local chateaux, hats, baskets. It takes about 25 mins to walk to Rouffignac from La Perode, which was perfect for us as we had a dog with us. It is also possible to do a reasonable walk (about a mile) with the dog around the footpaths surrounding La Perode. The drive along the lane approaching La Perode has fabulous views and sums up just how beautiful the countryside is in this part of the Dordogne. Their is also a camp-site on this road, but things did begin to close down by mid-September, so we didn't use the on-site restaurant there. This area is stunning with lots to do, canoeing, river boat trips on Dordogne, loads of walking on GR routes, beautiful towns and villages to visit - Sarlat is a must (quite busy and touristy but gorgeous), Montignac, St Leon Sur Vevere and further afield Rocamador is stunning. Local caves are worth a visit as is Chateau L'Herme and further afield Chateau Hautefort is in a stunning location. Make sure to have lunch - the french do it so well - and the costs were between euros 15 and 18 for 3/4 courses, but get there early! Alec and Annie were perfect hosts and nothing was too much trouble - very knowledgeable on the local area. Loved it all.

Ideal location in the Dordogne.

We were a family party of 8. We all slept comfortably with a bedroom to spare. The house was clean and tidy and well equiped. Everything was in good working order and we had the luxury of talking to the owners, who live close by, if we had any queries. We spent most of our time by the high standard swimming pool where all facilties were to hand. Fridge, barbecue, toilet, sink, table tennis , table & chairs, sunbeds, inflatables etc. Clearly the owners had thought of everything. I bought several decent table tennis bats before the holiday but I wasted my money because the bats there were better than mine! We spent hours in the pool and consumed a beer or two to cool off. Some of the family went horse riding and to the prehistoric caves . There is a very decent restaurant only 10 minutes walk from the house which we frequented as the food was excellent and good value. We had a pleasant morning at Rouffignac market which is about 7 minutes drive, although a few of us walked. We visited a few towns and villages in the area but sadly ran out of time to see everythying we wanted. On reflection, 1 week was no long enough. The owners, Alec & Annie. went out of their way to help us and we had a delightful and stress free holidat at La Perode. Jim Kearns

A perfect holiday location

We had a lovely family holiday at La Perode. The property was exactly as described on the website. It was clean, spacious and contained everything we could possibly need. The pool area particularly was wonderful and we had hoped to spend most of our time there, but unfortunately the weather was disappointing and we managed only a couple of visits. However on other days we visited the lovely Chateau et Jardins de Losse, a great aquarium at Le Bugue and the Rouffignac Caves, all thoroughly recommended. We loved wandering around the extensive grounds spotting the many different birds and butterflies. In the evenings we enjoyed sitting out with a glass of wine listening to the cicadas and other night sounds. Alec and Annie were the perfect hosts - always there to help but never intrusive. They are very kind and friendly. We would definitely recommend this property to friends and relatives and we hope return one day.

Great time

Accurate description. Clean. Owners on-hand and helpful but not intrusive. They were very receptive to feedback on kitchen equipment which at times was a little sparse for 9 - I have no doubt this will be attended to. The pool area set up is great. Really peaceful. Relaxing. Property renovated well. It would be a bit of a squeeze to have lots of people in the living room but plenty of space elsewhere. Nice to have hooks on the back of doors and it was all well lit. Went into Rouffignac a few times, including a never to be forgotten Wednesday evening market - we now have a new party game (you'll have to ask A & A). Bike hire available at reasonable cost from nearby campsite if you haven't brought your own. Good map for cycling on site. My son (12) said "it was amazing, and amazing fun for children and adults. Lots of places to visit, I had the best time." Don't try and get through Le Bugue on market day in the high season unless they've sorted out passing places for camper-vans. If you only have time for one cave, suggest you don't make it Rouffignac unless you can understand very muffled French announcements competing with the noise of the train - the audio guide is a waste of time - a leaflet would be better or find info from internet first. Very enjoyable. 4.5 out of 5

Fabulous!!

We spent a fabulous 2 weeks at La Perode this summer. The house had been newly renovated and was clean and fresh and Alex's attention to detail meant it was finished to a very high standard. There was plenty of space for our party of 9 with a very nice kitchen and lovely bedrooms. Set in huge grounds, we weren't overlooked and didn't need to worry about noise. The pool was a good size and the 'disco' pool lights were a big hit at night with the kids. There was plenty of comfortable pool furniture to relax in. But what made our holiday was the Abri. We lived outside for the 2 weeks and the outside kitchen with BBQ, fridge, washing up area and full dining table was just perfect. That alone would bring us back year after year. There was plenty to do in the area although the weather meant we've left plenty for future trips. With a good supermarket and Sunday market and boulangerie for bread in the morning all within a 5 minute drive, shopping was easy. Alex and Annie were perfect hosts, on hand to offer help and advice but happy to stay back and let us enjoy their lovely property. Thank you for a wonderful holiday. A bientot. Alison
