About this property

The Barn, 22 At The Beach - a house that sleeps 4 guests in 2 bedrooms

Around 11 miles from Dartmouth on South Devon's coast, lies the small village of Torcross. With its clear waters, three miles of shingle and a backdrop of countryside, it's the ideal setting for a quiet coastal retreat and one that understandably sees visitors returning to it year after year.

Set a few metres back from the sea front, this former coach building has been renovated to a high standard and incorporates original features that nod to its humble past. Combined with cool, contemporary touches as well as luxury fittings and furnishings, the mixing of old and new, historic and contemporary; creates a beautiful space to relax in and enjoy.

Accommodating four guests, this home has two spacious bedrooms with the master bedroom being located on the ground floor. Elegantly furnished with a king size bed, the room has adjustable lighting as well as an inviting fabric covered armchair and accompanying footstool; perfect for a quiet read or catching up on a crossword. A large window is set back into the thick stone wall inviting plenty of sunlight in, while a contemporary en-suite shower room adds further luxuriousness. Upstairs, the second bedroom has a bright and airy atmosphere. Furnished with two single beds and a crisp, neutral palette, it's a welcoming place that entices long morning lie ins or lazy breakfasts in bed. On this floor you'll also find a family bathroom as well as a beautiful, open plan designed living / dining area and kitchen. Exposed roof timbers, parquet flooring and recessed windows give it tons of character, with plenty of sumptuous seating and a wall mounted flatscreen television making it just right for a night in or to simply chill out and unwind.

Get creative in the modern and amply equipped kitchen which is fully fitted with a range of appliances and utensils that make culinary wizardry a cinch; then settle in for an evening around the super chic dining table and enjoy a boardgame, quiet drink or feast!

Please note, there is building work taking place to a nearby property behind The Barns At The Beach which may cause some noise disruption. For more information, please contact Luxury Coastal.

An Excellent Apartment by the Sea

The Barn 22 At the Beach is a lovely apartment right on the sea front at Torcross with parking in a garage and suitable for four people, although we were only a couple. The apartment is extremely comfortable: king-sezed double bed with en suite featuring a walk in shower. There is also another bathroom/shower room upstairs so if you're in the lounge area you don't have to go downstairs! Nice kitchen area and seating. Everything we could want for a long weekend break. Apartment was very well located as it's an easy walk along the sea front to the excellent Star Bay Inn (fish and chips to die for!), Slapton Ley Nature Reserve and two other cafes. Bus stop almost outside with an hourly service to Dartmouth or Kingsbridge: having an OAP bus pass, there was no need to take the car!! Just a couple of points. Measure your car before you book. Our Toyota Yaris easily fitted in, but anything much bigger and the driver would have difficulty getting out once in the garage. And with the apartments all taken, you have to use the garage. Perhaps a few more mugs and plates: fine for a couple, although even we used all the mugs in one day, and there is a dishwasher, but a few more would mean less washing up if there were four staying. And a few instruction manuals on the dishwasher/microwave/oven/hob for visitors who are not technically minded to work it out for themselves. No DVD player. TV has Netflix and Amazon Prime, but we don't subscribe so brought some favourite DVDs in case the weather was bad in March which obviously we could have used if bad weather had meant we couldn't go out. But overall an excellent choice for self-catering and for these days, reasonably priced and good value given the quality of the fixtures and fittings.

Short break away once kids have returned to school

Didn't disappoint had a. Lovely stay as always, only.downside had to inform Luxury Coastal that there was no fob for garage door as didn't want to get charged for it which they sorted but wasn't very easy climbing over car bonnet after closing door.

Beautiful, unspoiled area to stay in, good transport links

We found the property to be quite comfortable, and being fortunate to experience some warmer weather during our stay appreciated the main bedroom being downstairs, and thus cooler than upstairs which became quite warm at times. We made use of the bus service around the corner to get to other towns, since we didn't fancy tackling the tiny lanes on a daily basis! We spent time down at the nature reserve, spotting an unusual visitor to the area, a Eurasian widgeon, which seemed to have damage to its flight feathers. Crossing over the road, we could walk by the beach. We enjoyed great fish and chips at the Start Bay Inn, a lovely breakfast at the Boathouse, delicious cake and coffee at the Billy Can, and Sunday lunch at the Cricket Inn in nearby Beesands. The local farm shop was handy for food, and there are craft stalls there too. We appreciate a quiet area to stay in, and somewhere to enjoy a meal and a drink in walkable distance, and this lovely property gave us just that. Rooms were an excellent size, and the shower was fabulous. It was quite novel to have a garage to park in! Thank you for a very comfortable stay.

Mon to Fri short break

Barn is excellent close to beach and has parking a bonus (only problem no fob for garage door so had to climb over car bonnet so as to get out after using control inside) everything thing you need to use in kitchen etc. Only really bad thing was South Western Water working in main carpark from 6pm till 7am on one night horrendous so no sleep at all would have been nice to have been better informed as to what would have been going on instead of after our arrival as may have not bothered going

Fantastic Jewel!

This property lived up to every expectation we had. It was an extremely comfortable place to stay and a great base to explore this area of South Devon. The property was only one minute walk to the beach, which was even better than expected and there are many and varied places to visit close by. I would highly recommend this property. Some people have mentioned cobwebs at the property, and while there definitely were some high on the Velux windows which some people may find disconcerting, it was clear that the property was cleaned to a very good standard in all other areas.

Great stay

We had a lovely stay at 22 The Beach at Torcross. The only negative was that the property hadn’t been cleaned to a very high standard when we arrived. The bathrooms hadn’t been cleaned properly, there were still crumbs on the kitchen worktops and it hadn’t been dusted. Given that we are in the middle of a pandemic and properties should be well-cleaned I was very disappointed. Other than that the property was nicely furnished and in a great location. It was really lovely to be a few minutes walk from the beach. The property also has its own garage which is a bonus.
