Beautiful villa in Italy
Amazing views, wonderful villa, very nice host who helped us with everything, great wine tour, shared pool. Nice bar just 2 minutes away, cute little town. Just one remark: We were with 6 in the villa, while it could have 11 persons. There were only four beds at the pool, if we would have been with 11 it would have been very crowded at the pool, especially because you share it with four other appartments. But beside that we would recommend this to everyone!

A Slice of Paradise
It was everything and more of a perfect vacation! Tom and Colleen were available and most helpful for every little whim of ours. The villa was one of the most enchanting places we’ve ever stayed ! Perfect location for day trips. The reason for 4 stars out 5 for check in and village..we were lost trying to find, partly our fault. Loved the village but grocery and meat market had odd hours that we had hard time following. The visit to the local winery that Tom escorted us to was one of the highlights of our trip! We plan on staying again next year for sure!

A win, win stay in an Historic Villa!
What an amazing Villa built from an historic glass factory. It is set in a small village with beautiful views, friendly townspeople and close to amazing cities for day trips. The Villa itself is spacious and wonderfully appointed with large windows celebrating the lush Umbrian countryside. It comes complete with 2 of the nicest hosts you could ask for, Colleen & Tom. They live in the village and were very generous with their time. We were taken to the farmers market in a town near by, given a tour of the local glass factory, taken to a wine tasting with a tour included and given tons of information on surrounding towns. My family enjoyed the entire experience of feeling like we lived in rural Italy. So many amazing places near by made it the perfect location. We highly recommend a stay and can’t wait to return.

Exceeded Expectations
Everything about this villa was absolutely wonderful! The home was well stocked with everything you could need -- feel like making fresh pasta? -- they've got a pasta roller. There was never a moment where we said... Oh, I wish they had x, because they had everything we needed. The views were spectacular. The grounds were immaculate! There was an intense heat wave while we were there, but much like California wine country, the temperature drops significantly at night, so even with the historic heat wave, we were never uncomfortable. Coming home to the gorgeous pool was quite the luxury. We spent many evenings watching the sunset over the mountains from the pool (and they conveniently have the house stocked with many shatter-proof pool-safe drinkware for happy hour sunsets poolside. Tom and Colleen were the best hosts you could ask for. They were so very helpful. Definitely take their suggestions to go to the farmers market (we got some of the best fruits and vegetables, Porchetta, Prosciutto, buffalo mozzarella, ricotta, pecorino and more -- Plus, we found new sandals for our kids. Also, do take them up on the tour of Monte Vibiano. We were in Montepulciano on Wednesday and couldn't make their planned trip, but decided to go back later in the week and it is well worth the visit. The town of Piegaro is very small, but exceptionally charming. It feels like taking a step back in time walking through the streets. Echo's cafe is just down the street and is wonderful for a cappuccino, pastry, espresso, cocktail, wine, or light snack. Everyone was so friendly there. There are only a couple of restaurants very close to the house (and you really kind of need to drive to them). Technically, you can walk to Ristorante Da Elio, but there are no sidewalks and you're going down a steep hill -- which means you have to go back up a steep hill. La Locanda del Busta was about a 5 minute drive and was really really good. We were able to day trip to Perugia, Montepulciano, Orvieto, Citta Della Pieve, Chiusi and Sienna. Since Sienna was the furthest we worked in a stop at a thermal hot spring spa on the way home which was awesome to relax our tired muscles and to break up the drive. There are also thermal hot springs in Chianciano to check out.Getting there really wasn't hard at all. We were coming from the Amalfi coast and found a direct 3 hr fast train from Salero to Chiusi and for our departure we took a one hour fast train to Rome.

Amazing
Wow doesn't go far enough to describe this property & our AMAZING hosts Tom & Coleen. The apartment was beautiful with views to die for & very well equipped. The pool was great our 2 daughters spent most of their time in it!! The location is brilliant with a fab restaurant & bar within walking distance, the staff were very friendly, not forgetting the butchers, the sausages are a must. The local amenities are all very close , the water park is great. Would recommend the village tour given by Tom as it really helped us to find our way around. The wine tour Tom & Colleen took us to at Castello Monte Vibiano was fab, we will be back x

Fabulous spot in Umbria, amazing host
Unique! A beautiful conversion of an old glass foundry, right in the centre of a super little hilltop village with shops and bars. Lots to do in the area and the knowledgeable hosts enthusiastically organise a vineyard tour and pretty much anything else you want to do. Plenty of space for 2 or three families in the main villa where we stayed. Great cooking facilities in the villa with a grand table to eat at, although the restaurant and pizzeria (Echoes) a one minute walk away are superb, so hardly worth cooking - probably the best and certainly the cheapest pizzas we have ever had. Nice wine for 10 Euro (2019). Bedrooms are all ensuite, very nicely finished and there is plenty of space to spread out. There is a plentiful supply of reading material and guide books, both published and written by the hosts.

Amazing view in a charming village
This was the second week of our Italian vacation. Amazing home and masterfully renovated! Absolutely GORGEOUS! The villa over looks over the rolling hills of Umbria. Piegaro is a charming little village with only one restaurant and coffee shop. There are also two small markets, a pharmacy and a butcher. However, there are no boutiques or shops if one is wanting to buy anything other than food and necessities. Our four children ages 17-32 made friends with some of the locals. Our 86 year old father was also traveling with us. We had a great time visiting other towns, vineyards, and also taking the train for a day trip to Florence. Everyone we met including, the host was very friendly. However, this was advertised as All Amenities-Pool, Privacy, Views! Shops, Restaurants! We were visiting at the end of October, and the days were very warm, but the nights were cold. The pool was covered, and we were surprised as the pool was specifically marketed as part of the villa. It was not mentioned that there would be additional charges to turn on the heat on at night. Heat is regarded as a basic amenity. There was also an additional charge to use the dryer. We all felt the "closed pool" and "the additional charges for heat as well as use of the dryer" should have been discussed, prior to our stay, as the Villa was cold on two nights. Both of these "extra" charges resulted in a 4 star rating versus 5 stars.

La dolce vita
Two wonderful weeks spent in L'Antica Vetreria, Piegaro, one week each in il Forno and La Terrazza. Perfectly located, stylish and thoughtfully equipped, these apartments celebrate the history of the building and region, whilst providing all the mod cons. Colleen and Tom have thought of everything (& more!). From tours of the glass museum to trips to a vineyard, we loved it all. We would recommend day trips to Assisi and Orvieto, and for those who wish to venture further afield, Rome was truly memorable. Trips aside, this is the perfect place to relax and unwind from the daily stresses and strains: panoramic views, swimming pool, amazing food and vino rosso. What's not to love! Sadly it's back to reality now for us, but already dreaming of returning to the Umbrian Hills! ~ The Law family

Fantastic villa & location.
The renovation was fantastically done and the space was ideal for our party of 10. The restaurant in the village was superb. Tom and Colleen were great hosts, they keep the villas stocked with the essentials and were on hand to provide recommendations on places to see, their wine trip is a must. Piegaro is an ideal spot to explore from. Overall an absolutely tip top holiday, many thanks. Gavin

Beautiful property located in a beautiful village.
The villa was great with a fantastic view overlooking gorgeous countryside. The pool was great as well and kept my grandsons busy. There is no A.C. so when it was hot out it got a little warm inside. No unbearable but uncomfortable. Our rooms were all spacious with modern bathrooms. The kitchen, dining area and living room were all spacious and nicely decorated. The village was wonderful. You could really take in the local atmosphere and interact with the residents. This was a bonus treat that all my family enjoyed. The local restaurant was great. Not fancy but family friendly with great food and really reasonable prices. The highlight of the week was our dinner with Salvatore, a local chef we hired for one night to make us dinner in the villa. The food was fantastic and was so wonderful to work with. I would have taken him home with me but his wife would object. We had a fantastic time.

A stunning masterpiece of vision and historic reco
A stunning masterpiece of vision and historic reconstruction This place simply has to be seen to be believed... imagine a medieval glass factory, with huge spaces simply falling to ruin, unused ovens and arched ceiling, a space sitting vacant since WW2. And two slightly deranged/inspired Americans see it and think ... Eureka! And, Eureka it is. This place is simply wonderful... the touches of medieval alongside modern... it emphasizes comfort and accessibility, while surrounding you with a glimpse of life centuries old. We had moments of simple amazement... and thankfulness -- that the hosts, Collen and Tom, were as resourceful and creative as they were to bring this property to visitors. This is one memorable "stay" -- you'll never forget it. Thank you, Collen and Tom!

L'Antica Vetreria is so delightful. The hosts, Tom and Colleen, make you feel like family. Daily excursions to vineyards, ancient walled cities, outstanding restaurants. Oh, and shopping, too. You can choose pottery in Deruta, ship wine home from Monte Vibiano, cashmere and leather in Cortona...the list is endless. Colleen gives a marvelous tour of the glass factory in Piegaro just steps from the Vetreria. This our second stay and we wil be back

Memorable and as Special as any in Italy.
After a wonderful and extroadinary 5-day stay in Venice, we planned a 1-week stay at L'Antica Vetreria in Piegaro. We were a little skeptical about leaving the Wow! factor of Venice for this little historical glass- blowing hilltop town. We had been to Orvieto in 2005 and from there enjoyed so many day trips to such beautiful cities as Assissi, Perugia, and other smaller cities. Suffice it to say that this week in Piegaro was as memorable and special as any we've enjoyed in Italy. No small part of this was the hospitality of the owners (Tom and Colleen), in assisting with any guidance and direction we required. At the Villa, they introduced us as if we were visiting family. We immediately felt a part of this small community, with welcome smiles and Warm "Buon giornos". The Villa itself was gorgeous, functional and with historical significance, having welcomed the exodus of the Murano glass-blowing artisans from centuries earlier. The non-functioning glass kilns still exist in parts of the Villa, and a modern museum memorializes this history within the town. Beyond the offerings of this quaint town, and within a short ride of 3/4 to 1-1/4 hours are many beautiful cities which we drove to for lunch or a tour. Some of note were: Pienza, Panicale, Paciano,Citta della Pieve, Cordova (in Tuscany, close by), Chiusi, Castiglione del Lago, et al. The maps and directions from the owners, T &C were extremely helpful. They even arranged trips to an award winning winery and olive grove. After tastings, we were hard pressed (pun intended) to not order some for home delivery. Lastly, an example of how caring our hosts were: I had the misfortune of cracking a tooth in half on the Thursday before leaving for our last week near Rome. Imagine this changing our enjoyment potential for our last 10 days in Italy! The owners to the rescue. They pulled a few strings to get me an urgent dentist appointment, translated for me and Tom actually drove me to Perugia and back, committing an afternoon to help me. Nice! Compassionate and very appreciated. PS the doc charged me 60 Euros ! We plan to look at the calendar for a 2016 return to enjoy the region, and to be with our new and good friends.

Fabulous Villa
Our second time to L'Antica Vetreria and it was just as good as the first. I cannot say anything bad about the resort. Tom and Colleen are gracious hosts who we get along with very well. The units comfortably sleep 4 as we have 2 teenage daughters and we had plenty of room. Piegaro is a great little village very safe and the locals are extremely nice. Having a car is an asset but not mandatory it just enables you to explore the beautiful hill towns surrounding Piegaro and there are many! We are looking forward to returning once again.

Idyllic place, beautiful village, lovely people
From the moment we arrived at Piegaro we were made to feel welcome by Tom and Coleen. They willingly showed us around L'Antica Vetreria and the village and we were smitten from there. Our apartment Il Forno Due was perfect for us. The views are stunning and everything you need is supplied, and if its not you only have to ask. The heart of the village is a few steps, away but you have the quiet and privacy of L'Antica when you want it. Everything is kept clean and tidy and Tom and Coleen are on hand to sort any issues out anytime. We went on the wine tour and loved it so much we went a second time too. Coupled with the wine tour was a visit to an authenic gorgeous Umbrian restaurant. Just perfect. We got engaged whilst we were there so it really holds a special place in our heart and we have already booked to go back next year. I'm counting the days.

L'Antica Vetreria
Our stay at L'Antica Vetreria, in June 2012, was beyond our expectations. What a paradise carved into the village of Piegaro. The villa was centrally located as we took day trips to Rome, Florence, Assisi, and Cortona to name a few. The accommodations at the villa were excellent. The pool was refreshing after site seeing in 90 degree weather. The locals were gracious and entertaining. Tom was a great host as he took us on tours of the village and winery. His knowledge of the area and history of the towns was very informative and interesting. Colleen and Tom go above and beyond for their guests. We will definitely be back. Tony and Nancy Fiore

A supurb place to stay in a wonderful location
Accommodation at L’Antica Vetreria in Piegaro, Umbria is available in different configurations for from 2 to 10 people. We had a group of 10 to share the Villa for 2 weeks. It certainly lived up to our expectations, with 5 double ensuite bedrooms, a well-equipped kitchen, and comfortable, spacious communal living areas on two levels. Outside there is a terrace and barbecue, and a pool. The location is within a village but it is very peaceful and has gorgeous country views across the valley. Colleen and Tom were very welcoming and attended to our occasional problems very quickly. They introduced us to the shopkeepers in the little village and the people who live there, who are very friendly. Piegaro makes a good base to explore the many delights of Umbria and Tuscany, and Colleen and Tom have many suggestions to help their guests. Highly recommended. This was a holiday that will live in the memories of our group for ever.

Perfect Visit to Umbria
My family and I rented the Villa at L'Antica Vetreria for the first week of June 2012 and it comfortably accommodated all ten of us. It was the perfect spot for a family reunion, with my sister and her family renting the Cantina apartment next door. Having the warmth and convenience of a charming medieval Umbrian village right outside our door was fantastic. The Villa ia magnificent with gorgeous views from every room. Tom and Colleen are knowledgeable and friendly, and really went out of their way to help us. A truly special property!

Magical, One-of-a-Kind Place
I don't know if I am a poetic enough writer to do justice writing about this property. Not only is there beauty to the eye in the unique, historical building, in the gorgeous views, and in the sweet village, there is also beauty for the soul in all of these elements. An experience like this is my favorite way to travel: some days my family took day trips to local sites and played tourist; other days we hung around the village, being a part of everyday community life. For the owners of this property, Colleen and Tom, this endeavor is so much more than a business; it is a passion of the heart that is evident in every detail, large and small. They are completely accessible by email, phone, or in person to share their joy and knowledge of the region, the people, and each and every logistical question you can throw their way. I traveled here with my husband and 6-year-old son, and we all found something to enjoy, and we all wished we could stay much, much longer than we were able. I can't imagine not visiting here again.

I spent one week at il Forno Uno in May 2010 and I most say I was very impressed with the property itself, the apartment, the owners and the quaint village of Piegaro. The apartment was lovely with plenty of room, great amenities and a fabulous view of the Umbria countryside. We were able to do many day trips from here and explored beautiful hilltowns, a winery and just drove around enjoying the beautiful views everywhere you looked. Collen was the perfect hostess helping us with every little detail. I highly recommend this property and plan to come back!

I dream of Piegaro
We'd love to see more of Italy, but we keep getting pulled back to the beauty and relaxation of this amazing place! With a dreamy view out the window, the villa is located in a perfect village, with plenty of opportunities to explore beautiful towns like Cortona, Lago Trasimeno, Perugia, Chuisi, Montepulciano and Panicale. However, when you need a mellow day the villa and Piegaro are perfect for just hanging out, playing music, dipping in the pool, and cooking up a big family meal. We stayed here with a large family group and were all comfortable and are absolutely amazed at the history of l'Antica Veteria. Collen and Tom are true visionaries and have created a wonderful oasis for creating beautiful family memories.

Host profile image
We are presently living our dream full time in the amazing village of Piegaro! We love to greet our guests, give advice, teach pasta lessons and generally live the good life in a wonderful village where our friends and neighbors are so welcoming of us and also of our guests. Originally from Seattle we always dreamed of living in Italy someday. It is important not only to dream but to chase that dream with great passion! We love to share this passion with our guests from over 24 different countries.

Why they chose this property

It called to us! This vast abandoned glass factory which was the single most historic property in a pristine little perched hilltop village in Umbria on the border of Tuscany. We spent our honeymoon in Umbria in 1994 and fell in love with this region. After searching for 10 years we found our little piece of paradise! We lovingly restored it to become a beautiful and authentic destination for guests.

What makes this property unique

Every evening the sun sets over the vast panoramic views from the windows and terraces of L'Antica Vetreria. The idyllic countryside is always tranquil and inviting. From the pool one can enjoy privacy and the expanding view over farmlands and hillsides filled with olive groves, vines and sunflower fields. But nearby is the lively piazza with its shops and gourmet restaurants with outdoor terraces. Each evening one can sit in the piazza and watch the village children play, the elders take their evening walk and feel totally welcomed with warmth. We love to live the authentic life of Italy which cannot be done isolated in the countryside. This way we have the views and tranquility of the country, but the daily rhythms of village life. Everything you need is within these historic stone walls!
