About this property
Two bedroom stone cottage near Dartmoor and Devon beaches
Shippon Cottage is part of a 17th Century Manor House and is located within a walled courtyard shared by two other cottages with its own private access and car parking facility. The building was previously part of a large working farm and the 'Shippon' is where the sheep would have been kept and fed. It has recently been completely refurbished and boasts a new kitchen and bathroom along with a lounge and two bedrooms. There is one double bedroom and the other has twin single beds.
The cottage is located close to the main A38 which goes to Plymouth and Cornwall so access to the tourist sites of Devon and Cornwall is very easy. It is within walking distance of the town of Ashburton, known for its Antiques Trail and long history as the centre of the wool and mining industries of days gone by. It is also within walking distance of a pub/restaurant at Furzeleigh Mill as well as the town of Buckfastleigh which hosts the South Devon Steam Railway running to Totnes. Access to Dartmoor is within ten minutes by car and the beaches of South Devon are less than half an hour's drive.
We are currently ensuring that the property remains empty for 36 hours between each guest in order to minimise the risk of Covid19 transmission.

Cottage was very clean, all as stated on the website and ideal for us to check around the south Devon coast from a great base, would definitely recommend.
Beautiful spacious cottage, that had everything we needed. Very comfortable beds, great location. Mark and Helen were extremely welcoming and very informative, particularly regarding places of interest, including eateries suitable for specific dietary requirements. We definitely plan to stay again in the future and would highly recommend.
This is our second holiday in Shippon cottage this year. We love how well appointed and comfortable it is and nothing is too much trouble for the owners who have an excellent knowledge of and passion for this beautiful part of Devon. We'll be back!
We spent 4 wonderful days here at Shippon cottage which has been sympathetically renovated to a very high standard. If you love period features without compromising on luxury this is the perfect place. The owners have thought of everything to make your stay really comfortable and we loved the modern kitchen which was perfectly equipped to allow easy cooking and dining. Its a great location and only a short drive to many places of interest and the coast. We could not recommend more highly and would not consider staying anywhere else when we return to this beautiful part of the world. Thanks to Helen and Mark for doing such a wonderful job and creating such a special place to stay.
We had a great stay in the cottage which has been recently refurbished, it had everything we needed for our stay and all the rooms were very clean and well presented. The open plan living room and kitchen were upstairs with 2 bedrooms and a bathroom downstairs. A great courtyard to relax or dine out , weather permitting.
The location is very rural with 2 small towns nearby. A car is much recommended as the cottage is some way from everything and I am not sure about public transport.
The location is very good as a base to see the sights of Devon but remember a lot of the roads are rural and be prepared to pull over for oncoming cars.
I would definitely recommend staying at one of the cottages here and you will have a great stay.
It was really nice holiday at Shippon Cottage. Very cosy cottage with fully equipped kitchen. We explored most of the south Devon and it was quite easy to do so because of the great location of the cottage. Thanks to Helen and Mark for making it very easy to check in and check out!
We have just returned from a week's holiday which was perfect in every way! From the outset, everything went smoothly: booking was easy and Mark was always extremely quick to reply to our queries. Helen's warm smile and friendly greeting at check-in set a lovely tone; we knew we had made a great choice. Shippon Cottage exceeded our expectations: it's a spacious, sympathetically, beautifully restored animal barn with many quirky features retained. Our four year old granddaughter adored it and very quickly made herself at home in the large twin-bedded room, although her favourite feature was the arrow-slit-like windows. The cottage was spotlessly clean, very well-equipped - even down to things like dishwasher tablets, washing pods, liquid soap, cling film and foil - and had a lovely little welcome pack, luxurious towels and quality bedding The setting was tranquil and the location perfect for visiting so many of the great attractions and beautiful countryside that South Devon has to offer. We had such a brilliant time that we are trying to work out how we can wangle another visit; in the meantime, we will be recommending it to our family and friends. Thank you, Helen and Mark, for letting us stay in your perfect Pridhamsleigh property!
We cannot recommend a stay at the Shippon Cottage enough. The property is beautifully furnished and the owners very friendly. The location was ideal for visits to the coast as well as Totnes & Plymouth. The local area is beautiful and with ample parking and every home comfort you would need in the property, it has made for an amazing stay. Thank you
Our stay in June 2021 warrants a review. The barn had everything you would want and more. The owner has thought of everything, especially in the kitchen. The courtyard area is beautiful and a sun trap. I will definitely stay here again.
A lovely relaxing place to stay. Beautiful old barn in a courtyard setting, very tastefully furnished and very comfortable. Mark and Helen have thought of everything,: a generous welcome pack, dish washer tablets, washing up liquid,. soft towels beautiful sheets and many others things that you normally you have to provide. . They are also extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the area, . Helen recommended a beautiful walk and very kindly left a map and route plan on our doorstep.. They certainly go the extra mile to ensure you have everything you need .A big recommendation from us
The property is well equipped for 4. It is nicely furnished, well equipped and spacious. Everywhere is very comfortable and the heating works well.
Plenty of opportunities to have a local walk, visit two local centres, access the moor within a few minutes and only about half an hour from the sea.
Cozy cottage that we felt we could actually live in. The location is perfect for trips out around Devon and Dartmoor is your garden. Our hosts were amazing couldn't thank them enough. We will be re visiting next time we stay in the area.
The cottage has been renovated beautifully, it has everything you need and is in a very quiet location surrounded by countryside but with lots of attractions and pubs close by. The complimentary snacks including a freshly baked loaf were much appreciated! The owners were always prompt responding to any queries before we arrived. A perfect getaway!
Stayed here for 5 nights with 2 children, the cottage was lovely and very clean. On arrival there was a welcome package of milk, tea and bread which was a nice touch especially after travelling a long way.
The owners Mark & Helen were very accommodating and helpful. Location was very good easy to get to most places.
We look forward to staying here again.

Why they chose this property
Pridhamsleigh has a long, fascinating and sometimes tortuous history and we were immediately drawn to maintaining it in order to share the experience of Devon with our guests. There is so much to see and do nearby that makes every day a rewarding one.
What makes this property unique
Pridhamsleigh Caverns, the local walks, Ashburton, walking on Dartmoor and visiting the coast are all part of the unique mix that draws visitors here year after year.
