Packet House - a holiday cottage that sleeps 4 guests in 2 bedrooms

Packet House is one of a collection of refurbished listed buildings in an historic area of Castletown in the south of the Isle of Man. Formerly the headquarters of the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company, the oldest continually operating passenger shipping company in the world. Castletown itself is full of history and the home of a number of Manx National Heritage sites.

Packet House has been lovingly refurbished to a very high standard, with 2 double bedrooms (plus a separate infant nursery) and a comfortable open plan lounge and dining area.

Sit and enjoy the fantastic views over the harbour and across to Castletown bay from the protruding viewing gallery, part of the large open plan living area. Next door is Ellan Vannin, which sleeps 6 so could be booked together for a larger group.

Castletown is a great base for a holiday, just 5 minutes from the airport and with a wide range of bars, restaurants and cafes close by. The historic Steam Railway runs through the town connecting it with the islands capital, Douglas and the seaside villages of Port Erin and Port St Mary.

Wonderful Stay

We had a wonderful stay at the Packet House. The home is well appointed and beautiful. The view is spectacular! The location is perfect too. We are so happy we chose Packet House and will definitely book again if we find ourselves back on the Isle of Man.

Set over 3 floors, the box window allows for some fabulous views of the harbour and Castletown Bay. It has been tastefully decorated throughout and provides everything you could need for your stay. We had a wonderful stay and will likely return. The previous occupants had taken the parking permit home with them and the Island escapes team did everything they could to promptly provide a new one. My only recommendation is to check under the beds as it was a bit dusty.

Great for a family break

We had a wonderful week at Packet House, the accommodation was beautifully appointed. The views over the harbour and out to sea and Langness we spectacular as were the sunsets. Accessible free parking and all the necessary amenities in Castletown too.

Great holiday in great place

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Packet House . From the 2nd floor sitting room you have wonderful views of sea and countryside and can watch the boats. The house is beautifully furnished and well equipped but if you don't want to cook there are restaurants nearby. We've booked for next year!

Stunning views

We and our friends - who had never been to the Isle of Man - absolutely loved this property. It was spotless with great bedrooms and en-suites. But the best bit is the large and sleek top floor kitchen/diner/lounge which has the most beautiful outlook to the sea, the port and the hills. All this and it is round the corner from pubs,restaurants and shops.

Wonderful holiday house

First holiday on the IOM. We thought best location not only in Castletown but on the whole island. In the historical centre of Castletown with excellent public transport to see the whole island. Packet House itself is wonderful- refurbished to a very high standard with a second floor living room overlooking the harbour. Island Escapes were very helpful in arranging a slightly later checkout after a flight cancellation. Only slight niggle was lack of hanging racks for towels and wet outdoor clothing, but this didn’t detract from a very enjoyable stay.

A fantastic place...

Amazing views, right next to everything, whilst still being quiet in the evenings. The place has everything you need and everything you don't need, just to delight and please you. It's on 3 floors and whilst the quilts were not to my personal tog rating or the sofa not to my own comfort level, everything else made it the best house I've stayed in on the island (so far - we're regular visitors). Morning coffee, a visit to a castle, a stroll around the town and a swinging seat on the seafront to eat our ice cream, all within a few steps. The house has a lovely history and is spotlessly clean and modern inside. Thank you Island Escapes, yet again, for a fantastic stay.

The house was and in a good area. Nice view of the water

The house was nice clean and well appointed. We had a nice sea view and the unit is well located in Castletown. Everything worked well for the exception of the Nespresso machine. They came to look at it and said it worked fine.. But found water leaked out from the machine somewhere. Besides that the it was a great place to stay.

Very pleasant stay

We had a lovely, short staycation at Packet House. The property is very well furnished, comfortable and homely, very much ‘home from home’. The views from the bay window are beautiful. It’s ideally located in Castletown, a short walk from the shops, pubs and restaurants in town etc. There are some stunning walks in the area which is a great bonus.

Fabulous house, fabulous views.

This was our second stay in Packet House and it is without doubt our favourite ‘staycation’ house’. Everything in the house is finished to a very high standard, very comfortable beds with beautiful high quality bed linen, well equipped shower rooms with underfloor heating. The top floor is the icing on the cake, the views are just spectacular from dining area in the large bay window, looking across to Langness and out to sea one way and up the harbour towards the hills the other way. We made good use of the cosy log burner on the nights we were in, also the extremely well equipped kitchen which has everything you could need. Very convenient for all the pubs and restaurants both in Castletown and, a short bus ride away, Port St Mary and Port Erin. Fabulous walks from the front door. Highly recommended.

Another wonderful two weeks spent in Packet House. Most comfortable accommodation, with high-end appliances and furnishings. The views over the harbour are the icing on the cake! Next year’s stay here is already booked - that says it all!

Perfect holiday

Beautifully furnished house in a great location. Waking up to the sun rising over the harbour is priceless. Parking nearby and easy road access to the whole island. Short walk to the train as well. Good food in the town.

First time to the IOM

This property is excellent for two couples being able to have our own bathrooms. You would need to be fit as the living part in this accommodation is on the third floor, an advantage to see the harbour and the wonderful view. The only downfall is the sofa is quite low and very uncomfortable and the WiFi faded out, no good to watch catch up TV.

Fantastic Property

Packet House is a fabulous property, well located, with super views and top spec inside. The upside down nature of the property allows for the best views over the harbour and out to sea. The location is quiet, however with the town on the doorstep. We also found the staff at Island Escapes to be very helpful with a query we had about the property - very professional and friendly service. Will definitely book this property through Island Escapes again.

Classy apartment on Castletown Harbour

Very smart and comfortable apartment, with great views from the top-floor living room bay window. Perfect accommodation for two couples - provided you are OK with the steep and narrow staircases, since the apartment is on 3 levels.
