High Haven is set in the centre of Amble, a friendly village with a working harbour, small beach, boat trips and busy Sunday market. Amble lies at the start of the Heritage Coastline, which stretches up to Holy Island. Miles of unspoilt beaches with historic castles, village inns and restaurants are set along this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Amble is known as the friendliest port and the small pod-style shops down on the harbour are full of arts and crafts, and set next to the lobster hatchery. A bustling Sunday market is popular with both locals and visitors alike, where there is a fishmonger, butcher and lots of stalls. There are some excellent restaurants and cafés, some of which specialise in locally caught fish, and there is also an award winning ice cream parlour as well as fish and chip shops, so there is something for all tastes and ages. You can even hire a pretty little beach hut for the day from the harbour commissioner.
Warkworth village is only 2 miles away where the impressive castle dominates the skyline with a picture-postcard centre with a pretty riverside walk, galleries, independent shops, pubs and cafés. The energetic can walk from Amble along the estuary to Warkworth leaving the car behind. Alnwick Castle, used as a film set for Harry Potter scenes, is only a few miles away, and together with The Alnwick Garden, makes a lovely day out.
The popular villages of Craster, Seahouses and Bamburgh are all within easy driving distance. Nearby Alnmouth is ideal for catching a train to Edinburgh, Newcastle or York if you want to travel further afield. Newcastle-upon-Tyne is easily reached, where you can admire the historic streets or visit the Theatre Royal, The Baltic Art Centre or just sit and watch the world go by at the quayside in one of the lovely cafés or bars. Amble is a great location from which to explore all of the county inland to the hills and valleys, or over to the Northumberland National Park for a day out - nothing is too far away! Well behaved furry friends are most welcome but dogs are not permitted on any furniture or to be left in the cottage unattended. The cottage owners are happy to provide dog minding or walking by private and advance request for a small charge. Beach 1/2 mile. Shop, pub and restaurant 100 yards.
