New Cottage lies in the heart of the village, away from the road, with a gravelled drive leading up to the enclosed front garden. Standing semi-detached, it has a patio with a seating area, where you can take in the sunshine. Stepping inside, you are welcomed by the quintessential country interior, complete with a wood burner and beamed ceiling. The original stone building has a long history, which can be traced back hundreds of years, with extensions which have been added to make the property more spacious and comfortable. The property layout is on many different levels, which adds to its character. The open plan living room is welcoming and has a delightful rural view; from the comfortable sofas you can watch either the TV or the curling flames of the wood burner. A dining table next to the window allows you watch the grazing sheep whilst you enjoy your meal too! The well-equipped, country kitchen is on a raised level just off the living area, and has a breakfast bar making this a sociable space. Steps lead from the living area to a hallway, with a door off to a shower room. Up a few stairs and along a landing is the first bedroom, with a small double bed. A second separate staircase leads from the living room to the galleried master bedroom with a Velux window, so you can look up into the stars. A perfect choice for couples, with the option of an additional guest. There is also a rear garden, accessed by a side path, with views over the countryside.
This is a fabulous area for exploring. Egton is a traditional Yorkshire village, with a choice of friendly local pubs serving hearty home cooked meals. Historic Whitby is 7 miles and Robin Hood’s Bay, Sandsend, Runswick Bay and Staithes are all within an easy reach.
Dalby Forest offers cycling and walking trails, as well as a zip line course through the tree tops. You can hire a canoe or a rowing boat in Ruswarp to take in the sights along the river Esk. Grosmont is under 2 miles away, where you can catch a train on the Esk Valley Railway to Whitby or ride the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, with the heritage steam train taking you on a scenic journey from Whitby to Pickering, visiting beautiful little villages en route, including Goathland which was featured in Harry Potter films and the TV series ‘Heartbeat’.
Take in the sights on walking trails at Falling Foss, with its waterfalls in the woodland; the Hole of Horcum, which is a huge valley popular with day trippers; the Cleveland Way wending its way across the moors and cliff tops, or the panorama from Roseberry Topping. History lovers can visit Whitby Abbey, Guisborough Priory, or Ryedale Folk Museum in the pretty village of Hutton-le-Hole. After a day of discovery, you’ll need somewhere to unwind in comfort, and New Cottage is ideal, being sure to steal a little piece of your heart. Beach 7 miles. Shop 2¼ miles, pub and restaurant 175 yards.
