About this property

Les Moineaux La Ferme des Tourterelles

Les Moineaux (The Sparrows) has been awarded four keys by Clévacances. Clévacances in association with the Department of Tourisme has been set up to establish and ensure a consistent and high level of quality accomodation for guests.
Les Moineaux sleeps four and comprise two large en-suite bedrooms. The contemporary bathrooms comprise a bath, with shower, handbasin and toilet as well as hair dryer. The main bedroom has a king size bed and satellite TV. The second bedroom with two single beds can accommodate a third bed if requested. Crisp white cotton sheets are provided along with towels. There is a large open plan living area with adjoining fully-fitted kitchen, dining area and lounge equipped with satellite TV, DVD and internet access. The old oak beams are visible on the first floor providing old world charm.
In front of the gite is a terrace with wooden garden furniture and parasol. Privacy is offered by the surrounding flower beds and trellis supporting climbing plants.

Set on the borders of a regional park and champagne vineyards, La Ferme des Tourterelles provides an oasis of calm. There are four cottages recently converted from barns, sleeping 8-10, 6-7, 4-5 and 4 people, each decorated to a high standard providing all comforts. Each have their own private terrace surrounded by honeysuckles and roses. They line a courtyard and all have access to the large garden and outdoor heated swimming pool which have fabulous views of the rolling hills of forest and arable fields.

You can relax on one of the many terraces, play games such a table-tennis or boules. There is much to occupy you from visiting the medieval towns of Bar-sur-Aube or Troyes, shopping in the biggest factory outlets at Troyes, having fun at Nigloland the 3rd largest amusement parks in France, following the champagne route discovering great good value champagnes, walking or cycling in the countryside, or partaking in the water sports on the lakes in the Regional Park nearby.

La Ferme des Tourterelles at Eclance: We are situated in Eclance on the borders of the champagne producing region and the ParkRegional Naturel of the Forest d'Orient. Eclance is a small village nestling in a large clearing surrounded by woods and rolling countryside. It is predominantly a village based on agriculture. La Ferme des Tourterelles used to house dairy cattle whose milk was used by the Eclance cheese maker to make a cheese well known in these parts. Whilst we have been able to revive at least the farm buildings, the cheese maker is now no longer in existance.

Our gardens and pool look out onto the forest of the Regional Park, with the forests and its wildlife protected as a Natura 2000 site. Wildlife is abundant with the seasons greeting different birds as they migrate across our region. Deer and wild boar can also be seen.

For those who book a week at La Ferme des Tourterelles, a bottle of champagne is on offer from our favourite champagne makers Philippe Legout from Rouvres-les-Vignes.

Very nice accomodation & host

We loved our stay at this beautiful accomodation, super friendly host Sarah and awesome pool! Only minus is that smoking is allowed on the terraces by the appartments, maybe a point to take into consideration for the future to create an smoking area far from the appartments…

Fabulous

The properties are immaculately presented and cleaned to the highest standard. They are spacious and furnished to a high standard with everything you could need. A fabulous swimming pool which our children loved and the table tennis and boule pitch were much enjoyed. The location of the property is perfect for visits to the lakes which were lovely and warm and great for water sports. Sarah and James are really helpful and were always on hand to answer any queries. We hope to have a return visit.

A wonderful retreat with everything needed onsite.

We booked one of the smaller properties but this would be a great venue if you needed multiple properties for family or friends. Lovely landscaping with lavender and honeysuckle that gave privacy as well as smelt wonderful especially around the pool. Sarah and James always on hand for queries or replenishment of local champagne!

Lovely, peaceful, fun and picturesque

My wife and I stayed with our 3 children for a week. The cottage was well equipped and spacious and the grounds we’re beautiful. The swimming pool was a very good size for playing around in or just swimming for exercise. Nigloland theme park was only a 10min drive and had plenty of rides for all ages. We also enjoyed the nearby lake ‘Lac d’Orient’ with sandy beaches and had great fun hiring out a pedalo and slide. I’d recommend the cottages and we hope to come back again in the future.

Tranquil and beautiful. A place to return to

The description of the property was accurate. It was exceptionally clean and well appointed. Well furnished throughout with quality furniture and lots of extras everywhere. The photos dont do it justice. Plenty of utensils in the kitchen. The private patios outside each property are fantastic for outdoor eating and relaxing. Baguettes, croissants etc can be arranged delivered to your door nearly every day. This was our third visit. That in itself says how much we love Les Tourterelles. James and Sarah are very helpful with any questions. Any problems within the property were sorted instantly. eg replacement of the gas in the kitchen. Sarah is well informed about the local area and will supply information and maps for walks and places to visit. They are not intrusive though. The atmosphere is friendly - a barbeque was arranged for all the families which we all contributed to. The pool and loungers is a favourite of ours too. It is clean and plenty of loungers with comfortable cushions and parasols. There are lots of family games available to use in the large garden. There is also a table tennis table which is good fun. The views from the garden are lovely and we loved our evening walks round the village. There is peace and tranquility here at the property, but activities within a short drive if that is what you wish. There is also outlet shopping at the beautiful town of Troyes. Food shopping is a short drive away.

Tranquil location, beautiful cottage

The listing for this cottage and shared amenities was accurate. The cottage was clean, had good quality furnishings & linens. The kitchen has all utensils we needed. The pool (warm clean & large,) table tennis, badminton and boules provided fun activities for our teenage daughters. The views from the property are lovely. There is so much sky! Stargazing was our way of closing each day. The roads around the village were very quiet so jogging and cycling was stress free. We cycled some of the champagne route and to the lakes. Local towns and villages were quiet, we made the mistake of visiting between 11:30 and 3 pm and of course shops and businesses close for lunch 12-2pm! Sarah and James were very welcoming and provided us with top tips to make the most of their facilities and the local area. Champagne and cheese were in our thoughts and tummies each day 😀 The cottages are perfect for families as the pool and garden space gives space to play. Cyclists & water sports enthusiasts would also love this location. We had a wonderful week.

About the host

Hosted by Sarah Lacey

Host profile image
James a chartered builder and Sarah, who worked in IT as a Client Director, both British, had a dream of renovating a group of old barns to create a holiday haven and with La Ferme des Tourterelles in Eclance, they certainly found such a project. It has taken over 10 years to get to lovingly restore all the old buildings to life. They are now tackling their own home!

Why they chose this property

It was a great project based on lovely limestone buildings and wooden frames. Whilst almost a ruin, it gave a clean template to create modern interiors whilst maintain the character of the old buildings. It is set on the edge of a small village in the champagne region with glorious views from their land which was large enough to build a big swimming pool. It was also only 4 hours drive from Calais so it is in easy driving distance for guests to join them (as well as to get back to the UK to see family and friends).

What makes this property unique

Watch the sun set over the forests and fields from the terrace. Hear the cranes as they fly by twice a year in their V formation marking the seasons. Likewise, watch the swallows as they rest on our gutters and roofs in the early morning waiting for their breakfast and suddenly swooping down throughout our courtyard as if a conductor waved their baton for them to start. Get drawn into the huge skies at night trying to identify the constellations and catching sight of the shooting stars. Watch the bats come out to feed in the early evening as you start to prepare your BBQ's (no they will not be looking at your food!). Walk down the courtyard and be enveloped by the aromas of the roses, lavender and honeysuckle. We hope you love these experiences.
