Excellent!

We couldn't be happier with the house, the village, the entire experience. We all loved it and can't wait to return. The house is lovely, spacious and very comfortable. The village has a small shop for food items and the Hopetoun Arms Hotel has a great pub with great food and very friendly staff, all within steps from the house. And the landscape is lovely. I even loved the weather...a very nice change from the Texas heat. The day we played golf was a perfectly sunny, crisp day - the perfect day for golf. It all exceeded my expectations, and we hope to return very soon.

Amazing holiday home !

Ebenezer hall was fantastic for a family gathering. Very spacious house , loved the upstairs living room with open plan kitchen and dining . It meant we could all be together and the person cooking was included. Fantastic walks in the hills and right on the doorstep .

Comfortable and spacious property in a beautiful area

We enjoyed a lovely week in this well equipped, spacious and comfortable place. Super comfortable beds and great showers. Bed linens, kitchen equipment all good quality. Interesting and picturesque village with a great heritage trail around it, telling the story of some of the significant people who’ve lived there. It’s worth going to Teddywood, the bear museum just down the road where the lady there brings the local history alive with her teddy bear characters. Sounds strange I know, but it’s well worth it. Also the Leadhills railway is a lovely little trip. We walked over the hills to Wanlockhead with stunning views, had a drink in the highest pub in Scotland there, then walked back. Would definitely recommend Ebenezer Hall. Thanks Charlie!

aussergewöhnliches FeHaus (ehem.Kapelle)

Cosy yet spacious getaway spot!

The Hall was just a delight to stay in! We were an extended family group wanting to spend part of the Christmas holiday together, and the house could not have been a better place for such a relaxed gathering. The rooms are like hotel rooms, big and spacious and offer plenty of personal space, while the open plan lounge and kitchen area upstairs was just perfect for spending hours together. Those cooking or cleaning up were not separate from everyone else, and all could be part of whatever was going on at different times of the day. It was quite stormy outside at times and all local attractions were closed, but we were quite happy staying inside by the fire when the weather was bad, or just going for a walk through the village or into the hills when there were dry spells. Thank you Charlie for letting us stay in your lovely home! We can tell a lot of love and effort has gone into restoring this lovely building, and felt very blessed being able to use it for several days.

Amazing stay!

Ebenezer Hall is a fantastic property! Our family of 8 (6 adults and 2 small children) stayed here for 3 nights and it was perfect for us. Charlie was an amazing host. Check in and out were made very simple; instructions for facilities were easy to understand, and Charlie was very welcoming, checking everything was ok with the property after we checked in. The only downside was the lack of activities close by for small children, but it's a lovely and very interesting part of Scotland. Walking from Leadhills to Wanlockhead was a highlight, as well as Grey Mare's Trail about a 40 min drive. The kids loved the Dino Park and Dalscone Farm in Dumfries! Would highly recommend this property!

Hidden problems

You don’t have control if the central heating , you have to ring Charlie to ask him to put it on ( this just feels wrong ) he has it set to twice a day no matter what the holiday user wants!! The washing machine wakes the street up ( noisey) no tumble drier just an airer mattresses are memory foam but they don’t work so you sleep in a hole ( upstairs bedroom ) I had pick up previous dogs mess up before I could let my grandson walk around and the bins on arrival were overflowing and on my departure Charlie charged me an extra cost for not using the correct bins outside ( how could I when they were still full off the previous guests ) what a sting in my tail !! Spoilt my time away !!!

Perfect house, perfect location.

First impression was how spacious the house was and how clean. Luxurious indeed. Soft beds, plenty bathrooms. Loved that their was a doggy water bowl and dog cage if needed. Not a huge amount of outdoor space but with amazing walks near by it wasn’t a problem.

Our Stay

Staying at this property was everything our family wanted, quiet, comfy, homely, clean, and most of all spacious. We all had our own space when needed. We wanted a quiet few days getaway and that's what we got. Went to sandyhills beach on one of our days with the kids and was fab. Thanks Charles, well be back soon. Thanks. Conor

Winter wonderland

We had an amazing time. We saw our first snow of the winter, had the BEST Indian takeaway and lounged in comfort in this beautifully refurbished church. The log burning fire was a big plus for us. We honestly couldn’t rate it highly enough and Charlie the owner was brilliant.

Fantastisch!

Pretty Village, beautiful house

This is such a pretty village but if you’re unlucky with bad weather, as we were, there isn’t much to do but go to the pub. Thankfully the house has WiFi and table games. There is loads of space to spread yourselves out and is very comfortable

Cosy, comfortable place in a quiet surrounding

We had a fantastic week in the cosy, big and comfortable house. Everything we needed was there and very well explained. The check in and out were very easy. The house is in a quite remote but very beautiful area. It was also great that we could book the house for 8 days. Drumlanrig castle is nearby and a fantastic day out.

Great week away

Lovely property which is ideal for family and friends to catch up. Loved the large open plan living area. The place is tastefully decorated. The only downside was the outdoor space was small for a party of 8.

About the host

Hosted by Charlie Irvine

Host profile image
We are a family of four living in Glasgow. Ebenezer Hall is our holiday home, often used by family and friends.

Why they chose this property

Ebenezer Hall was a disused church in a conservation village, Leadhills, one hour's drive from Glasgow and 15 minutes from the M74. The village is a fascinating testament to a history of lead and gold mining and the curfew bell is still its centrepiece. We spent five years creating a beautiful space to provide a wonderful experience for visitors. Our inspirational architect used the full height of this 1905 chapel to create a stunning upper floor with open plan living space, arched windows and hill views.

What makes this property unique

Bright, spacious and warm, Ebenezer Hall is perfect for a winter getaway or summer walking holiday. With beautiful views of the Southern Uplands, this unique house has been respectfully restored to modern specification while preserving much of its original character, from coloured window arches to staircase constructed from pew timber. Mod cons include Nespresso cappuccino maker, Neff induction hob, 4K TV, SkyQ, wireless broadband, Bose Soundlink Air sound system, rain showers and memory-foam king-size beds. The private patio and balcony catch the sun each afternoon through spring and summer.
Despite its rural setting, Ebenezer Hall is 200 meters from the Hopeton Arms hotel and a village shop open 7 days per week.
