About this property

Cosy rural hideaway

Sitting at the end of a traditional Welsh longhouse, “y beudy” (the cow byre) is a country lover's happy place. The sitting room/kitchen is full of character and charm while the cosy bedroom upstairs nestles under the roof with exposed beams. It is accessed through the garden room where you can relax by the welcoming warmth of the log burning stove as you gaze at the stars in our dark sky. The toilet and shower room is conveniently situated on the ground floor through from the living room.
A welcome basket will always contain coffee, tea, sugar & milk, plus seasonal items if available such as homemade jam, our own apple juice, eggs from our girls or homemade bread. We also provide the store cupboard basics eg. salt & pepper, cooking oil, red & brown sauces, washing up liquid.
Although not with exclusive use, guests are welcome to sit in the garden. We are a smallholding so expect to see hens pecking about, Lucy the horse looking over the wall, the dogs of course, or pigs and sheep in the fields next door.
Our bottom gate leads out onto rugged hillside, where you can walk for miles.
We sit above the beautiful river Wye, and canoeing is available from the world famous Hay-on-Wye (11 miles away) and Glasbury (10 miles). Horse riding can also be booked (8 miles away).
The Brecon Beacons, Black Mountains, Elan Valley and Cambrian Mountains are all within easy reach, or perhaps enjoy a visit to nearby Builth Wells or Brecon for lunch or a browse around the shops.
Note: please read all information regarding pets.

A beautiful 5 days!

We absolutely loved our stay in this wonderful cottage in the beautiful countryside. We felt at home with everything we could possibly need to hand and a great location to explore surroundings on foot or within a short drive of many great spots. Our hosts were very friendly and helpful. We were very sad to leave but will remember this lovely spot for a long time.

A very cozy retreat

Me and my partner had a lovely time here. We were left some goodies on arrival which were much appreciated. Very cozy living space and a lovely garden room. Bed very comfy. Would absolutely stay here again in the future.

short stay at Y Beudy

We had a lovely time staying at Jackie's place. She was an excellent host and was very helpful with our questions and needs, and very welcoming. There were some lovely eggs and jam on our arrival and a blazing fire! The space is really comfortable, we slept extremely well in the bed and relished the hot shower. The cottage layout is great; plenty of room to enjoy the views, to rest after a walk, to cook a proper meal and make plans for the next day. It's also in a brilliant location and only minutes from quite a few different places to visit. Builth is an interesting little town with independent shops and cafés, and the landscape of that area is breathtaking. We did one walk straight from the cottage into the hills, and would love to come back and do more!

The perfect place to get away from it all

The cottage is ontop of the hillside in a stunning Welsh valley. The photos do not do it justice as when you pull up to it you just think WOW what a stunning place. When you walk in you are hit with the warmth and coziness of the log burner and the wooden beams crossing the ceiling. The cottage is huge and very spacious. The kitchen is tucked in the corner but has everything you need and a great oven for cooking. The bathroom is very modern and the shower was powerful and big. Upstairs is the bedroom and is absolutely stunning and very cozy. The bed is very comfortable and we had no issues sleeping. There is plenty of storage for clothes. The snug room with the log burner in is a little haven and you could quite easily sit there all night looking out the windows at the stars as its very dark and clear at night with no light pollution. Jackie was the perfect host and was on hand if we needed anything. There are lots of farm animals which added to the experience and there are endless walks right from the front door. 3 nights was no where near enough and we cannot recommend this stunning cottage highly enough. If you want peace and quiet, stunning scenery, walks a plenty and the most comfortable accommodation you could possibly find, do not look any further as you have found it.

Lovely cottage in peaceful surroundings

Beautifully converted former cow byre with every facility for a comfortable stay in an attractive, peaceful hill location far from the bustle of city life. Jackie and Paul were charming hosts who provided us with a much appreciated welcome tray which included tasty eggs from their hens and delicious home-made gooseberry jam. The bed was extremely comfortable and the large shower room was very well appointed. A bonus was the daily greeting from Snoopy and Bella, the dogs.

We had a lovely time

This place is in the middle of nowhere but we love it that way. We spoke to the owner on several occasions, she told us where we can take the dog for a walk, pointed us the right direction. The properly was clean and cosy and there were tea cakes and local eggs left for us in the kitchen, also milk in the fridge on arrival. Fabulous property, highly recommend it.

Wonderful 3 days

We had a lovely stay at Jackie and Paul's cottage. They were very welcoming and warm. We had complimentary free range eggs and biscuits, milk, tea and coffee available. The kitchen was fully equipped, we made full use of it. The bed was comfortable and my daughter loved the attic room. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Reading in lovely cottage and walking in beautiful countryside, what else do you need!

We had a lovely bank holiday weekend at the cottage. The walk out over the hills behind the cottage were a highlight. The garden room is so light and comfortable, sat reading a book, listening to the birds. Great for a quiet, away from it all weekend. Jackie was really helpful and welcoming.

Short birthday break.

Lovely rustic cottage in a stunning location. Warm welcome from the friendly owners who kept us well stocked in logs and even had the wood burner lit for our arrival. The cottage is very cosy, super comfy bed, however the sofa in the lounge needed extra cusions as it isa little hard. We managed to improve it by using the cusions from the conservatory sofa. All in all a very pleasant few days and would recommend.

Wonderful stay

This lovely cottage was in peaceful surroundings. Very comfortable and cosy with chickens and three friendly dogs having the freedom that they should. Off from the A470 the sheep roamed wherever they wished, sometimes had to get out and cajole them along as they were perfectly happy! If you want peace and quiet in a spotlessly clean comfortable cottage. This is it. Thank you Jackie for the lovely fresh eggs, which were delicious and also for a perfect stay.

Hello, we are Jackie & Paul. We love where we live, and want to share this beautiful location with others. We enjoy simple, rural living and do our best to live as sustainably as we can. We grow our own veg, raise our own meat (for Paul, I'm a veggie!) and try to do our bit for the planet. But we're no eco-warriors!

Why they chose this property

This is a place to relax and unwind, and to enjoy a little peace in a busy world. It's great to be able to go through our bottom gate straight onto the rugged hill, where you can walk for miles.

What makes this property unique

We chose this house because of its history and character. We love its nooks and crannies, its thick walls and open fireplaces. It’s over 400 years old and every inch tells a story.
