About this property

Finest Retreats | Court Cottage

Court Cottage is a recently renovated characterful cottage set in the heart of the Devonshire village of West Buckland. Pets are very welcome at the property and the cottage is well suited for dogs with its enclosed garden which looks out towards the village's church spire in one direction and the rolling countryside in the other.

Walking into the spacious hallway through the front door, the kitchen/diner leads off in one direction and the cosy living room in the other. The kitchen has all the appliances and amenities required to cook up a feast on your self-catering holiday including a Nespresso coffee machine, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and large fridge/freezer.

Guests will love the spacious living room with its garden views, wide window seats and imposing inglenook fireplace. It has a working log burner which guests can enjoy the warmth from during the autumn and winter nights. Pets are well catered for too, with various dog baskets provided. The main TV has an Amazon Firestick for guests to use and there is also a DAB digital radio.

The three bedrooms and house bathroom can be found upstairs. All of them enjoy garden and countryside views and have been tastefully decorated and come with luxury white linens. The master bedroom enjoys a king-sized bed and has plenty of storage along with the benefit of a TV which guests can enjoy during lazy morning lie-ins.

The second bedroom can be arranged either as two singles or as a super-king sized double while the third bedroom is a small 4' double.

The house bathroom has a separate bath and power shower which makes it ideal for young families.

Court Cottage is perfectly situated for guests to enjoy both Devon's coast and its countryside. West Buckland is a pretty rural village with its own shop and part-time Post Office and is surrounded by rolling countryside. Exmoor National Park is only a stone's-throw to the North East while Devon's famous beaches are a short hop in the other direction. Saunton Sands is a dog-friendly sandy beach that welcomes pets 365 days of the year. Woolacombe beach, which is further round the coast, is also a wonderful stretch of coastline and ideal for walking on all year round and for sun-bathing in the summer.

There is free, on-street parking for 2 cars next to the entrance to the cottage. All bed linens are provided but guests are asked to bring their own towels.

The property is very pet-friendly with an unlimited number of dogs allowed but guests are respectfully asked not to allow them upstairs or to be left unattended at any time during the stay. There are 2 very large, 1 large and 1 medium dog crates provided. Please note we can only accept XL Bully dogs to stay if they have an Certificate of Exemption.

Our holiday

We had a wonderful holiday, with 5 dogs and 5 people the garden was a good size and the dogs loved exploring it. The cottage was beautiful, only down size was walking passed another house to get to the cottage and they have dogs as well. Had to make sure the way was clear beforehand to leave. But we had a wonderful time.

North Devon Holiday

Had a lovely time, cottage was great, really well set up for us and the dogs, excellent location to get to beaches and tourist attractions, some great pubs near by, would thoroughly recommend.

Very homely with comfortable sofas and the bed was so nice

Very homely with comfortable sofas and the bed was so nice. The enclosed garden was brilliant and very safe for our two dogs. The welcome gifts were very nice. Did not like having to walk through the next door garden to reach the property, but it was a small inconvenience and did not spoil the holiday.

Beautiful cottage

Well equipped cottage in nice small village. Suited us well but may be a little too far from anywhere for some. Shared drive had its challenges occasionally meeting loose dogs but they were very friendly so no problem. The garden was great and safe for my dog. Beds were comfortable, bedding and towels really clean. Scones on arrival were very welcome. Would we stay there again? Definitely. Would be nice if we had known just what equipment was included like a hairdryer so we didn't carry extra stuff. Agent obviously didn't pass on requirements after asking us if we had any.

Great comfy holiday cottage

Great accommodation, everything you could wish for a lovely stay. Found the booking in system on line frustrating and overly unnecessary

Excellent cottage, lovely enosed garden

Nothing to dislike, very comfortable, spotlessly clean. Very well thought out for dogs as well.Lots of extras,v well equipped. Excellent customer care. Easy to find and instructions on where to park very clear. One to return to for sure. A wonderful cream tea, bread, milk left for us as well. In the property that you have to walk in front of to access the gate to court cottage, we didn't know there was a dog, and although our dog is friendly, it took us by surprise when going out one morning Just a mention in the info would maybe help others. It is not a negative comment, just a suggestion.

Almost Perfect

We absolutely loved the garden, it was totally secure for our 2 small dogs and also beautiful for us to sit in The village was very quiet, so nothing for our nervous dog to bark at. The other side of this is that there are no facilities in the village. However, Barnstaple had everything we needed and more. The beautiful coast is only 25mins drive away and well worth the visit to Saunton Sands and Lynmouth and Lynton. The cottage was roomy and had so many items that made it a home and not a bare holiday cottage. We like to cook at home and we found every utensil possible we could need. There is no driveway for this cottage, but we found this no problem as we parked right outside the gate all week. Afternoon tea had been left for our arrival and this was a lovely touch. I would be giving a 5* review if it wasn't for the Uncomfortable beds Damp issue Lack of fans We both found the beds uncomfortable and the pillows flat and came home with backache. A couple of good mattress toppers would solve this and decent pillows. It was a humid week and we were both very hot at night, some fans would be good. The other thing is the damp in the kitchen, this is very bad under the radiator and by the back door (especially when raining), it smelt of damp in the kitchen too.

Perfect base for North Devon

This property had all we needed for our week away. It’s small and cosy but had everything we needed. The beds were so comfortable we have now ordered the same mattress for our bed! The house smells a bit of dog, which I guess can’t be helped if dogs are allowed and we knew that when we booked. All in all a great stay.
