Host & Stay | Thimble Cottage
Summary:
Centrally placed and just a stone’s throw from Whitby’s vibrant harbour, Thimble Cottage is a beautiful holiday home with charm in abundance. The perfect retreat for couples and families, you can expect a wonderful stay here. Don’t just take our word for it - Thimble Cottage was recently honoured in the prestigious 2024 European Awards programme as a Travel & Hospitality Winner! Highlighting Thimble Cottage’s commitment to excellence and exceptional service, you'll have a retreat to remember.
The Space:
Pre-dating the 17th century, this mid-terrace holiday home is grade II listed and likely to have been a former doctor’s residence. Quirky and characterful, the property is set over three floors and sleeps up to four guests.
Upon entering Thimble Cottage, you’ll be welcomed into the open plan living, dining and kitchen area. Featuring low beamed ceilings, a large Georgian window and a rustic brick statement fireplace, this cosy space has a traditional cottage feel. The kitchen is fully equipped so you can make the most of your self-catering stay. Unwind with your loved ones on the grey sofas or enjoy meals together in the dining area.
A winding staircase takes you up to the first floor where you’ll find the master bedroom and family bathroom. The double bedroom has an exposed sandstone feature wall with two double sash windows letting in plenty of light and fresh sea air. Pops of ochre are added in the soft furnishings to create a cohesive look and a truly relaxing feel.
The family bathroom features tasteful white metro tiles and exposed beams. The space is complete with a WC, basin and a modern shower enclosure including an invigorating power shower.
Take the winding staircase up to the second floor and you’ll discover the expansive twin bedroom. Nautically themed, there are hues of blue with the quirky shaped chimney breast strikingly painted in Cook’s Blue. Take a seat at the elevated front window, the perfect vantage point to observe the mast tips of the Endeavour sailing vessel moored in the harbour.
Guest Access:
Guests have access to the full cottage.
The keys to Thimble Cottage are accessed via a secure key safe and full details will be provided shortly before your arrival date.
We provide a parking scratch card for your stay which gives you free parking in the W zones.
The Neighborhood:
Thimble Cottage is located in the centre of Whitby and you’ll find restaurants, shops and pubs less than a 2-minute walk away. The cottage is located along a small ginnel, which was previously known as Smugglers Yard on the West side of Whitby.
Revel in nostalgic charm by heading to Pier Road where you’ll find fun arcades and plenty of fish restaurants. Continue on to the Blue Flag West Cliff beach and promenade.
The other side of Whitby is full of narrow, medieval streets dotted with boutiques and pubs. Climb the famous 199 steps up to the Church of Saint Mary. You can also discover the renowned ruined Whitby Abbey, which was the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s gothic novel ‘Dracula’.
Step outside of Whitby and you’ll uncover a haven of woodland and moorland. Whitby forms part of the North York Moors National Park so it’s the perfect place for long walks.
