Lalas Rafting trip

The facility was very nice. Very adequate kitchens, sleeping arrangements, areas to just hang out. Close to rafting and water playground. Hiking and walking also close. Our family truly enjoyed our vacation.

Enjoyable stay

We really liked the property but it was confusing on the exact location. I thought we would be closer to Fayetteville. Otherwise it was a great place to stay.

Perfect place for our family reunion

We stayed in Highlander I and II for a family reunion; this was the perfect place for this multi-generational event. We loved having extra kitchens, living spaces and bathrooms. Cabins were clean and well stocked. So much to do in the area and the fire pits got used nightly for campfires and smores. Good communication from owner and easy check in/check out process.

Highlander II lodge

This was a great property for an awesome getaway weekend, perfect for a guys weekend trip to the New River Gorge area! It's about a 50 minute drive, 40 minutes if you take the toll road, to all the activities in Fayetteville but worth it considering the more then reasonable pricing for the lodge. The lodge itself was clean and well equipped for the weekend. My group only needed one kitchen as we only cooked one meal and used the grill but the two coffee pots were great for the morning! This lodge is a great place to stay for family or friends getaway.

Good place for a big company

We loved the place and how much space it had. Also there was enough parking. It's close to the activities we planned. So everything was very satisfying, besides the directions. There was one address in the papers you're sent via email, another on VRBO, and still one more in the Directions section on VRBO. It was so misleading. But the moment we realized we should follow the Directions, everything worked fine. Also they have a wifi sticker on the fridge, it's incorrect. Look for the wifi name and password in the guest book. What we loved most of all, that each floor had its own bathroom, 2 floors had their own kitchen and laundry space. All in all, we can recommend this place for a stay, and looking forward to our next time there!

Rafting Trip in August

We were very upset that the AC wasn't working. We called the property manager and they stated the owner knew the AC was broke and they thought it has been fixed. News flash.. it wasn't fixed and it's the middle of August! 17 people in the house and we couldn't even open windows bc there weren't any screens. Very disappointing to say the least. And on a side note the grass hadn't been mowed.. and was above our ankles, which was also annoying. We made the best of it.. but I also feel like we were mislead on the website which said it was a 25 min drive to the rafting companies when in reality it was a 45 min drive.

Great location for large group

We were a group of friends that stayed at the Highlander 2 for the weekend and really enjoyed our stay. The house had everything we needed, including the outdoor grill and deck area. Each bedroom was set up nicely and no problems with any other amenities. The only minor comment I’d make is to suggest having some basic condiments (salt, pepper, sugar etc.) in the kitchen but other than that we had everything we needed to enjoy the weekend. Thanks a lot.

Accomodates a crowd

This property suited our needs in the summertime when we wanted to spend a few days hiking but couldn't find anything closer to our preferred location (waited to late to search probably!). It hasn't been updated in quite sometime but was clean and had plenty of towels for a crowd. Skiers would find it nice to have the ski lift right outside the door.

“Campout” 2020

We are 6 nursing school buds, and met in ‘83. We began with annual weekend trips to one another’s homes. When we began accumulating husbands, kids and, now, grandkids, we went to an extended weekend. Now that we’re in our fifties and sixties, we’re over the tenting and our annual campout has evolved into a week in a rental. This past week has been amazing, with activities to fit any age. The rental had plenty of beds, table space, 2 kitchens and 2 full baths. It was clean and very comfortable, and the property managers were very friendly, easy to contact and prompt to respond! We will absolutely recommend it to anyone interested in spending time in the area.

Very well kept, easy to find and close to rafting

This is a great property if you're in town for white water rafting. We had ten guys and there was plenty of space. Rooms were clean, internet was fast, and gas station wasn't too far away for supplies.

Very nice house that was very clean when we arrived.

We had a wonderful family gathering at the house. Our only issue was with the refrigerators in that they were warm when we arrived and took almost 24 hours to cool down. Other then that the only thing we would have liked was if the “sky ride” would have been running. My littlest grandkids just didn't comprehend this was a snow ski resort. It did give us a good laugh though. Thank you again. Roger

Perfect layout

These two houses were perfect for a combined Bach party. We had a girls house and a guys house so we could do our own things but they were close enough to hang out together as a big group when we wanted. Very spacious and clean with plenty of beds. Only con was the temperature variation between the bottom and top floors. (Freezing on 1st/hot on 2nd and 3rd) Overall though, Absolutely loved our experience!

Perfect place for a large group or multiple families!

We loved the size and comfort of this property. We had the entire cabin, which was perfect for 2 multi-generation families to stay. Everyone was comfortable and had space to relax and get away as needed. With 2 kitchens and dining areas, we traded off who was responsible for the different meals and enjoyed them on together on one of the levels. The location is easy (2 minutes) off 77, but still felt private and tucked away. We stayed in summer and saw lots of deer each day, but I'm assuming it's not as quiet during ski season when the resort is open. Only thing I would like to possibly see different would be just a little more updating of the decor and fixtures, but otherwise the place was perfect for our needs. We would definitely stay here again.

About the host

Hosted by Debra Pories

Host profile image
Owned by two couples who came to the New River Gorge region to raft and climb and stayed to raise our families. We love to travel and we love to come home to West Virginia. We hope that it feels like home to you, as well.

Why they chose this property

A bustling ski resort in the winter, the other 3 seasons at Winterplace are peaceful and secluded. The cabin has easy access to the highway and is a simple drive to as much outdoor recreation as you can handle.
Enjoy this home away from home with all of your friends and family and make memories that will last a lifetime.

What makes this property unique

Plenty of space for everyone to comfortably cook and grill, eat together, play games, hang out outside, or retreat to quiet space. This is a rare house that can accommodate the needs of EVERYONE in your group.
Enjoy ;)
