About this property

Poppy Cottage - sleeps 4 guests in 2 bedrooms

Poppy Cottage sits on a quiet, residential road, with equally pretty and ancient dwellings to either side and across the road, with open countryside on the doorstep. Guests step from the road directly into the living room-dining area where there are hooks for coats and room to leave shoes and boots.

On the ground floor of this immaculate and stylish cottage is a living-dining room, featuring an original fireplace with a wood burning stove, polished limestone floor tiles and comfy seating for four guests. Three steps lead through to a bright and light, fully equipped kitchen, with a back door out to the courtyard patio. On the first floor is the family bathroom and a double bedroom with a king-size bed, and on the second floor is the more spacious master bedroom with a king-size bed and original, exposed A-frame beams.

At the rear of the cottage there is a sunny courtyard with a beautiful acer tree and a dining table with four chairs.
Ground Floor

Living Room-Dining Area:
As you step in through the front door, you'll find hooks for coats and room to leave shoes and boots. Directly ahead is a delightful living room featuring an original fireplace with a wood-burning stove and a window seat just wide enough to perch on. The room is furnished with a 2-seater sofa, armchair, and button-back, velvet day chair with occasional tables to rest a book or drink on. There is a 33" smart TV to one side of the fireplace and a dining table and four chairs to the other side. Set to one side is an alcove with an antique drinks cabinet, with glasses at the ready for guests to pour their favourite tipple.

Kitchen:
From the dining area head up three stone steps and through a latched door into the kitchen - mind your head on the original beam as you step through. This lovely, light room is equipped with an electric oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher, Nespresso coffee machine, washer/dryer, fridge with freezer compartment and a butler's sink overlooking the courtyard patio. A door opens from the kitchen out to the courtyard making it super convenient for al fresco dining.

A latched door in the living room opens to carpeted stairs with a handrail that lead up to the first floor where you'll find Bedroom One and the family bathroom. Note that the stairs are steep and unsuitable for guests with restricted mobility.
First Floor

Bedroom One:
This chic bedroom, with minimalist styling, sits at the front of the house, overlooking Chapel Street and the neighbouring ancient rooftops. It features a king-size bed with bedside lights set against a deep charcoal grey wall, a full-length, antique mirror and a double, built-in wardrobe.

Family Bathroom:
The small but stylish bathroom has Fired Earth tiles and Burlington bathroom ware, including a three-quarter-size bath with a shower over the bath, a WC, and a washbasin with a towel rail and a mirror above.
Second Floor

Head through a latched door from the landing and up a carpeted staircase with a handrail to the second floor/converted attic and Bedroom Two.

Bedroom Two:
The striking master bedroom features the attic's original beams, which are painted white, giving this room a beautifully light and spacious feel - made even lighter when the sunshine streams through the Velux windows on either side of the room (all with blinds). The bedroom is furnished with a king-size bed on a wooden, sleigh bed frame, with bedside tables and reading lamps, a chest of drawers (not shown) with a mirror and a hanging rail with hangers.Outside

The cottage has a secluded and pretty courtyard garden with a tall acer tree in one corner. The courtyard is at the rear of the property and accessed through the Kitchen. A table and four chairs with cushions are provided for guests, making it a lovely spot for breakfast, lunch or supper. There is a handy, retractable washing line for guests' use and a shed where the BBQ is stored, and muddy boots can be kept.

Cute cottage

lovely little cottage, as expected. Beds very comfortable, bathroom a little small but expected for a small country cottage. Could do with a little attention to soft furnishings to give it the real wow factor.

Wedding weekend

We were staying in the cottage as we were part of the wedding party for a wedding in the village chuch and reception nearby. The cottage was perfectly located for that and the Fox Inn and Debbie was hugely accommodating over the check out time which was much appreciated. Would recommend for a small group.

8/10 Good

Nearly excellent.

A very well situated cottage, nicely furnished, in generally good decorative order, with very comfortable beds and bedding. Generous hot water, easy to use shower, reliable wi fi, and convenient dishwasher. Street parking immediately outside (subject to space being available). A few things stated to be in the cottage weren’t, we couldn’t get the washing machine to work, and the garden table had rotten bits. A few other maintenance issues. The very steep and narrow staircases and low upstairs beams would make this unsuitable for anyone with mobility problems. Otherwise, just a bit of attention would make this an excellent stay.

Excellent stay

Poppy cottage is incredibly well situated, handy for Stow and a stone’s throw from The Fox, a lovely pub with a fire and great food. The cottage is well-sized and has everything you could want, including a little courtyard that catches the sun.

A relaxing break in a beautiful village

Very well appointed cottage with super comfortable beds and luxury bedlinen. The Fox pub in the village is so close by and has really interesting dishes as well as the pub standards. We had a couple of issues in resolving our requests promptly with Bolthole Retreats and some items were unavailable for the welcome pack, however the housekeeper did rectify this. Bedside tables in bedroom 2 would have been useful, and also a few more items for kitchen including salad bowl and more choice of utensils.

A week in the Cotswolds

Lovely stay in a great house with a great location. Very comfortable beds and kitchen is excellent. A little bit more cutlery would be great. The open fire was very cosy.

Super cottage, in lovely location

We stayed here for 5 nights as a family of four with youngish children. It’s a great little cottage, warm and cosy, with all of the equipment you would expect. The only thing that might be a consideration for any taller folk are the ceiling and door heights as it’s generally quite low (as a cottage should be!) but anyone over 6 foot will be stooping a fair bit. Broadwell is a really idyllic village and the pub (Fox Inn) is phenomenal. Nice walk (or short drive into Stow for shops etc).

Cozy and well located base in the Cotswolds

We are a family of four who stayed two nights at Poppy’s Cottage. The cottage is well located to explore the Cotswolds, and is in a very small, locals town called Broadwell, 5 min drive to Stow-on-the-Wold, 7 min drive to Burton-on-the-Water. We loved having cozy fires every night, extremely comfortable beds, and amenities like coffee pods and milk in the fridge. The heat took awhile to warm the place up, and the internet was not consistent, but neither worried us too much. We’d recommend staying here and would love to be back!

Peace and Tranquility

Poppy cottage is a small, well appointed terraced cottage in the beautiful hamlet of Broadwell. Although it lacks garden space it does have a tiny sunny rear courtyard. The cottage has many original features & quality fittings with two steep staircases up to the bedrooms, tricky for anyone with mobility issues. The bedroom on the top floor has original beams with very restricted head height in places. A real bonus staying at the cottage is The Fox pub being within 5 minutes walk, overlooking the village green & providing a warm welcome and fabulous fresh food. The peace and quiet of this lovely place is so very special.

Quaint Cottage

What a delight little cottage in the true Cotswolds village unspoilt by the masses who clog the like of Stow that is a short drive or lovely walk away. The cottage is lovely, a challenge at time if over 6ft!! Very well equipped and comfortable with a small sunny courtyard when the weather is right. The cottage is small but does everything you need it do with a classic country charm. The village has lovely walks around it and from Weds - Sun there is no need to leave the village as the The Fox serves fab food and local ales from Donnington Brewery. Visit their brewery, it’s in a beautiful setting and of course great ales. May book for a winter get away to make the most of the log burner!

Tiny but lovely cottage

Nice cottage for a short stay. We needed a longer stay so stayed intermittently instead. No real problem with cottage. Stairs steep and low beam going into top bedroom. Bathroom small but Bolthole Retreats were unhelpful following our mistake as to the size of the property. Being new to rentals we relied on photos and not floor plan. Found a spacious and well appointed AirBNB instead. In retrospect cottage was overpriced.

Very confortable cottage at the heart of the Cotswolds!

Hi We really enjoyed our stay in the Poppy cottage. The house was very clean but I noticed all the garbages of previous rentals in the outdoor storage place. This necessitate to be cleaned. Kind regards, Emilie Beck

Poppy cottage

Lovely cottage with quality fixtures and fittings. Good sized bedrooms with comfy beds. The only minor thing is the stairs could be problem for some people as they are quite steep. The few days we spent here we really enjoyed it.
