Beautiful wooded retreat

This property was very nice and had everything we needed, even backgammon boards! Lots of books and games and a ping pong table downstairs. The kitchen had everything! Towels were great and so was water pressure. The beds were very comfortable.

Wonderful, Quiet Haven and Eminently Convenient

This roomy house is the best of both worlds: in a locale so quiet and woodsy, yet so close to great activities, restaurants, stores, and more. This was our third time staying at the house and we had just as much fun as our first two visits. The ping-pong table and foosball table provided a lot of fun, especially since the weather kept us indoors a bit.We enjoyed the local restaurants, especially The Roost, Hash, Ollie's, and Spy. And when we ate at the house, the kitchen was well stocked with with all the appliances and tools necessary to make a great meal--with a lovely dining room in which to enjoy it. One other big plus: The television was extremely easy to use and offered a wide variety of streaming services.

Great weekend visit

We loved the house and the location! We stayed for 3 nights visiting our daughter at SUNY New Paltz. The house is clean and spacious, with beautiful yard in a quiet area. One word of advice if you bring a dog - there are multiple deer who come right to the yard early mornings and at night, so my advice to leash your dog to be safe! The house is only 15 min away from the beautiful Minnewaska Preserve, Mohonk trailhead and other hiking trails! We had a great time hiking and would love to book this property again!

Quick getaway

This is a great house. It was clean and very spacious. Traveled with my 2 sons and small dog. Everyone had plenty of space. The kitchen was very well stocked. Beds were very comfortable. House is tucked away in nature and we loved it. Will definitely be back hopefully in the fall as I imagine the views from the home will be spectacular.

Great weekend getaway!

We just spent a rainy weekend here, but despite the weather had a great time at this house. Layout is great, nicely stocked with paper towels, TP, shampoo, soap, etc. We enjoyed sitting by the fireplace both nights. Location is perfect for hiking at Minnewaska and an easy drive to New Paltz or other towns for dinner or other supplies. We all wished we could have stayed longer and hope to return when the weather is nicer!

Great stay!

We stayed for a weekend to visit with family and had a great time. The house feels like you're staying in a treehouse with beautiful views of the property through all the windows. The fireplace in the spacious living area was cozy on a rainy day and the kitchen was stocked with tools to make some tasty meals. The beds were also super comfortable and it was peaceful outside at night. Caroline sent a ton of recommendations for things to do in the area which was really thoughtful. Highly recommend for a weekend getaway.

Beautiful property with tons of space

The house had nice appointments, we enjoyed a fire in the fireplace and we got to watch a doe and her fawns approach close to the house several times. Comfortable, clean, and the communication from the owner we detailed and helpful. I would highly recommend!

A lovely house for a short get away

The house was quite nice, just as advertised. The dog enjoyed watching deer through the many windows. The local grocery store/wine store/pet store had everything we needed. Great area for taking walks. Very thorough info from owners!

Wonderful home!

We were in the area for a family wedding. The house is lovely and the setting verylovely/ woodsy/ unfortunately for us they were having issues with water pressure which we needed for everyone to get ready for the wedding. The owner got back to us very quickly and it seemed to be some issue with the well/pump- she is aware of the issue.

Overall fine, but some water issues

Our stay was fine overall, but we did have intermittent issues with the water in the house with very low pressure or a trickle and then it would improve. Made getting ready for the wedding challenging.

Another great stay

We’re repeat bookers. Big fans of the location, the property, the house, and the toys for the kids. Caroline was especially great as we had to deal with a furnace hiccup but she was able to get it serviced quickly and very responsive in dealing with something that could have happened to anyone. Will be back.

About the host

Hosted by Caroline Bollinger

Host profile image
I'm a former magazine editor and my husband is a professor of mathematics at New York City College of Technology. We live in Fort Greene, Brooklyn with our boys, 9 & 12. We appreciate our urban life all the more because we can get away. When in High Falls, we turn the kids roam and collect bugs; build labyrinths in the woods and roam the Preserve on their bikes. We hope (and believe!) you'll love our getaway as much as we do.

Why they chose this property

We became attached to the area in 1999, when we started traveling up together for a day of rock climbing. Two years later we were scouring local real estate ads. We looked for 22 months and were about to throw in the towel when we stumbled on the contemporary low-maintenance home we'd been seeking. It felt secluded, yet close to the preserve and friends in High Falls, New Paltz and Rosendale. So in spring of 2006 we purchased our place ONE CLOVEWOOD.

What makes this property unique

We like the comfort, openness and easiness of this house. It's hidden enough to feel like a weekend retreat. Yet it provides central access to all that we love in the area.

We come up with the kids to hike, bike, swim, fish, cook and relax and bbq with friends. The area offers so much of natures best that it's often hard to believe it's just 2 hours from NYC. Our giant tulip trees are home to orioles, finches and woodpeckers and owls. Our land also offers habitat to deer, woodchucks, frogs, a red fox--and one time even a black bear, to say nothing of our neighbors' free-ranging chickens! The house sits on several acres (as do others in the area), and the quiet is a nice antidote to the bustle of city life. Biking from the cliffs in the preserve back to our house, is a family favorite, there are carriage trails and gravel roads for all but about 1/4 mile. The hike to Bonticou is another must do.

We pick apples and pumpkins in the fall and let the kids get lost in the corn mazes and hay mazes at markets like the Wallkill, Jenkins and Calder Family Farm. Golfers will find a 9-hole course at Mohonk and 18 holes down the street at the Stone Dock Golf Course. Tennis players can play on a spectacular clay court with a view at Mohonk. There's also ample antiquing and even a vineyard.

We love to ski at Plattekill in winter. It's 15 minutes further than Hunter or Belleayre but we cherish the down home, old-school vibe. (It's hassle free and there's a great bar to boot!). My boys also love to ice skate up at Mohonk.

We take out-of-town guests to the DIA in Beacon, the FDR house and Vanderbilt mansions. We've also done cruises down the Hudson and trips to Red Hook and Hudson for antiques and enjoy the Hudson Valley culinary scene.
