About this property

Ardnoe House, Crinan, Argyll PA31 8SW

A large oak frame house, the spacious public rooms of kitchen, dining room, sun room and lounge are substantially open plan, allowing a relaxing informal space, for example for 2 families wanting to enjoy spending time together. Set in 3/4 acre of ground and located at the end of a no-through road it provides a high degree of seclusion and privacy.

Most of the public rooms enjoy the outstanding panoramic views from the exceptional location at the high point of Crinan Village. The property looks out to the West looking over Jura, Scarba, Mull and the Gulf of Corryvrecken, and to the North across Loch Crinan to Duntrune Castle. There is also much foreground interest with Crinan Harbour Island and the many yachts which frequent Loch Crinan. The lounge, dining room and sun room are ideal for watching the sunsets.

The property has flexible accommodation across 5 bedrooms consists of 4 king-size/double beds, 2 single beds, and 2 extra single mattresses or sofa-beds. The property has been furnished to a very high standard, with quality furniture, fabrics and bed-linen.

The sunroom adjacent to the kitchen provides direct access to an elevated patio area, with sturdy table and seating for 8. Elsewhere there are a number of areas of pretty garden grounds with lawn and several rockeries. Children are catered for with a new in-ground trampoline and swing-ball also available.

The property provides the ideal base for outdoor activities exploring this beautiful area of the West Coast of Scotland. A path leads from the edge of the garden down some steps to the waterfront at Crinan Harbour, where there is a small beach. A much more extensive, beautiful sandy beach is to be found at Crinan Ferry, a 5 mile drive.

Two exceptionally scenic walks are available starting from the property itself, the "Castle Dounie Walk" and "Crinan Wood Walk" (see also photos). The Crinan Canal starts a 5 minute walk from the property and runs the 9 miles to Ardrishaig. It provides an ideal traffic free and easy walk or cycle, including for children. (We can provide indoor storage for your bicycles.) Mountainbiking along forest tracks is also possible the more energetic.

There is much local history to explore, eg around Kilmartin (15 minutes drive) and Dunad Fort. Attractive National Trust Gardens Crarae and Arduaine, both around 30 minutes drive from Crinan.

A number of boat trips are on offer for exploring the local islands, Corryvreckan whirlpool and wildlife spotting. The nearest is Venture West, from Crinan. From our windows you can watch him go out.

Several of the islands are within reach for day trips, the most accessible being Mull (1hr drive to Oban, 45 min ferry) and Gigha (1hr drive to Tayinloan, 20 min ferry). Mull, is a large island, with some spectacular scenery and famously scenic beaches e.g. Calgary Bay. Gigha, much smaller, is the perfect place to explore with bikes with quiet roads. There are some lovely beaches, an easy 20 minute walk up the top of a hill for a viewpoint/picnic, the excellent boathouse cafe, and pretty Achamore Gardens. Whisky lovers may want to venture a little further to Islay (2 hr ferry) with its many famous distilleries.

Exceptional House, stunning view
It’s hard to describe just how exceptional Ardnoe house is. It´s truly beautiful, very spacious, excellently equipped, and has many helpful extras, especially when traveling with children. We have never felt as comfortable and at home in a vacation rental as we did here. And of course, not to forget, the stunning view. The view is simply breathtaking every time, whether it's sunny or raining. The hosts are truly very helpful and have great suggestions for activities. We can wholeheartedly recommend this accommodation and will definitely return.

An amazing house with equally amazing views
We had a wonderful family holiday at this property, four generations of us in all, ages ranging from just over 1 to just under 98. Carol could not have been a more helpful host, she went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed. If you are looking for an exceptional holiday experience I can thoroughly recommend this house.

We had a wonderful trip. The house is in an absolutely stunning location with great views across to islands of Jura and Scarba (Mull on a clear day!). The house is spacious and very well equipped. Hotel restaurant and bar 10 minutes walk, plenty of history in Kilmartin Glen , heritage and nature within 30 mins drive. A fantastic stay and we’ll definitely be back!

Ardnoe House Half Term Holiday
Ardnoe House is a spacious, warm cosy house in a wonderful location overlooking the sea. The views from the windows over the little harbour and the islands are beautiful. It was so peaceful and calming to sit at the table or on any of the many comfortable sofas watching the constantly changing light over the sea and islands. The kitchen had everything we could possibly need and we appreciated the welcome wine, biscuits, bread and flowers when we arrived. The information file of activities, walks, restaurants etc in the area was very helpful and Carol responded very quickly to any enquiries we had. We enjoyed many walks around the canal, hills and harbours. We played a lot of games sitting at the table overlooking the sea and will remember the happy times we had in your beautiful house. Thank you so much.

What a view
The oak beamed house is huge with lots of space and great facilities. The view is inspiring with spectacular sun sets every evening looking west towards Jura. The house was well presented and clean with a relaxed family feel so a joy from start to finish. Communication and instructions at the house were quick and clear. Worth finding on Google maps to make last few minutes easy as properly is quite secluded, which is what makes it such a gem. The pictures on site can’t do justice to the actual view if you book. Exceptional property
It’s is hard to express how exceptional Dalmore is. It’s the kind of property you design and live in, in your dreams. The view is breathtaking, rain or shine, and is always changing. The house was brilliantly equipped and we wanted for nothing. Carol made us feel welcome and was available to contact if we needed anything else. We used the information file on a daily basis for ideas and recommendations. Crinan is in a stunning area with beautiful walks from the door. The area has a rich history which is readily explorable. We didn’t manage to go on a boat trip so will have to come back!

Amazing place
The photos of the property do not do it justice. It was incredible. We actually used Carols house for our mini elopement ceremony which with the view and the crazy weather definitely worked in our favor. Carol went above and beyond in terms of ensuring we were well taken care of. She even had extra wine glasses sent to the house! We absolutely loved this place and I am so thankful we were able to enjoy it with friends. Thank you so so much for an incredible stay. The surrounding area is walkable to a cute cafe, small art gallery, seafood bar and excellent fine dining restaurant. We purchased a print from Ross Ryan and enjoyed the cafe treats both on the canal and back at our home stay. Really hope we can one day go back. Thanks again Carol Xx

Great holiday home
We picked this holiday home after viewing several on the VRBO website. Process of booking was very straightforward and once we were accepted, were put in touch with Carol our hostess. Immediately we were given all the information about the house and surrounding area that we needed before travelling. The house is in an area where, without detailed directions, would be quite difficult to find (Satnav was not accurate enough). Carol sent excellent directions and we got there with no problems. When we arrived entry was very straightforward. The house is stunning and is also in a stunning location overlooking Crinan harbour and the sea. We felt that we had been made very welcome on arrival and once we had settled in we received a call from Carol to make sure everything was OK. It certainly was. This is one of the best holiday homes we have stayed in. Lots of room, very well equipped, large kitchen, very well equipped and great when producing family meals. House was very clean. Lots to entertain us :- books, games music and when the weather was not great this was the perfect house to stay in - never bored. The only downside to the holiday was that one week was not long enough. You never know - we could be back.

Stunning Property
Let me start with, I don't normally leave reviews. Carol's property demands one. First, the pictures of the view online do not do this house justice, it literally took my breath away. Possibly the most vast wide spanning views of a gorgous inlet and harbour I've ever seen. Second, the house is beautifully built, akin to an old church with exposed large wooden beams and floor to ceiling glass windows that pour light into the home, including from the moon and stars at night. Additionally, it is only a 7 minute walk to the Crinan Hotel, which has good food and a great cafe to grab scone in the morning (check for the time it opens). Third, and possibly most important, Carol is a wonderful host. I am over burdensome, I ask too many questions, request too many things. She answered every annoying question very quickly, in great detail, with maps and pictures included. This was very helpful as my family and I were coming from California. I can not overstress how important Carol was in making our stay a memory of a lifetime. In sum, unique house, unmatched views, wonderful host. Thank you!

Fantastic property with spectacular sea views!
Over the years we've been fortunate enough to have stayed in many great holiday homes, however this one really had the wow factor and is definitely amongst our favourites. The house is situated in an elevated position overlooking Crinan harbour and has spectacular sea views from the majority of rooms. The upside down layout and large glass windows take full advantage of its location and you will struggle to find better sea views than this anywhere in the country. First impressions when you walk in are simply WOW! The house itself is a good size and has a very practical layout. In addition to the wood framing there was lots of quirky woodwork making up the decoration which I thought was great. The house was also well provisioned with everything you could need including a well equipped kitchen with plenty of crockery, basic groceries, laundry facilities, books, games, dvds, wii games console, satellite TV and so much more. The large log burner is a great central feature to take the chill off on cooler evenings and it was nice to see a generous supply of firewood. For anyone interested in wildlife there's plenty to see in the area. We saw a family group of 3 otter from the house on our first evening and took a wildlife tour around some of the islands which gave good views of a variety of sea birds, seals and 3 sea eagles! We also saw plenty of red deer, a weasel and tawny owl locally. In summary a superb five star property with spectacular sea views that I would highly recommend. We will be adding to our favourites list and hoping to return again in the future.

An idyllic week at Dalmore Cottage.
Dalmore Cottage lives up to the official description. Furnished to a good standard and well presented, it is an ideal location for an activity holiday. Full instructions for finding the location were sent by the owners who we found extremely welcoming and helpful. The welcome pack was….well welcoming! Ample firewood was provided for the fire, but thankfully we had great weather. The view to the west from the elevated site is magnificent and some of the sunsets are breath-taking. The cottage is well placed as a base for a variety of activities and visits. The Crinan Canal merits a walk or bike ride and there are plenty of forest walks and a very pleasant beach at Crinan Ferry is well worth a lazy afternoon. We also cycled to Kilmartin to visit the interesting museum and were impressed by the many pre-historic burial cairns in the area. The flat terrain is ideal for cyclists who are a bit short of training! What else? Oh yes, well within motoring range is Inverary which boasts among other things a very interesting old prison with loads of information. And if serious hillwalking is your thing, then a ferry ride from Oban to Mull will give you the opportunity to add Ben More to your list of "Munros"! We made limited use of restaurants but had a good bar meal in the hotel at Crinan. There is a well-stocked Co-op in nearby Lochgilphead which is open daily until late. The owners have clearly thought about what their guests might want and the cottage is well equipped with a variety of games, books and DVDs for all ages. The wireless internet connection is very efficient and the property benefits from Freeview so the kids were happy! The interior was clean with high quality bedding. The kitchen was fully equipped with all useful gadgets and the care taken by the owners was evidenced by the provision of clingfilm, tin foil, dish-washer tablets, etc. Unlike in some rental places where you get the bare minimum of cutlery and crockery, Dalmore Cottage is equipped with sufficient items so that you don’t need to be washing up (or putting on the dish-washer) after every meal! The owners are friendly and welcoming and having kids of their own, understand the needs of families with kids. So to conclude-a well equipped, clean & exceptionally well sited holiday rental in a beautiful part of western Scotland. I have no hesitation is recommending the cottage for a relaxing break in quiet surroundings and would even consider returning in the not-too-distant future.

Wow, what a view! We have had many holidays in Scotland but this property has the best coastal views we have seen with some spectacular sunsets. Most of the time we spent at the property we were out on the terrace enjoying the vista. The one morning that we had breakfast in the kitchen we were treated to two wild deer grazing in the garden! The property is located at the end of a access only road, benefits from no passing traffic and is therefore very quiet. We received a warm welcome on our arrival and the accommodation was clean, tidy and comfortable. The property is within walking distance of the Crinan canal and village and there are plenty of interesting things to see and do within the local area. Enjoy the views!
