The Location
Appledore is a lovely fishing village with great pubs, cafes, restaurants and live music widely available for free (in the pubs).
Appledore is ideally situated between Cornwall and Exmoor.
Appledore and Instow are situated on the River Torridge
Appledore and Instow are likened to rock and padstow on a smaller scale. Appledore Quay does not have a beach, but Instow has a lovely dog-friendly sandy beach at high and low tide.
The Ferry runs daily between Appledore and Instow (dogs go free), crossing time only 10 minutes! The ferry runs depending on the tide times.
Appledore is on the Southwest Coast Path and Instow is located on the Tarka Trail! If you're up for an active holiday, the Tarka Trail is a great cycling path which is the longest continous off-road path in the UK with views ranging from natural countryside to sea cliffs and beaches! Walking or cycling! Just search for Tarka Trail to find more information
The Torridge Estuary is fast-moving with tidal currents which can be dangerous for inexperienced swimmers, paddleboarders, kayakers. The safest place to kayak, or paddleboard, would be from the life boat station in West Appledore over towards Northam Burrows. This is also a great safe place to swim!
Instow is safe for swimming kayaking and paddle boarding.
Westward Ho is ideal for surfing if that's the way you drift! There is also a seawater swimming pool available at mid and low tides at Westward Ho if you enjoy a more relaxing time.
