Excellent, well run site

The only issue was the lake, it has lots of potential but needs alot of TLC. Not yet really a fishing lake. Property, pools facilities excellent.

Fantastic for families

This accommodation is perfect for families. Colmer has everything you need to keep the kids happy - pools, games, fishing and more. Perfectly located for days at the beach or visiting inland - it was our 2nd visit to this location and probably won’t be out last.

Brilliant Break

Lovely cottage, in a secluded community. Parking directly in front of the property a real boon, and easy access to both indoor and outdoor pools. Beach around a 20-25 minute drive away. Dartmoor 10-15 minutes to the North. Would definitely stay again.

Great base from which to explore south Devon

We enjoyed the stay, it’s a great place from which to explore being central to a lot of beaches and towns in the south hams area. The cottage was ok though would say it’s a little bit shabby and needs a refresh but it’s perfectly fine . Myself being 6’3” struggled with the shower as it’s got compromised head room. The top half of the stairs didn’t have a handrail which made for a tricky time with our toddler getting up and down I his own. The cottage has everything needed other than a washing machine but there is one by the outdoor pool. There is a dishwasher which was good to see. There was Wi-Fi in the cottage but it was very intermittent and often didn’t seem to work but that’s wasn’t an issue for us but was an annoyance for our toddler as Netflix was often stuck loading. The indoor pool next to the cottage was nice and we used it a few times as well as the outdoor pool when the indoor pool was in use (currently a 30 minute slot booking system in place) but it was quite a bit colder than indoor so our little one didn’t like it and it was a bit grubby around the pool, particularly under the cave bit with the bbq that had been used but not cleaned. There were a few loose paving flags on the steps which almost caused a fall when I was carrying my child, narrowly avoiding a potentially nasty fall. Overall we enjoyed our stay and thought it was good value for the area but wouldn’t choose to stay again mainly because of the shower, it was awkward for me as mentioned and I like to shower often.

Lovely little cottage well located to explore beautiful South Devon

Lovely little cottage set amongst a few other holiday cottages within the grounds of Colmer Estate. The cottage has use of both an indoor and outdoor pool as well as nice grounds to explore. The property suited our family of three very well and our little toddler loved playing in the indoor pool. A very well stocked Spar is located within a very short walk as is a country pub called the California Inn. The Spar also has a great range of home meals in the “Cook” range. Even my partner who is a big foodie thought these were great. The cottage is well located to explore many sights of South Devon by car e.g. Kingsbridge, Totnes, Dartmouth, Salcombe, Burgh Island and many of the beautiful beaches in the area.

Cannot wait to stay again!

A very lovely estate with brilliant facilities! We found the accommodation to be just as described - homely and comfortable, but there was a lot of cobwebs around which is to be expected in a property of that age. We enjoyed both the indoor and outdoor pools and the peace of the fishing lake. We will most certainly be staying again!

The perfect country retreat

We had a lovely week at the Gamekeepers Hide. The place was really clean and tidy upon arrival and was ideal for our 15 month old. The cottage is charming and the grounds are beautiful. The swimming pools and play area are lovely, and the location is ideal for exploring the villages, countryside and beaches of south Devon. We had a fantastic stay and would definitely consider returning in future.

Lovely UK holiday

We had a lovely time at gamekeepers hide. Really well presented, clean and tidy and has everything you need. The estate is beautiful. Both pools were warm, clean and tidy and never busy. The owner could not have been more helpful in the lead up to the trip, with up dates and suggestions. All of them spot on. Would definitely come here again.

Lovely week break away

Really lovely cottage on a quite estate. A wonderful place to stay with children, as they can go and explore in the safety of the grounds. The two pools were brilliant and the children loved the indoor pool, games room and tennis court. It was never overcrowded and everyone staying on the estate were friendly. You are close to a lot of places, so the location is great. The cottage was clean and fresh and a great place to stay for the week. It was so peaceful. Thank you so much for a wonderful week.

A bright and comfortable cottage in a great location for all that the Colmer Estate offers.

Welcoming and well equipped cottage with a spacious living area, broadband, smart TV and a selection of holiday reading for downtime, as well as a boules set and some table tennis bats which were provided in the cottage. Bedrooms and bathroom are compact, but not a problem, and fine for 2 adults and 2 kids. Located within easy walking distance to the local pub, which serves good food, and the excellent Spar shop at the garage for the essentials and homemade ready meals from ‘Cook’. The Colmer Estate and its facilities keeps kids safely occupied for hours and lets parents find space to relax. The pools, tennis court, games room and grounds are all beautifully maintained and of high quality. Glorious beaches and seaside Devon villages within 15-20 mins drive. A wonderful place for a week’s holiday and will certainly be returning!

A lovely wee cottage on a well kept country estate within driving distance of beaches and towns.

Gamekeeper's Cottage is set within a lovely estate. The cottage is small but carefully furnished and equipped for most eventualities. The owner's are a delight and were very informatve re places to visit and supplied lots of useful tips to make our stay even more enjoyable. You will need a car although there is a supermarket less than 10 mins walk that sells most things required for a week's stay. There is a decent pub opposite the garage/shop serving food and a good beer selection. We ambled there for a few nights! Salcombe,Dartmouth and great coves and beaches are within 30 mins drive or less. There is also South Devon Chilli Farm just up the road which is a must visit even if you don't like chillis! The cottage is really for a couple or maybe one young child. There is tennis, an indoor and outdoor pool, all well kept, and lovely short walks through the estate. If you want peace then don't go during school break although to be fair all the children were well behaved and it is definately not a rowdy place. We miss it!

Peaceful, stylish and relaxing

This was our second visit to Gamekeepers Hide. We loved it the first time and now there has been a classy refurbishment and it's lovelier than ever. The decor is light and bright, new furniture and a smart TV so that we could wander back from the pub then catch up with our favourite programmes. As before, we made a couple of visits to charming Kingsbridge and iconic Burgh Island plus a few rambles around the lake, grounds and surrounding countryside. Had a splash in both pools too. We will certainly be back and will probably do the same super-relaxing stuff.

A lovely little cottage with great facilities and fabulous surroundings.

Gamekeeper's Hide and the shared facilities are wonderful. Our children loved swimming every day and we enjoyed a fun family tennis session. The weather was pretty kind to us overall. One day was extremely wet but the pool and a pub lunch in Kingsbridge kept us all happy followed by some relaxing time at the cottage. We met up with friends who live in Stoke Gabriel on 3 of the days - one day at their house, one at Goodrington Sands and park and the other at Woodlands Theme Park. Both day trips out were fabulous. Woodlands was only £7.50 admission each which felt like a real bargain as so many similar places cost double that! We also visited Bantham Beach and Bigbury-on-Sea which we loved too. We only discovered the little shop at the garage on the last day but they had some wonderful food options. We had a really fabulous time and would love to visit again soon.

such a beautiful cottage in the most perfect location just an amazing relaxing family holiday

We have stayed before in Gamekeepers hide when we arrived this time the whole of down stairs had been changed new flooring sofa and chairs so modern very clean welcoming. We also were lucky with the weather sun shine every day just a little windy on the beaches. Our little boy swam in the indoor pool every single day the pool is just feet away from the cottage also its very warm all yr round. The cottage has everything you could wish for nice furnishings comfy chairs and beds. The patio has a patio enclosed so safe for little ones its south facing so receives sun light from early morning it was lovely sitting out their on two occasions having our breakfast. The estate is huge with natural woods and gardens tennis courts by husband and son also enjoyed a little corse fishing. Kingsbridge is a good town for walking its also the start of the estaury and does have organic and farmers markets twice a week. We love it as its also only about 15 min drive from Burgh Island and our favourite beach Bantham. Salcombe and Dartmouth or inland a little to Dartmoor. We will be back again just after Easter. It is a very peaceful quiet estate but only about 10 min walk from a few shops organic stalls and a wonderful inn The California Inn such a short walk well worth visiting The Pead Family

Gamekeepers hide set within huge grounds the cottage was perfect

We had a wonderful holiday with our children the cottage was everything and more than we could have wished for parking right in front to the cottage. The cottage was lovely we were even provided with a welcome pack and wine and little treats for the children. The cottage itself is very well presented with its own patio which even had a bbq and sun loungers good for us because it also had a picket gate we needed that with little ones. We had everything we needed and more at the cottage. Even a map of the grounds which are truly stunning their are over 28 acres of grounds and gardens which you can walk all around. A well stocked fishing lake two gardens one is known as the Victorian garden this garden had adventure area for our children and a huge green area for ball games and a log cabin. Both our children spent hours in both heated pools the indoor pool is very warm and oh yes their is also a gym above it. outdoor pool that is huge and also heated both pools are just fee away from the cottage. We played or had a knock about on the tennis courts which have just been re-laid. The grounds are just breath taking. The cottage is so close to blue flag beach a must to visit is Burgh Island only about 15 min drive. We loved kingsbridge and the quay and marina and pontoon was so nice to go their in the evenings the week we were their it was the Kingsbridge music festival two great days we loved it. We went to Salcombe anyone coming to the South Hams has to go to Salcombe it is just so beautiful. Their is so much to do a week was not enough we will be back now we have found this little gem of a cottage and location the owners left us a map of the grounds so useful as you can walk all around (take your wellies or walking shoes) This cottage was just perfect the estate is truly beautiful with two heated pools its also a very quiet and peaceful estate its location is perfect only a very short drive from sandy beaches and coastal towns. We have already booked for Oct half term as now we have found this cottage and location it would be so hard to find anything else so perfect for our family holiday a bit of advice we now know why it is so sort after many thanks to the housekeeper and estate manager they were so helpful nothing was too much trouble The Kempshalls from Somerset
