About this property

Middlerigg - a family friendly that sleeps 6 guests in 3 bedrooms

Middlerigg perches above the harbour on the aptly named Haven Hill. With its strong stone walls and elevated position, it's removed enough to observe the activity below but close enough to feel part of it all. It is both homely and elegant—a palette of slate and oak, dressed with Welsh woollen blankets and warmed by a woodburning stove—ready for friends and family to gather. The glazed archway in the well-equipped open-plan kitchen-diner looks out to the immensity of the North Sea and a spellbinding coastline stiff with magic. The dramatic ruins of 14th-century Dunstanburgh Castle loom to the north. The mezzanine floor adds to the airy ambience but also, usefully, provides an additional upstairs lounge area. The main lounge, downstairs, with its woodburning stove, Smart TV, wifi, and Sonos speakers, provides the perfect space for a cosy evening in with loved ones. There's also a handy utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer.

Upstairs there are three roomy bedrooms, all with luxurious super king-size beds and one with useful zip and link system that converts it into two twin beds. A combination of Egyptian cotton, hypo-allergenic duvets and Melin Tregwynt woollen blankets will spoil you for anywhere else. Every bedroom has an ensuite shower room with toasty underfloor heating.

There's air source central heating throughout Middlerigg; the perfect foil for any chilled winds brought in by the North Sea.

If you're not a weather watcher already, you will inevitably become one while at Middlerigg. Watch as the seascape constantly repaints itself. When the sun shines, the glazed archway doors of the kitchen-diner lead to a patio seating area, where you can sit and watch not only the weather but turnstones pick through the bladderwrack and linnets, cormorants and eider ducks going about their respective business. Don't be surprised if the enticing aroma of oak-smoked kippers wafts from the nearby L Robson & Sons - home of the legendary Craster Kippers. Not to be missed. On your doorstep is the wonderfully take-me-as-you-find-me Jolly Fisherman. A simple pub serving well-priced crab sandwiches that are perfect washed down with a pint of Black Sheep ale. There's even off-road parking for up to two cars—a real coup for the intimate streets of this small village.
This retreat by the sea awaits you and your family this summer.

Middlerigg Excellent

In all aspects Middlerigg was brilliant .Location was superb. Condition, cleanliness and comfort around the property was excellent. The Welcome pack was lovely and much appreciated and little touches like hand wash at all the sinks, adequate dishwasher tablets, binbags etc were again appreciated. Separate handtowels in all bathrooms and generous amounts of toilet roll were also a great addition.. The staff were very helpful and we got a call to inform us that the cottage was ready a few hours before check in which was really helpful.

Stunning Views/Great Location

The House is in a perfect location in the heart of the Village, with a short walk to the Pub and the Smokery. Plenty of space and well laid out. We did find the Sitting Room a little cool, however I believe that is because Log Burner would normally be used, however we did not use it. Travelling with older people, a hand rail to the front door would have helped, and the seating in the Sitting Room was quite low - but we managed and had an excellent week and will return. The glass ceiling in the 2nd Sitting Room could do with a clean - I understand the location and weather will not help, however I would have said it has been a while since it was done - do not be put off - Thanks Catch the Breeze Retreats!

Loveliest house in Craster

Just back from our third stay at Middlerigg - in our opinion the loveliest house in Craster. The decor is comfortable and tasteful and the bathrooms are modern and spotlessly clean. We didn’t really use the kitchen as dining out in the area is fabulous, however it is spacious and extremely well equipped. The mezzanine room has the best view in the house although the views from all windows are stunning. Would recommend this house to anyone looking for a luxurious home from home in a stunning location

Another wonderful stay at a fantastic property from Catch the Breeze (Middlerigg). Facilities and location are perfect. We are already planning our next visit to the area. The team were helpful from the booking of the cottage right up until the day we left.

Perfect Holiday Destination

What can I say about Middlerigg that will do it justice? The house is beautiful, positioned perfectly overlooking the harbour with a patio to sit on and watch the activities or just look at the scenery. Inside it has everything you could need and is homely and inviting, we arrived and felt settled immediately we unpacked. It is in a really pretty village on the beautiful Northumberland coast so you can enjoy the wildlife, views and the weather, we even saw dolphins. The staff at Catch the Breeze are great, friendly, helpful and couldn't do enough for us. The standards in the property are carried into all they do, excellent. Will definitely try to go back as soon as we can.

Another magical stay at Middlerigg

Well we keep coming back. Is it the view up the coast to Dunstanburgh Castle, the walk to the Ship Inn at Low Newton, dinner at the Jolly Fisherman, the oak smoke from Robson's, the beach at Beadnell Bay or the impeccable decor, layout, and aspect of the house itself? Well, it's probably all these things and more. So we'll be back again.

Wonderful holiday home, in the most perfect of locations.

We love Middlerigg! Our second stay here and it gets better. It's location overlooking Craster harbour is unrivalled. A group of 5 including 2 children, the house itself is spacious amd finished to a very high standard. Every room has sea views with the stunning backdrop of Dunstanburgh Castle. The large kitchen diner is a particular highlight! We benefitted from lovely weather so could regularly sit on the patio area to eat or simply watch the world pass by and wait in anticipation for the potential of spotting dolphins! Craster is the perfect spot to explore Northumberland, and with great food and drink available at the Jolly Fisherman a mere 2 minutes away Middlerigg is the best located property in the village!

A fantastic stay in a wonderful location.

An incredibly clean and well maintained holiday property with fantastic views across the harbour over to Dunstanburgh Castle. The view always gave us something to look at from the clouds formations over the castle to the boats entering and leaving the harbour. The house has plenty of defined spaces to enjoy, with a separate lounge plus the mezzanine floor over the kitchen which provided a lovely bright space for reading. The location right by the England coastal path provided great opportunities for walking both north to the castle and Embleton, and south where we discovered a secluded beach. There is no shortage of beaches or castles to visit within a short drive and we made good use of the 'things to do' guide included in the property, which provided excellent recommendations on places to eat as well as beaches. The only negative point is the parking which was pretty tight for two family sized cars. Other than that, a wonderful stay.

Fantastic location and beautiful holiday home.

Beautiful holiday home with lots of attention to detail with interior design and furnishings. Location is perfect on good days to explore the amazing Northumbrian coast line or just sit in the den and watch the sea on bad weather days. Some aspects of cleanliness disappointing.

Just perfect

In over 40 years of self catering holidays I have never stayed in a better property than this. Fixtures and fittings are of the highest quality and so much thought has gone into providing anything you might possibly need for your holiday. The location, overlooking the harbour, is the best in the village. Recommended unreservedly. One cautionary note - parking two cars in the available space is a challenge.

Beautiful Craster

Our stay at Middlerigg exceeded expectation. What a beautiful property with exceptional views across to Dunstanburgh Castle. Such a great place to base yourself for exploring the area. The property was cosy, comfortable and finished to an high standard. We couldn’t be happier watching daily life in the harbour and the waves crashing against the rocks. We loved it so much we have booked to come back next year.

Wonderful place to stay

Cottage is stunning - even better than the website photos. Well designed and decorated and fitted out to high specification. Would definitely come back. We’ve stayed in some lovely places home and abroad but this is probably the best we’ve had - especially with that view and outside terrace.

Beautiful cottage. Shame about the cleaning

Lovely cottage perfect in every way , let down by the cleanliness , kitchen floor full of bits and food stuck to it , patio door never been cleaned for weeks , and to top it all last weeks visitors had left used tin foil in the grill pan
