About the host
Hosted by Elaine Morrell

I live and work in Bath. I am so lucky to live in two of the most beautiful places I can think of. I have always liked architecture and seem to have the ability to see the potential of properties not for what they are but for what they might become. Over the years I been able to bring old buildings back to life. It gives me great joy to live in them and to be able to share them with others.
Why they chose this property
Almost 20 years ago I bought the house to be near close friends who had moved into the locality. When I first saw the house it was in very poor condition with few of the features you see today. There was no suspicion of beams, the house had not been decorated for years, there was one big bathroom bathroom and the Salon had been used as a garage. It was the only house in France I looked at. I thought 'I could do something with this'. It also seemed very small from the outside. I was told it was like a Tardis, small on the outside and large on the inside, and they were right. I have decorated, taken down ceilings and had builders in to do work. It has taken a great deal of vision for what you see today.
What makes this property unique
You have the unique experience of staying in a centuries old house. Possibly it was 2 houses with 1 room down and 1 up. You can read the history of the place. The sink set into the walls. Originally, this would be a slab with a hole in the wall for water out to run into the street. Then you can see the square beams in ceiling where the staircase probably was. The enormous fireplace speaks for itself. The stairs are reached via what could be an external door, and feel the different levels at the top. You can see how the upstairs rooms have been divided. Both have a fireplace including the breathtaking stone one. On window in the twin room has tiny panes with a wooden baton to open it, like the one above the sink. Simple and effective. Then in the single room there is the Ox-eye window. Enjoy All this history with all modern conveniences of a well designed kitchen, a stylish salon and delightful bedrooms.
