Lovely cottage in Alston

This is a cosy little cottage with is well decorated and equipped. It was even nicer than the pictures. A short walk from the picturesque town of Alston. We had a lovely stay over new year, the welcome bottle of Bucks Fizz was a lovely edition. I would highly recommend

About the host

Host profile image
We bought the property in 2015 and have extensively renovated the whole building to make it comfortable and cosy with a focus on a practical, guest friendly appeal.

We enjoy walking, golf and regular gym visits. As guests of the Coach House you can enjoy unlimited golf at Alston Moor Golf Club and 24/7 access to Alston Moor Fitness.

Why they chose this property

Are we in the middle of nowhere or the centre of everywhere?

The Lake District, Hadrian’s Wall, Newcastle, Durham, the Scottish Borders, the North Yorkshire Dales are all within an hours drive.

Our property is in the designated "Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty". The North Pennines have so much to offer in terms of fresh air, dark skies and open countryside. Alston is the highest market town in England and is rich in history from the Roman settlement at Epiacum to the lead mines of Nenthead, Carrshield and Killhope. Within a few minutes walk of the Coach House we have the South Tynedale Railway which is a narrow gauge rail line that runs from Alston to Slaggyford on which a variety of classic engines and carriages run.

One of our main loves of the area is the helpful and friendly character of our small community which welcomes and embraces "resident incomers" and holiday visitors alike.

We can enjoy the natural beauty of the North Pennines without the busy, bustling nature (and inflated costs) of our neighbour - "the Lake District". Incidentally Bowness on Windermere can be accessed within 40-45 minutes.

What makes this property unique

The Coach House was renovated with adaptibility in mind.

The kitchen/dining area has been fitted with the highest quality units and appliances that offer everything a keen, self catering guest would wish for.
The ground floor has a wet room designed with wheelchair accessibilty in mind. Similarly the sofa bed in the lounge means that guests with any degree of mobility difficulties need not climb stairs to reach their bed.

On the upper floor we have two good sized bedrooms that provide high quality, comfortable beds and plenty of storage/hanging space. One bedroom can be configured as a "Super King Size" double or twin bedded room and the other as a "King Size" double or twin bedded room.

The two upper bedrooms share a "Jack & Jill" ensuite bathroom with a toilet, large bath and separate walk in shower.

Coach House guests have access to and use of the large garden of Lowbyer Manor which has ample garden furniture and a BBQ built during lockdown from Alston Stone.

We believe that the high specification of the Coach House ranks our property as one of the best in the area.
