Are we in the middle of nowhere or the centre of everywhere?
The Lake District, Hadrian’s Wall, Newcastle, Durham, the Scottish Borders, the North Yorkshire Dales are all within an hours drive.
Our property is in the designated "Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty". The North Pennines have so much to offer in terms of fresh air, dark skies and open countryside. Alston is the highest market town in England and is rich in history from the Roman settlement at Epiacum to the lead mines of Nenthead, Carrshield and Killhope. Within a few minutes walk of the Coach House we have the South Tynedale Railway which is a narrow gauge rail line that runs from Alston to Slaggyford on which a variety of classic engines and carriages run.
One of our main loves of the area is the helpful and friendly character of our small community which welcomes and embraces "resident incomers" and holiday visitors alike.
We can enjoy the natural beauty of the North Pennines without the busy, bustling nature (and inflated costs) of our neighbour - "the Lake District". Incidentally Bowness on Windermere can be accessed within 40-45 minutes.
