About this property

Charming provençal house with private plunge pool and garden near to Grasse

Our house is situated in the village of Le Bar sur Loup which is 10 km from Grasse, the world capital of Perfumerie. The cottage was built at the turn of the century for the agricultural workers who picked the orange blossoms, violets
and olives for the Perfume industry in Grasse. Today not much has changed and the present owners still harvest the oranges and olives ! The cottage is therefore perfect for those looking for a quiet getaway. Our one bedroom house has a
queen size bed (160 cm x 200 cm). The shower room is in Italian stone and has a walk in shower. There is an open space living area with sofa bed and a kitchen diner with a dishwasher, gas hob, combo-microwave oven and
fridge. There is a TV and Free WiFi. Outside there is a terrace with an eating area under a covered vine (perfect for picking your own grapes in season!) and a sunbed lounging area. The terrace is enclosed and completely private. From the terrace, you have direct access to the small pool (1m deep and 3.30 m x 2.50) which is a converted water tank from the 1930's. Perfect for relaxing after a day of siteseeing. Cottage guests have sole use of the pool and garden.
COVID 19 - We fully clean with high temperature steam cleaner and sanitize the work surfaces, door knobs and switches between rentals.

New improvements for 2022 ! We have a re-roofed and insulated the cottage for maximum comfort. We have also totally re-landscaped our garden to make a sunbathing area with teak sunloungers next to the pool. The area is fully private for guests use only. Check out the new photos !

Beautiful site with stunning view of the valley

Spent 6 nights in this charming provencal site in Le-Bar-Sur-Loup. Very charming and comfortable especially after a day of visiting the sights in the region. We enjoyed our visit to this part of Provence. Gilbert and Kate welcomed us and made sure we were comfortable. Our stay was very comfortable. The location is ideally suited for visiting many of the sights in this region of Provence.

Le Bar-sur-Loup : Ideal for us

When planning our holiday we looked for a quiet place in the mountains with an expansive view and easy access for two +70 year-olds. We wanted a clean and compact cottage and expecting high temperatures, with air conditioning and a small pool. We also needed to easily be able to get to interesting ancient villages and scenic spots. Catherine & Gilbert's cottage ticked all the boxes and proved to be the perfect place for us. We can highly recommended the cottage for any other couple with similar vacation needs. Thank you Catherine for a wonderful stay.

What a gem!

Having now stayed at the Orangeraie we can see why so many people have given it such glowing comments- it is a lovely place to stay overlooking the Loup valley- breakfast at home won't be the same again compared with sitting on the terrace at the Orangeraie under the grape vines and next to the many orange trees. The property has everything you need and is well looked after plus on a really hot day there is a dipping pool to cool you down. Our hosts Catharine and Gilbert made us and our dog George feel so welcome and nothing was ever too much trouble for them- a lovely couple. Le Bar sur Loup is a medieval town with lots of winding streets and extensive views across the valley plus friendly people and several nice places to eat including Le Donjon restaurant where you will receive a warm welcome from Christine and Thomas and is a must to eat at. If you are a dog walker then do try the lovely walks up into the hills or down by the river. Most importantly is the Orangeraie's location -it is an idea place to stay to travel to other parts of the region such as Monaco, Nice, Antibes or Cannes or to go to the many wonderful villages such as Tourrettes sur Loup which is famous for its violets or Valbonne where as a bonus we found a vet, Dr Vincent Charles who, besides being very helpful and friendly, was also the most reasonably priced for the compulsory dog treatment before returning to the UK. Last but by no means least is our visit to The Verdon Gorges where we drove around the Grand Canyon of Verdon the 2nd largest canyon in the world! It is an absolutely amazing place and the highlight of our holiday.

Erholsame Tage in herrlicher Umgebung

Fantastic gite, in a fantastic place, with fantastic hosts

The property was everything that we expected and more. The hosts Cathy and Gilbert were wonderful and couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful. We we’re both taken I’ll during our stay and I needed to see a doctor. Cathy sprung into action and got me an appointment at the local GP, who saw me between patients (wouldn’t happen in the UK!). She translated when I was struggling to explain to the doctor and helped picking up my medication. We wouldn’t have been able to communicate otherwise. The gite itself was everything we could have wished for. The patio area overlooking olive and orange trees towards the hills was a pleasure. Sitting having breakfast or a G&T looking across the valley with the smell of the jasmine will be something we won’t forget for a long time. The plunge pool was a huge bonus, with the temperatures in the high 30’s it was a great place to cool off. By the pool was a great area for sunbathing, which has recently been relandscaped, a real sun trap. There are plenty of local villages to visit nearby, Saint Paul de Vence was our favourite. We drove to Lake Cassien and spent the morning paddling around the most beautiful lake. We would highly recommend this property and will be sure to return soon.

A FUIR

A FUIR

Check-in und Check-out verliefen reibungslos. Merci beaucoup Cathy und Gilbert

Heerlijke uitvalbasis in prachtomgeving

Cathy and Gilbert we had a great holiday, you're fantastic hosts. We definitely recommend this cottage

Wonderful gite in a lovely interesting part of the country and delightful host

We are a retired Australian couple who thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay at the Orangeraie. It was a perfect gite for us in a quiet country location but central to the surrounding area where there was so much to see. It is a well appointed gite which was clean and comfortable. We enjoyed eating breakfast on the table out the front looking over the extensive valley. It is the type of gite, with very hospitable owners living next door, where we would hope to return again some day.

Good accommodation but, sadly, the bedroom was damp

The accommodation is a short drive up the mountain above the charming village of Le Bar-sur-Loup. Our hosts were very welcoming and there was a lot to like about both accommodation and location. The main downside and the reason for only giving 3 stars is that the bedroom was very damp, with moisture appearing on the recently tiled floor, making everything feel damp. Thankfully, the living room didn't suffer as much. All in all, if you like to be outdoors, there's a lot to do in the area. Cannes, Nice and Monaco are within relatively easy reach, although traffic can be slow, and we enjoyed days out at each. Gourdon is also well worth the climb if you're feeling energetic.

Perfect Getaway

A little gem.....if you want to see the French Riviera but love the rural lifestyle then this is the place to stay. The village of Le Bar Sur Loup is lovely with 4 or 5 restaurants to choose from each eve & a couple of boulangeries. It is possibly to get to Nice & Monaco by bus for really cheap prices 1.5 Euro fixed fares for each journey, & there are also loads of gorgeous hilltop villages in the Loup itself....Vence, St Paul Du Vence, & Gourdon. The gite itself is great & although small, has everything you need. I would recommend taking a pair of cheap new flip flops or slippers to wear indoors as it’s quite difficult to stop tracking in dirt from outside as not fully paved everywhere, & you feel the need to constantly brush your feet off indoors otherwise!😂....but it wasn’t a big problem. Catherine & Gilbert are really the perfect “hosts” as they are really lovely friendly people & help with anything at all that you need, but keep completely out of your way otherwise so you really do feel that you are renting your very own space. The plunge pool was a godsend & was gratefully used to cool off on several occasions.

Lovely cottage in a beautiful location

The cottage looks out onto an olive grove where we enjoyed many evenings sat on the terrace drinking a glass of wine. The cottage itself is nicely decorated with a well equipped kitchen and relaxing living area with a great collection of books to read. Catherine and Gilbert made us very welcome providing help and information on the local area ready to answer any questions. The village of Bar Sur Loup is charming and has wonderful views out towards Pont de Loup. We enjoyed dinner on our first evening in the village at Ecole de Fils – a fantastic restaurant well worth a visit and a 10 minute walk from the cottage. We were able to hire bikes and enjoyed seeing much of the local area. Try to visit Tourette Sur Loup approx. 14 km away and also Calle de Loup both beautiful villages. The village of Pont de Loup takes about 1 hour to walk from the cottage and there is a great little bar/brasserie by the bridge called ‘le Source’ where we felt very welcome and were treated to a couple of excellent lunches. Grasse is a short drive away and there are lots of villages to enjoy, cycle routes and local walks detailed in an information pack at the cottage. From Bar Sur Loup we drove our hire car back to Niece Airport then enjoyed a night in Niece only 40 minutes approx. from Bar Sur Loup. A fantastic holiday and would very much recommend staying at this lovely cottage in a stunning location which also affords great privacy.

Beutiful house with provencal ambience. Totally comfy and relaxing.

Finding the house with google-maps was no problem at all. The directions the owners had sent us were also pretty accurate. Upon arrival we were greeted by them waving hands. The two of them have always been really very friendly and courteous. A parking space is directly in front of the house. The house exceeded our expectations. It has such a beautiful atmosphere. As described we could pick grapes on the patio and the fragrance of lavender contributed to the provencal ambiance. We loved ending our days with a comfy dinner on the patio. The scenery and view were conducive to our relaxation. On the inside the house is cozy and nicely done up. Big enough for a couple. The kitchen facilities were totally satisfying. The house was clean and tidy. There is an AC but we did not need it as the lovely shutters sufficed to keep the house cool during the days. The bed is comfortable and the rain shower is wonderful. The dipping pool is great for a short cooling off and the sunbeds appeal to chill out. After a few days we got visited by a kind cat, with whom we befriended. Being greeted by a friendly meow in the mornings warmed our hearts. Although we could not go hiking in the forests during the first days due to the risk of forest fires, we found plenty of alternative activities. The owners have been very helpful about this matter. We can recommend the beaches in Cannes („Plage de la Bocca“) and Antibes („Port Vauban“). On top of that the region has a lot of beautiful cities. We visited Nice, Antibes, Cannes, Grasse and Monaco. A highlight was our trip to the Grand Canyon of Verdon („Gorges du Verdon“). Even though the journey by car takes a little longer, the drive goes through the exciting Alpes and in the end the astonishing Canyon is totally worth it. We rented a boat at the „Lac de Sainte-Croix“ and went up the river Verdon. Furthermore we visited the village „Moustier-Sainte-Marie“, one of „France’s most beautiful villages“. All in all we really enjoyed our 10 days and felt very comfortable. Thanks again to the two for your hospitality. We would love to visit again next year.

I am a local, born in Antibes and I love my region. I have been busy building our family home for the last few years which has been a challenging project ! We live among a large selection of orange and olive trees which require constant maintenance but is a very rewarding task. I enjoy making products from our harvests. This year I have made a special orange liqueur which was delicious.. I have also started experimenting with developing my own olive oil soap - all bio and no animal fats. My next project is to restore my ancient VW beetle .. but that's another story!

Why they chose this property

When we visited this property in May, the Orange trees were in blossom and the fragrance was fantastic that was the moment I knew this was going to be our new home!
