About this property
Old Shop Cottage a charming cottage in the picturesque beach village of Bantham.
Old Shop Cottage is a wonderfully charming and quirky cottage which sleeps up to 6 guests featuring 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, It is the perfect place for a family holiday or a romantic escape. Originally, this cottage was the bakery in the extremely picturesque coastal village of Bantham in the beautiful South Hams area of South Devon.
The cottage is located in the centre of the village which is perfect if you want to pop in to the friendly village shop, café, or pub ‘The Sloop,’ yet is also only a few minutes walk to the incredible soft sandy beach at Bantham which is famous for sailing and surfing.
Every room in this cottage is charming with little window seats and quirky angular walls. On the ground floor, there is a large open plan kitchen diner, which is extremely well equipped with everything you would need to cook an elaborate meal. There are plenty of pots and pans; dishwasher; large family fridge freezer; oven/hob; and microwave, kettle and toaster. The dining table comfortably seats 6. With cosy arm chairs too, the kitchen is the hub of the house.
There is a lovely cosy living room with log burner, TV (with hdmi connection if you wish to stream from your tablet) and 2 comfortable sofas. The living room patio doors lead to the sunny patio garden. It has very high gates/fences which makes it very secure for your dogs and children. With seating, this garden is perfect for a summer BBQ.
There is also a downstairs cloakroom with washing machine and tumble drier.
Upstairs, there is a master bedroom with a super-king bed. The master bedroom has plenty of wardrobe space and even has glimpses of the tidal Avon River. The second bedroom is a twin bedroom. The third bedroom is a superking or twin. There is a fully refurbished shower room with large walk in shower. There is a second bathroom with bath and shower attachment.
As this cottage is old, the stairs are steep, so we would not recommend this cottage to anyone who is mobility impaired. The cottage does not have its own dedicated parking but there is free on street parking available from October to April and the beach daily pay and display car park is a minutes walk away.
Bringing your dogs - we love to welcome dogs to Old Shop Cottage and happily accept 4 dogs. There are many beautiful walks from Old Shop Cottage, either inland or coastal. Dogs are allowed on the beach all year at Bantham (partial restrictions from May to September, but plenty of lovely soft sand at low tide). There are wonderful dog walks along the beautiful Avon river (so plenty of swimming opportunities!) and also along the magnificent Southwest coastal path towards Thurlestone.
